Tenzil is the man. Most of my favorite characters from the LSH weren’t actually on the team (Laurel Kent, Night Girl, Polar Boy) but Matter-Eater Lad was on the official squad and he was awesome.

He knew that most people thought that his powers were a joke, so he played up to that image and didn’t let it bother him. In fact, he usually used it to his advantage... But, in truth, his powers were actually incredibly potent (just ask the Miracle Machine) but he nevertheless was happy to play the fool.
I want this man's power just so i can have the following conversation;
Cop:"So let me get this right;he pulled a gun on you and you just....ate it?"
ME:"yes officer."
COP:"Why?"
ME:"Cause i was feeling hungry & needed my Iron,so...."
There is a commercial where Danny DeVito turns into an M&M candy. I heard someone on the street say that is nasty not even Rhea Perlman would want to eat him!

Maybe Matter-Eater lad?

Oddly, fellow Bismollian Calorie Queen was actually more powerful than Tenzil.

Not that odd, she’d used some sort of super-science to give her super-powers. Like approximately 24,601 other superheroes.

By Bismollian standards, Tenzil doesn’t have any superpowers. He’s just a regular Bismollian, with an extra helping of charisma, courage, and quick wits. In TV Trope terms, Tenzil is a “Badass Normal” to his homeworld. Taryn is a “Powerhouse” archetype hero, albeit one with a time limit on her powers... She’s basically the Bismollian equivalent of Hour-Man!

Most alien Legionnaires have the same superpower as everyone else on their home planet, but are explicitly said to be more powerful and/or more skilled than anyone else. Everyone from Braal is magnetokinetic, but Rokk is considered to be the best at using it; every Naltoran is a precognitive, Nura is the most powerful... Tenzil isn’t any better or worse than other Bismollians are at eating stuff. He’s a superhero (to them) for his skills and wits, despite his lack (to them) of superpowers.

Matter-Eater Lad is the Bismollian MacGyver.

The Reboot Legion touched on that idea, that even when from a planet where everyone had similar powers, Legion members were the equivalent of Olympic Athletes, basically to their power what folks like Batman and Nightwing are to normal humans. Reboot Cosmic Boy was actually the top player of "Magno-Ball" on his world, for instance. Saturn Girl was an unusually gifted Telepath. So on.

One idea I thought was decent was the reason for why "Valor" was so widely respected in the 31st century. Supposedly in the 21st Century, Lar Gand had found groups of humans and human-like aliens the Dominators had experimented on, who had all been kidnapped from their home worlds, some of which had been badly ravaged by the Dominators. So Lar helped relocate those groups to fresh planets where they could start over, helping them set up new worlds for themselves. Because of the Dominators experiments, superpowers eventually emerged on many of the worlds, each one a little different due to the planet and the person experimented. And because of the small population those powers eventually spread to the entire group, until each planet was basically genetic "cousin" of humanity who all had a unique power. So the reason there were a dozen or so worlds of people who looked completely human save for the one weird power they all had was because of Lar rescuing some humans and near-human aliens 1,000 years in the past. And over time, the origins of those planets were lost to time, with some remember a legend about Valor as this kind of cosmic messiah or God.

I actually mentioned Chalorie Queen and how something similar could be used to "buff" ME-Lad back here, but oh well. ;) I'd still give them some ability related to their metabolism, getting more durable and faster the more they eat, which lets them eat faster, but after a certain point they need to keep eating to maintain that speed. It'd allow for some of the goofier, cartoonish stunts like ME-Lad escaping an alien prison by eating himself an underground tunnel out. Which ACTUALLY HAPPENED in Legion continuity.

And if I really wanted to be silly, I'd have Bismoll be one of the wealthiest planets in the galaxy, but simultaneously a source of constant humor.

Basically, Bismollian digestive systems are like miniature alchemical labs, which is one reason why they can eat everything. Their bones are teeth are practically indestructible, their saliva causes most substances to break down, their tongues can identify any matter down to its chemical make up by taste, and their stomachs can digest pretty much anything. They're amazing chefs and chemists, and they have some control over what their body does with the material they eat. They can actually produce some interesting, rare and precious compounds that are hard to find and invaluable to a galactic society. But, well, the process and collection is . . . well, it'd be embarrassing to anyone else.

That's right, a major source of Bismoll's income is that their people can literally poop gold. Or steel. Or inertron. Maybe even Kryptonite if they have access to the right stuff. It was a secret for a while, but once it came out, the Bismollian's just shrugged and said, "Hey, we get rich and people literally handle our shit", so they have amazingly good senses of humor. So the galaxy treats Bismoll as "the goose that can lay the golden eggs", which is why Tenzil never had a problem calling himself Matter-Eater Lad.

Bismollian’s should also have an absolute immunity to airborne toxins, pathogens, and noxious gases. The ability to digest any form of matter implies the ability to respirate any form of matter as well.

Bismollians could thus colonize planets that many other species would find absolutely uninhabitable. Hmm... perhaps they have done so, thus making Bismollians the silent majority population of the UP, hence Tenzil’s continued success in politics!

“Nothing organic grows here and the atmosphere is 99% aerosolized radium? But it’s got beautiful sunsets and countless miles of sandy beaches? Alright, let’s build a Bismollian Hotel-Casino!”

Oh GOD I love that all-pink costume, though. It's more dated than all the rest combined, but seeing such a maternal, mature figure dress in "Nude Legion" fashions is just... woog.

Total: Abilities: 52 / Skills: 30--15 / Advantages: 22 / Powers: 67 / Defenses: 15 (171)

Silver Age Saturn Girl:
-Saturn Girl is as old-school as they get on the Legion, and seems to be the only female character to make it out of the humorously sexist 1960s as a strong, independent woman who never reverted to self-parodying weepiness, bitching about nobody noticing her new haircut, or falling easy victim to every super-villain. Strong-willed, capable and powerful with her psychic powers, Imra Ardeen & Garth "Lightning Lad" Ranzz make up the Legion's TRUE official Power Couple (most of the other couples miss at least one of the three major continuities), and they've had some of the most fascinating stories. I mean, she's been married, one of her twin boys was captured and sent to the past to become VALIDUS, she's toppled countless villains solo, and she's tried to sacrifice herself to save others more than once. And all without going bad, wearing a slutty black costume (the slutty Mike Grell pink costume was the worst it ever got- and she was practically Mother Theresa in THAT Legion era in terms of costumes!), or turning post-modern bad-ass killer. Truly something special & unique in comics- there's always something appealing about the Team Mom, y'know? She's basically "The Invisible Woman" of the Legion, though seems to have adopted the Sue-like traits first (it took Sue till the '80s to really become the version we recognize today), so give her credit there.

-Saturn Girl debuted as an original Legionnaire alongside Lightning Lad & Cosmic Boy. In an early story, she attempted to sacrifice herself after learning that a Legionnaire would die during an attack, but Garth took the shot for her. She later attempted to sacrifice herself AGAIN in the attempt to revive Garth, but Proty, admiring her courage, sacrificed himself instead. Saturn Girl was elected leader of the Legion twice during this span, making her the first female superhero to ever lead a team. In the SIXTIES!

-Her relationship with Lightning Lad, initially based off of her rebuffing his advances, started in earnest when he sacrificed himself for her. However, she rejected multiple proposals of marriage because it would mean they'd have to retire (thanks to the Legion charter- WHICH THEY WROTE- indicating such). However, after ten years (and her consulting her mentors on Titan), she relented. They retired, but quickly rejoined the fight when the Legion was captured, and the charter was rewritten after her telepathy was instrumental in victory. They retired once more to raise their son Graym.

-Saturn Girl single-handedly defeated Universo when he hypnotized and imprisoned most of Earth, and rejoined the Legion, while Garth played "house-husband". They never rejoined the Legion after the "Five Years Later" era, having grown independently wealthy, and helping people through charity work and feeding the hungry instead. They would even be reunited with a second son- a twin who was kidnapped by Darkseid and turned into the monstrous Validus. They added two more children as this first continuity faded.

Later Saturn Girls:
-Reboot Imra was once again a charter Legionnaire, and began dating "Live Wire" after initially being unable to choose between him and Cosmic Boy. After some initial struggles, she and Garth were married in this continuity as well. They ended up in the Legion Lost story, stranded in a faraway galaxy, and Garth was killed fighting Element Lad. They had somewhat reconnected by continuity's end, though she had a hard time dealing with him living in a facsimile of Element Lad's body.

-In "Threeboot", Imra's Titanian people were mute telepaths, having atrophied their ability to speak. Here, her coldness is exaggerated to its highest level, but she also has feelings of inadequacy which lead her into an affair with Ultra Boy, straining things with Lightning Lad considerably. In the Post-Infinite Crisis books, she appears in the 21st Century, believed to be insane because she's ranting and raving about the Legion of the future.

Saturnian Stats:
-Saturn Girl is a rare PL 11 on the team, thanks to her effective Mental Attacks- this actually makes her noticeably better against Daxamites than most of her team, as a Will +4 Civilian will go down to a Mental Blast, no matter HOW high his toughness is. She's got an incredibly powerful mind with varied tricks (a Dynamic Telepath Array), which makes her an ultimate team player, and is probably the single strongest-willed member of the ENTIRE Legion, including Superboy & Supergirl, thanks to her mental training. She's not as good in a fist-fight, but like The Invisible Woman, if you screw with her family, be prepared to have a heap of Hero Points shoved straight up your hind end from a cranky blonde Den Mother.

-Saturn Girl was initially depicted as very powerful and varied in might during the 1960s stories, but writers later scaled back the "Game Breaking" powers like Mind Control so that she was pretty much only reading minds after a point. The Reboot team brought back many of those powers (writers were more easily able to write around them by that point), but likely around PL 10-ish.

You should probably give her a Memory Alteration alternate effect, given that she routinely erases Superboy and Supergirl's memories of future knowledge when they time travel back to the twentieth century.

She always does that at the end of the adventure. Maybe she’s just spending that one last Hero Point on a Power Stunt!

Was that a Silver Age thing? I've never seen it. In '80s comics I have, Superman seems to know the deal.

The most notable example is from the Great Darkness saga, where Superboy asks Saturn Girl to do it, and talks cheerfully about his adopted parents ... as she realizes that he's probably carrying the disease that's going to kill them back from the future.

Yep, part of the Status Quo Is God! nature of the Silver Age era. This was the height of “Super Dickery” after all.

Incidentally, for those of you that haven't read it Linkara's review of The Great Darkness Saga is an excellent summary of one of the best LSH stories of all time.
