Total: Abilities: 52 / Skills: 46--23 / Advantages: 10 / Powers: 1 / Defenses: 13 (99)

-Armor King was such a big part of King's backstory in the Tekken series that it was weird how he only appeared in the first two games- in all the others, he's just a Backgrounder in the stories of each King. It wasn't until Tekken 5 that we finally saw a NEW Armor King- a vicious ass-kicker wearing an even MORE bitching uniform, somewhat inspired by the numerous Road Warriors knock-offs that populated wrestling, such as Demolition and the Powers of Pain. Now, he's got a BAD-ASS LONGCOAT, making him look extra rad.

-It's initially thought that this could be the original Armor King returned, but Craig Marduk actually DIGS UP HIS CORPSE to prove this wrong, before being confronted by Armor King II. It turns out that the original had a younger brother, and this guy is NOT having any of King II's "Forgiveness" crap, and simply wants to MURDER Marduk. He and Marduk badly injure each other in Tekken 7, thus missing out on a bit of the game as a result- they're later added as Downloadable Content.

-Armor King II gets the upgrade to PL 8 status enjoyed by the modern Tekken fighters, especially because he's said to have beaten Craig Marduk in Tekken 5.

Jabroniville wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2019 2:46 am -King's appearance is largely based off of Satoryu Sayama, the original Tiger Mask, one of the originators of the high-flying "Junior Heavyweight" style that would since change the course of wrestling history, as its style became reflected in North American Cruiserweights, then Ring of Honor, then the Indie-style wrestling scene, and finally WWE and New Japan. Sayama is a MAJOR legend in Japanese wrestling, but retired fairly early out of disgust at the wrestling business. His successors as Tiger Mask have included Mitsuharu Misawa (who would gain FAR greater success as the "Ace" of All Japan Pro Wrestling before dying in the ring due to an injury) and Koji Kanemoto, and there's even a CURRENT one running around!
Sayama should really have more international credit since he also invented the acrobatic move "Tiger Feint Kick", that was later popularized by Rey Mysterio as the "6-1-9".
The Tiger Feint was an actual feint of his; the first guy to literally swing into a kick was actually the deceptively-stocky Silver King in his Black Tiger identity. Rey later claimed to have invented it (he used to do the Tiger Feint regularly), but it’s hard to know whether or not he knew of Black Tiger’s.

Dodge +9 (DC 19), Parry +13 (DC 23), Toughness +2, Fortitude +4, Will +5

Complications:
Motivation (Finding the Truth About Mom's Death)- Leo's mother was killed, and the police investigation was called off early. Leo joins the King of the Iron Fist Tournaments in order to discover the truth about her death.

Total: Abilities: 54 / Skills: 32--16 / Advantages: 11 / Powers: 2 / Defenses: 11 (94)

-Leo Kliesen is a very typically Japan-styled character- a pretty, slender character with a gender so ambiguous it's never given in the official sources. Leo is basically given as "Neither", and is able to wear both female and male-only outfits in the "Outfit Creator" aspects of Tekken. This was apparently so that "Leo would appeal to both males and females". Despite that, some American sources (lacking gender-neutral pronouns) use "he" periodically, possibly because "feminine male" is ALSO a huge "Japan-Style" character type. The "Fighters Generation" guy indicates that Leo is female, but the Tekken Wiki says it's still ambiguous.

-Leo's father was a world-famous spelunker (... the f*ck? Since when are SPELUNKERS world famous in the 2000s?), and his (goddamnit, now I'M doing it) mother was a G Corporation executive, but Leo's father disappeared during an expedition years ago. Finally, Leo's mother was killed in recent times- suspicious over the police calling off the investigation suspiciously early, Leo began investigating Kazuya Mishima himself.

-Leo uses the Baji Quan fighting style, which involves a lot of very sudden and lethal strikes. The moves have very little lag, but often leave the character open to counter-attacks- I left Leo at PL 7.5 as a result.

I recall reading that Leo was supposed to be female originally ("Eleonor"), but was switched to gender-ambiguous for some reason.

Responsibility (Cop)- Lei is a dutiful police officer, and frequently joins tournaments while chasing after some criminal or another. His targets have included Kazuya, Nina, Bryan, and Feng Wei.
Addicent (Clumsy)- Lei is prone to tripping or falling.

Total: Abilities: 62 / Skills: 52--26 / Advantages: 19 / Powers: 2 / Defenses: 13 (122)

-Lei Wulong is one of very few new characters added to Tekken 2 (back before the roster became TRULY huge), and was a good addition. A police detective, he was inspired by Jackie Chan (he's called "SuperCop", after an iconic role of Chan's, and has been voiced by Jackie's Japanese Voiceover guy since Tekken 4), in that he's honorable and kind, but a bit of a clown. A good cop, he investigates Kazuya Mishima's activities, and ends up being targeted by Bruce Irvin. Returning in Tekken 3 along with a fair bit of others, he's now much older, but still basically the same fighter. In Tekken 4, he was suspended from the police force (jealous rivals sabotaged his career after he bungled an operation) and sought to reclaim his honor, but he's prevented from arresting the much-wanted Nina Williams by her "son", Steve Fox. He enters many other tournaments on random policie investigations, such as against Bryan Fury or Feng Wei.

-Lei is a very capable recurring fighter, but never a top name- he fits the PL 8 status perfectly. Highly-skilled and intelligent, though, making him one of the priciest characters in his "tier". In practice, he's said to be a very tough character to master, as he has some very off-kilter stances (a bit "Drunken Kung Fu") and a problem with "over-committing", allowing for big counterattacks. Ideally, you need to mix up your attacks and stances (called a "mixup" game), thus becoming dangerous through unpredictability, as your opponent can never guess your next move.

LEI WULONG
Ah, the moveset that started it all

His notes:
Breakdown - Lei Wulong appears to be inspired by Jackie Chan's Wong Fei Hung character from the Drunken Master series. His hair, outfit, and moveset confirm this. Attacks and throws are taken directly from Drunken Master 1 and 2. The designers also threw in various animal poses from Hong Kong film lore, making Lei Wulong a fun, mythical fighter.

Maybe he had a cybernetic arm.

Jokes aside, I can testify that it's very hard to remember to use 'they' for characters like this.

Oh, haha- that dude. Apparently he's a... "canyoneer"? I assumed it was "mountaineer". Cave-explorers are spelunkers. I don't know why we need so many phrases to deal with people who climb rocks for fun, but that's English for you :).

And yes, I tried to use "Leo" as much as possible, but still did it by accident. Rather than edit it, I thought it was funnier/explanatory to leave it in, because I was TRYING not to and still did it.

-"Crow" is the designation of the lowest-end members of the "Tekken Force", the goon squad of Heihachi Mishima. In Tekken 3, one acts as a training dummy of sorts, and you can practice on them. A cheat code allows Crow to be playable, so he counts enough for these builds. They are REALLY poor, lacking jumping capabilities and many other things, as they're not really meant to be playable at all. As such, I gave Crow Mook-Level stats.

Crow does have an official (but very obscure) playable appearance, since he appears in the really obscure spinoff "Tekken Card Challenge" for the Wonderswan of all things. The Tekken Force appear as mooks (with Crow being the lowest-level Mook), and Crow is even a playable character (but the weakest in the game, so he's pretty much a Joke Character there, so these stats fit) I always found it cool how Tekken 3 introduced the "Tekken Force" Beat 'Em Up mode, which controls exactly the same as the main game, but you go through a sidescrolling level beating up Tekken Force mooks, Final Fight-style. The Tekken Force goons appear in Tekkens 4-7 as well, since the campaign modes usually include them as Mooks (though I believe only 3 and Card Challenge use the bird codenames.

Total: Abilities: 16 / Skills: 26--13 / Advantages: 8 / Powers: 36 / Defenses: 13 (86)

-Jack was our first sign that something was a bit odd about the Tekken series- while the game was largely set in "reality" of a sorts (aside from the little energy bursts when you hit guys, it was pretty much "martial artists using martial arts moves on each other"), the first game also had a ROBOT in it. Jack was a killing machine built by the Russian military, and proved itself in the first King of the Iron Fist Tournament, thus created a lineage of Jack-2 robots that were used in battlefields across the world. However, in Tekken 2, a Jack-2 comes across a young girl, developing a conscience and saving her life- he is destroyed in his own ending by a Doctor Abel, and the little girl, Jane, grows into a genius herself, rebuilding this Jack-2 unit as Gun Jack. Gun Jack, too, was destroyed, and so Jane joins the G Corporation and starts up a new line of Jacks, hoping to recreate her companion once more. This means that all the Jacks after Tekken 2 are technically the same Jack.

-Jack-4 appears in Tekken 4 only in the cinematics, as he skips that game- a few Jacks are sent to kill Heihachi, but fail. Jack-5 is therefore in Tekken 5 instead. Jane and Kazuya work together to create Jack-6 for Tekken 6 in order to destroy the Mishima Zaibatsu. In Street Fighter X Tekken, a Jack-X is selectable.

-To be honest, I always found the Jacks rather boring- they lack personality, and their design is usually just "big hulking guy". The fact that they get endlessly xeroxed in makes them dull, too. A few of the later models were a bit more fantastical, but that also makes them an odd fit- Jack is typically the most outlandish character in the Main Cast of each game- only the Secret Characters & Bosses are weirder.

-Jacks are quite tough in Tekken, usually being the most powerful character in the game, but also very slow and requiring a lot of time to set up their offense. They have good reach and are durable, but are pretty typical "Mighty Glacier" characters.
