Khu-Amon
Character @ http://www.echoesofthemultiverse.com/vi ... 711#p59711
HP:2
Condition: Normal
Standing up to stretch his back,Berend finishes speaking(raising his voice so the other's in the Pub can hear him)
"better to make this official then...I'm Color Sergeant Berend Talnoth,Darrax Guard.I've been Authorized by the townships of Darrax and Iredell to gather a group of no more than 6 'Adventurer's'(myself added in) with the writ to 'Investigate and Contain' the Bandit's whut been making Nusences(?) o'themselves. If yer intrested in doin' a bit of Good fer the area and gettin' paid fer it in the bargain, i'll be here untill shortly 'afore Sunrise tomorrow..."
"Splendid! I knew you were someone of importance the moment I laid eyes on you." He lowers his head bending slightly at the waist in some sort of half-bow.

"You said pay...", the wizard blurts out before even completing his bow. "What kind of remuneration do you have in mind? "

"Oh...but where are my manners? I am indeed interested, if you would have me. The details of pay can be discussed later...but hopefully not too much later." The last sentence passes Khu-Amon's lips with a smirk.

Tal'endir, Favored Son of Corellon Larethian
Hero Points: 1 of 1
Conditions: None.

As Zezzak spoke, Tal'endir stood, and as she completed the introductions, he made a sleight movement of his hand, and a flouish revealing open palm followed by a slight bow. "I am Tal'endir of Isilme Duin, favored son of House Kerym, Warden-Aspirant of Ary'Vhelar, I thank and welcome you to share my table." His hand extended towards the empty seat as he himself gracefully lowered himself to his seat.

"You spoke of an ally, a companion, whose leg had been mauled by a feline." Without moving his head, his golden eyes scanned the room, "And as I do not observe someone matching that description I can only assume that he was injured outside of these fine walls?"

"I do not yet know him in person. He is Prestark the Mighty, a warrior of some reknown." Zezzaka motions to the dwarf who made the pronouncement of employment. "That dwarfman told me that Prestark lives in Darrax and trained some of the guard there until suffering a knee injury by tripping over a cat. This decreased his Perfection of Form sufficiently to warrant a different Path for the warrior. The dwarf is extorting me for my assistance while holding the exact whereabouts of Prestark hostage." Zezzaka says with no more emotion that speaking of the weather.

"If I am to fully add Prestark's knowledge to my definitive treatise on the kinesthetic and martial sciences his knee would need to be restored for demonstration purposes. Can you assist in this matter?" she asks.
"Something pithy this way comes."

*The camera pans the room as the members of the potential adventuring party begin to connect, then pulls out to the road outside the pub. In the darkness, a caravan of 5 wagons slowly makes it way past the pub and pulls up to what looks like a storage barn. The driver of the lead cart gets off the cart and goes inside to speak to someone who appears to be a caretaker.

Another ad for J-Mart crawls across the bottom of the screen…

The camera then cuts back to the doorway of Percilis’ Pub where we see the man entering. *

Percilis’ and the rest of his staff get food and drink refills out to the patrons in short order as the conversations continue. Those of you paying attention to the entrance see a tall, older man in winter traveler’s clothes enter the pub. He scans the room and looks you all up and down before moving over to the bar. He shakes hands with and exchanges pleasantries with Percilis. He appears to pay him for some services. He will chat with Percilis for a little bit, then the barkeep smiles, then looks over at and points to Berend’s direction.

They talk a little longer, and shortly thereafter another round of drinks is brought out for Berend, Tae-Phoon and Khu-Amon. Right after they arrive, the man comes over to where Berend, Khu-Amon, Ankara (who I assume came up to Berend when she offered her services, but I could be wrong) and Tae-Phoon are. He introduces himself as Jonas Wheelwright, then asks to sit and have a word with you.

GM Talk: I’m going to assume you say yes to him to avoid having to split the post. If anyone truly feels differently, I will be glad to change it later. Well, not “glad” but I will change it.

He takes a big swig of his own drink and says, “Hello, and well met folks. My name is Jonas Wheelwright, trader of some note in these parts. Percilis says you are adventurers, yes? If so, I have need of your services.”

He drinks some more. “I got 5 wagons full of grain, clothes and other assorted sundries that I need to get to Millford by the end of the week or my buyer backs out and I’m in f***ing a world of hurt. That gives me three days. If the f***ing weather wasn’t sh*t, I could make it in two, but with the roads the way they are, we’ll be pushing it to get there in three. I got some sh*t to get to Darrax after that, but I got time for that, it’s the Millford delivery I can’t f*ck up. I’ve heard about the bandits in the area and I got too f***ing much ridin’ on this shipment to get delayed by some f***ing thieves’ scams, or by getting f***ing robbed. I only got two guards right now and they’re good but I know they ain’t gonna be enough if the sh*t hits the fan.

And before you ask, I wasn’t f***ing dumb or f***ing cheap enough to only hire two guards for this trip. I had six guards when we left Coctoestenson but one f***er up and quit first day out because he missed his f***ing girl, sorry bastard. Then two took ill after all this goddamned travel in the f***ing rain so I had to leave them in Amberdale. And I got rid of another mother***er after he, well, let’s just say he was trying to take liberties with one of my other drivers that they didn’t appreciate. Seein’ as how the driver he’d was f***ing with is my kid, you can guess how much I didn’t f***ing appreciate it neither…

So here we are with two. Outside of the f***ing guards bailing out on us and the f***ing rain, the only goddamn luck we’ve had so far is that we haven’t run into any f***ing miscreants on the road and such, but I sure don’t trust my goddamn luck to hold much longer. So if you can provide an escort for my little caravan, I got 5 gold a piece for each of your crew as a down payment once you accept. And I’ll give you 5 more each when we get to Millford and make my sale and 5 more a piece if you see us to Darrax. We’d be headin’ out tomorrow at the ass crack o’ dawn if you’re in.

“So what say you?”

Tae-Phoon
HP:1 Chi:11/11
Condition: Stuffing his face.

Tae-Phoon breaks into a huge grin as the waitress brings out a table's worth of food and places it in front of him. He bows deeply, though it's unclear if it's aimed at the waitress or the food, and then falls upon it with a gusto that is almost awe-inspiring.

With how he's eating you wouldn't think it possible, but he was listening closely to Jonas and his request for help. He slurped down some stew and followed it with a huge pull of ale. He turns towards Jonas, waving a drumstick in hand, "I'm intrigued by the job, though I was about to accept the Master Talnoth's offer. It is fortuitous that they may very well be completed together. I'm in!" he enunciates this by finishing off the drumstick and belching loudly. "Barkeep, is there a possibility of seconds?"

BEREND TALNOTH
HP-2 Condition-Normal

Lighting himself another cigar,Berend replied to Wheelwright's request
"Look's like the God's are smilin' on ye today,as we'll readily accept yer Commission...."
Leaning a bit back(all of you immediately that his back is now to the wall when he does this),he continues speaking
"Don't be worrin' bout paying us though,as the Darrax and Iredell Guard have us already on pay to handle problems like yer's when they show.."

Ounce the foul-mouthed Jonas leaves,he reaches into his cloak and pull's out a small scroll case as well as Quill&Ink.Moving enough plates&mug's around,Talnoth takes out what look's like an official Scoll(anyone with any knowledge of Government Beuracracy will recognize that it's a Writ of Temporary Conscription) as he say's to you all
"All i need now is fer you lot ta puttin' yer Names or marks at the bottom o'the scroll and you'll be considered Temporary Darrax&Iredell Guard.Leastwise 'till the King's Patrol thing get's sort-out..."

Talnoth barely finishes before Khu-Amon raises his hand in a halt-gesture. "Um...Um...Mr. Talnoth this contract is for very general protection of the area as I see it. Protection that does not compel us to guard this specific caravan throughout its journey. His...that is Mr. Wheelwright's request is for a very specific task that obligates us more stringently. If all or some are to dedicate themselves to its protection, then...well...it is only fair that we...or they...be given extra compensation, no?" The aging wizard smiles as he shifts his eyes back and forth between the burly dwarf and merchant-leader.

A world full of business-savvy dwarves, and I get one that isn't...just my luck.

ANKARA

"Hm? TWO offers of adventure? Our cups run over!" Ankara says out loud. "While I enjoy the concept of ruffian-bashing, this man's gift for profanity rivals that of my people's filthiest mouths! Such vulgarity should be rewarded, also. Particularly his travails with an individual prone to sexual relations with his own kin- I am unaware of how the people of this region behave, but I assume matriarchal copulation is frowned upon?"

She continues "Playing bodyguard to food, clothing and whatever 'sundries' are does not sound exciting, but I'm told that such things often lead to random battles with Orcs, Griffins or perhaps even Demons, therefore, I shall take on this seemingly-simple endeavor!"

I did assume, however, that your rate plus Mr. Wheelwright's rate would be greater than your rate alone. Now I realize that you are indeed the authority here. I pray that you do not find me insolent in the whole matter. I'm merely looking after my...er...our best interest."

Just great! Nice slip of the tongue Khu-Amon. Just introduce yourself as Mr. Avarice from Sekhumnkhet next time.

Jonas shakes his head as the wizard and dwarf debate his offer. “Honorable men, how about that?” he said with a hoarse laugh. “Didn’t think there was many of us f***ers left.” Percilis rolled his eyes…

“Well, being an honorable man myself, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if one you takes a f***ing sword to the gut while helping us out for f***ing nothing, so I must insist you let me pay you if you’re going to take the job. Besides, sounds like you’ll have other f***ing fish to fry and I don’t wanna get a reputation as a f***ing cheapskate when it comes to hiring replacements for you whenever you all take off. You can throw the f***ing gold in the goddamn Almora River for all I f***ing care, but if you’re taking the job, I’m giving it to you, period.”

He knocks back the rest of his drink. “Now that we’ve got that settled, I’m gonna have another f***ing round and a meal with my crew before we hit the hay. Percy! The usual for me and my drivers and make a care basket for Jarki, it’s his turn to stay with the wagons. Oh, and before I forget, get the big bear guy some more food! On me!”

“Yes, your lordship,” Percilis replies with a mocking bow. “THEONIE! SIX WHEELWRIGHT DINNERS, ONE TO GO!”

Jonas rolls his eyes as he leans back and waits for the food and drink to come. After a few minutes, the door opens and five more people enter the bar, two women and three men. “And here they are, my fine f***ing crew. Master Dwarf and associates, meet my son, Mads and my daughter Ilona, they drive the 2nd and 3rd wagons.” They acknowledge you but don’t seem real social as they sit down in chairs in a nearby table.

“F***ing charmers like their mother, Therin rest her soul,” Jonas says with another eye roll. He motions towards the two other men who entered. “Then here’s Garek and Vendaris, they drive the other two wagons. They make my kids seem like f***ing gibbering mouthers…” They too, nod without speaking and join Jonas’ kids at their table.

Jonas continues. “You’ll meet Jarki in the morning, he’s one of my guards. One of the toughest sons of bitches I’ve ever met and loyal as a f***ing hound. He and my other guard have been switching off who does the night shifts and it’s his night, poor bastard. But here’s my other guard, she’s been with us since Coctoestenson and unlike the others, she actually knows how to f***ing speak. So I’ll let her introduce herself.”

To a trained eye, a professional, these were the sort of details that mattered: when the group made their way into the tavern, one of the women was in the lead, with the hood of her rain-dappled cloak still up and with one hand on the hilt of the plain short sword at her belt. She took one quick glance around the room before her other hand flicked open, and she stepped to the side to let the rest of the group go by- to a casual observer it was simply a moment's pause to shake off her cloak and pull down her hood...

There was a longer, more measured sweep of the room before she strode forward towards Jonas. She kept her head down and nodded to her boss as she made her way closer. "All clear outside, sir. Wagons and stock squared away, and Jarki has the watch." Up close, she gave another glance at the group gathered around the merchant, then shook her head slightly. Anyone watching would have noticed by now that she kept her eyes lowered in a rather deferential manner, and she did not seem prone to smiling. "Wish you had told us the traveling circus was in town, sir. I wouldn't have wagered so much of my coin off to Jarki if I'd have known there would be entertainment..." She paused again, obviously debating something.

"Y' can call me Lena, if the boss didn't tell ya that much already." Her voice was low, more a growl than a drawl- and her accent definitely wasn't local. Her clothing was likewise not much like that of the local townsfolk- a battered patchwork of browns and greys, leather and wool, the sort of garb typical for mercenary scouts, caravan trash, and bandits...

"To put it bluntly; You lot are being hired as a temporary Guards for both Darrax&Iredell, getting paid by both Townships fer Bandit removal&Roaming Protection 'till such time as the King's Patrol shows back up.Pay(fer you lot,at the least) consists of Double the normal guard wages, any bounties they may have plus whutever we find on their bodies.I just get the later 2 an my Usual wages..."

Turning his attention back to Lena,Berend motions for her to take a seat as he remarks

The aging wizard offers a wry smile to the weathered female, "Some of the best entertainments are free. Would you like to hear some of my suggestions? Perhaps in private, if you have the time?" Raising his off-hand as if to hush any response from the young female "scout", he adds, "Please my beauty...think about it...don't be so quick to dismiss my person."

Turning quickly back to Wheelwright and Talnoth he smiles and claps his hands, "So we have a deal then! I must admit that I hate haggling over financial details. They can leave such a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Mr. Talnoth, if you would have me as part of your guard, then I am yours to command as you see fit." He concludes with a slight deferential bow of the head.
