She wears the mask because she’s shy, you see.

Relationship (Kitana)- Jade & Kitana were close childhood friends and worked for Shao Kahn together. She ultimately chose Kitana over Kahn, and betrayed her master.
Enemy (Mileena, Shao Kahn)

Jade- Secret Kharacter:
-Jade was a rarity- a Secret Kharacter (fought by winning a round using only Low Kick) who was a FEMALE, and a Palette Swap of the girls instead of the Lin Kuei guys. Similarly to Smoke & Noob, she was fast as hell, and used the moves of the other ladies- separated only by her darker skin (she's the living embodiment of Ambiguously Brown- the characters who appear somewhat non-white, but it's never explained exactly what. Well, she IS an alien) and her immunity to projectiles. Jade has turned into a much more sassy and confident character, in order to separate her from Mileena & Kitana a little more. In addition to that, they dropped the Klone attacks and gave her an energy staff and razor-sharp boomerangs. Honestly, I find her visual design a LOT more striking than either Kitana or Mileena, so it's kind of sad that her overall role in the story is "Kitana's Friend".
-Jade was actually used a fair bit in the Annihilation movie, palling around with the main characters and trying to hit on Liu Kang- but it turns out she was evil all along, and trying to seduce Kang so Shao Kahn could kill him in an ambush. When she failed to stop the heroes, Kahn executed her with a living gargoyle. In an MK novel, she was a mere one-hit-K.O. that fought Sonya once. The chief thing holding Jade back is that she's still inherently a Palette Swap- despite the small changes they've made to her outfit (and some sorta-racial qualities to her), she's ultimately just a dark-skinned Kitana in a SLIGHTLY different outfit. And we all know that copies generally end up viewed as lesser than the original.
Original Kontinuity:
-Jade is an Edenian patriot who was a childhood friend of Princess Kitana- she fights on Kahn's behalf in MK II, but ends up aiding Kitana when she breaks away from Outworld and fights Shao Kahn in MK 3's later editions (the Female Ninjas didn't make the cut in the first incarnation of the game)- she was sent to capture Kitana at first, but fought Reptile when it turned out the two were actually supposed to murder her. She skipped out on MK: Deadly Alliance (mourning Kitana's death), then tried to rescue her in MK: Deception. She swore vengeance against Tanya for betraying them all, fighting her in this and the final game, MK: Armageddon.
New Kontinuity:
-Jade returns in a very similar role in the post-2011 series. She watches from the sidelines, but gets involved during the first tournament, losing to Sonya & Jax alongside Shang Tsung. She and Kitana, again her childhood friend, go off on their own at Shao Kahn's bidding. She lectures Kitana to be more mindful of her father, Shao Kahn, and tries desperately to prevent her from entering the forbidden Flesh Pits- when they discover the truth (that Kahn had Kitana cloned), Jade is mortified, and makes it up to Kitana by rescuing her. She manages to beat Baraka, Sheeva and Mileena in succession before allying with the Earthrealm fighters... however, she is promptly disemboweled by Queen Sindel, dying with most of the other heroes. She is resurrected by Quan Chi as a revenant... but oddly disappears completely from the narrative after this point. Seriously, she doesn't appear AT ALL in MK X, and is the only slain hero from the 2011 game to not do so.
-Revenant Jade still serves Kitana in MK 11, but we also find a younger Jade returning to life thanks to Kronika's time-quake. Young Jade allies with Kotal Kahn and defeats her Revenant self, D'Vorah and other minions of Kronika, but refuses to allow Kotal to slaughter the Tarkatans he finds in a camp. She manages to defeat Kotal (!!), but both are captured by a resurrected Shao Kahn. She is freed by the heroes and Baraka and others ally with the heroes, rescuing Kotal from execution. Revenant Jade is beaten by the Briggs family and finally Fire God Liu Kang in the story's end. In the Aftermath DLC, she jobs again and again, finally being killed by Sindel.
Jade's Stats:
-Jade fights pretty much like Kitana & Mileena, but is a bit worse at melee fighting unless she's using her Staff. She has the REALLY unique ability to become immune to the ranged attacks of others (which nukes a piece of offense from almost every single character!), and uses TWO distinct Devices instead of just one, making her more pricey than she probably should be.
