Yeah, this fictional Chicago is almost, but not quite, as dark, gloomy, and hopeless as the real one.
Replacing Gotham with Chicago. @#$@#! great idea, I wish I had thought of it! Would have made it easy to slide Harry Dresden into the Bat-Verse without a long train ride.

Glad to see you back at it, BGIII. 8-)

Height: 5'10" (1.78 m)
Weight: 126 lbs. (57 kg)

Race: Amazon
Identity: Secret
Religion: Amazonian Pantheon
Relationships: Hippolyta (mother)
Legal Status: Citizen of Themyscira with no criminal record.

Background
Over three-thousand years before the present day, during the Mythic Age there arose a great kingdom one one of the Greek Islands. A mighty and wealthy kingdom, when its first Queen died leaving as her only children a pair of twins: brother and sister. A dispute arose over the succession and the entire civilization was split man against woman. The magical powers and martial prowess of each side was great and the civil war dragged on for decades.

Eventually a faction of the New Gods heavily involved with ancient Earth, known as the Olympians, chose to intervene, to protect the Amazons from destruction, the goddess Hera and her daughters transported them to the island of Themyscira, where they do would cease to age and could live in peace. Only three times in history would a man ever see the hidden shores of Themyscira: In the very early 6th Century C.E. the last two Knights of the Round Table, Sir Percy of Scandia and his recently knighted former squire Sir Ystin, sailed to the island to return the sword Excalibur to the Amazons. Percy never came ashore, but Ystin did... only Sir Percy returned. In the late 1930's, a British merchant ship was attacked by a German U-Boat, disabled, and drifted within sight of Themyscira's coast. Queen Hippolyta destroyed the Germans but had mercy on the unarmed British sailors and returned with them to the Man's world. She would go on to fight for the Allied powers as part of the super-hero team known as The Invaders. Hippolyta was praised as "that wonderful woman" in an interview with Eleanor Rooselvelt, thus name Wonder Woman was coined. Wonder Woman never revealed her origins to her Invaders team-mates and disappeared shortly after V-E Day. The next outside contact would occur shortly after in 1970.

Hippolyta, still reigning as the only Queen the Amazons had ever known, had spent much time in Man's World during the war... despite seeing mankind at their absolute worst, she also saw them at their finest. Their duty to country, devotion to their comrades-in-arms, and the sacrifice millions would make to save the lives strangers from evil. Deeply touched by the experience, the would begin to yearn for a child and started pray to the goddesses to grant her wish. In 1970 an intense hurricane would force American pilot Steve Trevor to crash land on the Themscrian's hidden island. He is the first male outsider to ever set foot on Themyscira's soil... as Sir Ystin of Camelot had, in fact, been a woman in the garb of a man. the ancient laws demanded Trevor's death, but instead the Queen took him prisoner and ordered he be given the best medical attention the Amazons could provide. Hippolyta took him as a husband, and was soon pregnant by him. Hippolyta given birth to the first Amazon child in three millennia, whom she named Diana.

In a closely guarded secret, known only to the Queen and her Consort, a twin brother was also born. Steve Trevor fled Themyscira with the male infant... but that is a story for another day.

Two decades later, the Amazons collectively decided that they must end their isolation, to interact more fully with Patriarch's World. It was decided that one of their number should be sent out, as an ambassador and explorer. Hippolyta ordered her smiths to create an Amazonian version of the garb she had worn as Wonder Woman. A great contest was held and in the end, the champion was her only daughter, Diana.

The new Wonder Woman would make her debut in 1995, causing a stir when she stopped a HYDRA attack on Washington D.C. She would eventually create two identities for herself: As Donna Troy, she is the owner of a small antiques shop in the Georgetown suburb of D.C., keeping a quite life with only a few close friends and her two cats: Artemis and Luna. As Princess Diana of Themyscira she is a diplomat and political figure.

Wonder Woman would join with the Batman and Superman to form the Justice League in 2001. She joined primarily to keep a closer eye on it, she respected Clark's nobility and saw the honor in Bruce's mission, but she didn't see much need for team-work. Joining the League in 2001 had been a tactical move for Diana, she saw Superman, the Batman and the others as valuable weapons, not as friends. During their time together, Bruce, Clark, and Diana would come to form a close friendship that the rest of the League finds difficult to understand. The three trust each other implicitly and have forged deep bonds. She had been raised to believe no man was worthy enough to lead her into battle, although they could perhaps fight by her side, she would hold to that belief for the first five years of the League's existence. Until the day she meet Captain America.

It was Captain America, shocked and disoriented upon his awakening and lashing out, that became first man to best her in battle. Captain America remains the only man she considers worthy enough to call a leader. Although the Batman and Captain America failed to get along from almost day one —culminating in Bruce quitting the League — Diana and Steve Rogers formed a partnership. Fighting along side one another both in adventures with and apart from the League. Two old souls in a modern age, two heroes who saw themselves as equal-parts soldier and peacemaker... their partnership became a friendship, and eventually a romance.

I like the idea of a ST 10, high-tier fighter type of Diana, along with the more reasonable stats. It keeps her a bit different from Superman especially, giving her a different nice other than "Strong Character, But Less Strong Than Supes".

Wouldn't having Move Object 23 on her lasso combine with her +12 ranged attack bonus to give her a PL of 18? The Affliction 14 as well would require a PL of 13.

Oops! Failed proofreading on my part, I didn't mean for her to have the Ranged Combat (4) Advantages. The math should be correct now.

The general idea is that Bruce is the stealthy, accuracy focused "striker;" Clark is the toughness focused, brute damaging "defender;" and Diana falls somewhere in the middle. She's far more accurate and technical than most 'powerhouses,' but far stronger and tougher than most 'martial artists.'

I love Wonder Woman as a character, but her suite of powers and skills in the comics has always been a little too... unfocused. She can fly, but she has a jet; She's invulnerable, but has indestructible bracelets; She can lift massive weights, but she also has a lasso... So I've reigned her in a bit. She can still do all of that stuff, but she's not at the level of the Kryptonians. On the other hand, she's got far more out of combat utility than Clark and nearly as many in combat options as Bruce.

With Dex 8 she would still have PL 16 from the Move Object 23. She is also now under-PL with the Affliction 14, as it comes out to PL 11. A +8 ranged attack bonus also seems a little low for this Diana. She is always protrayed in media as having really good aim with her lasso, thrown tiara, with a bow or just chucking objects (like that time she knocked out Batman with a thrown rock in 'JLA: League of One').

To square it off I would think it should be Move Object 12 (with 11 ranks of the Increased Mass modifier if you want to bring it back up to 200k tons lifting) and Affliction 12, with 4 ranks of the Ranged Attack advantage.

Real Name: Capt. Stephen "Steve" Rogers
Occupation: Children's Book Illusrator / U.N. Peacekeeper
Education: High School Graduate
Date of Birth: July 4, 1920 (Age 97)
Base of Operations: Boston, Massachusetts
Height: 6'0" (1.83 m)
Weight: 200 lbs. (90 kg)
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blonde
Race: Human
Identity: Public
Religion: Lutheran
Relationships: None
Legal Status: Citizen of the United States with no criminal record.

Background
Steve Rogers was born on July 4, 1920 in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City, to Irish immigrants Sarah and Joseph Rogers. By the early 1940s, before America's entry into World War II, Rogers was a tall but scrawny fine arts student specializing in illustration. Disturbed by the rise of the Third Reich, Rogers attempted to enlist multiple times in different cities, only to be rejected due to his poor constitution. One enlistment attempt led to Dr. Abraham Erskine overhearing Rogers' conversation with his best pal, James Barnes about wanting to help in the war. Dr. Abraham Erskine allows Rogers to enlist and recruited in the Scientific Strategic Reserve as part of a "super-soldier" experiment under Erskine, Colonel Chester Phillips, and British Agent King Faraday. Operation: Rebirth, which seeks to develop a means of creating physically superior soldiers. Rogers volunteers for the research and, after a rigorous selection process, is chosen as the first human test subject for the Super-Soldier serum.

The Nazis and their HYDRA division, upon discovering Erskine's location, dispatched an assassin to kill him. Moments after Rogers emerged from the experimental chamber taller and more muscular, one of the attendees kills Erskine, revealing himself to be a HYDRA assassin, Heinz Kruger. Rogers pursues and captures Kruger, but the assassin commits suicide by cyanide capsule before he can be interrogated.

The United States government, making the most of its one super-soldier, re-imagines him as a superhero who serves as both a counter-intelligence agent and a propaganda symbol to counter Nazi Germany's head of terrorist operations, the Red Skull. To that end, Rogers is given a uniform modeled after the American flag, a bulletproof shield, a personal side arm, and the codename Captain America. He is also given a cover identity as a clumsy infantry private at Camp Lehigh in Virginia. In 1941, while on tour in Europe performing for active servicemen, Rogers learned that Barnes' unit was lost in a battle against Nazi forces — including the new Nazi super-villains. Rogers leads The Invaders into action against them and superheroes become a part of World War II on the front lines.

In 1945, during the closing days of World War II, Captain America and the Invaders try to stop the villainous Silver Samurai from destroying an experimental drone plane. The Samurai launches the rocket with an armed atomic explosive on it, with Rogers in hot pursuit. He reaches the drone just before it takes off, but when Rogers tries to defuse the bomb, it explodes in mid-air. The Invaders who witness the event believed him killed, but Rogers is hurled into the freezing waters of the North Atlantic. Neither body is found, and he is presumed dead.

Six decades later, the Fantastic Four are persuaded by S.H.E.I.L.D. to investigate the possibility that the metahuman terrorist Magneto is building a fortress at the Arctic magnetic pole, they find no sign of Magneto but they do discover Captain America frozen in the ice. Upon reawakening, Rogers is persuaded by the surviving members of the Invaders and by President Lex Luthor to return to duty as a member of the Justice League of America. Captain America and the Batman clash from the beginning, and in July 2006 Batman completely quits the league rather than continue to work with him.

Superman and "Cap" get along just fine, although Steve worries about Clark's tendency to act without thinking. Wonder Woman considers Steve to be the only man worthy enough to lead her into battle, while she trusts Clark and respects Bruce, she actually admires Steve. The Batman and Captain have an intense and mutual dislike for each other.

I've always envisioned it as the pair of them being too much alike to get along. They're actually very similar personalities: dedicated, loyal, charismatic, and driven as hell. But they're also both coming at things from very different places. Bruce's personal mission makes him a preemptive crusader — no one should become a victim of crime like his parents; Steve's personal mission is a defensive guardian — protecting the people of his nation from outside tyranny. It's a "conflict of visions" that combines with their Type A personalities and ends in conflict.

I've never played this as an outright hatred or disdain. They aren't brawling in the streets, they aren't hurling insults at each other... If Magneto or the Super-Skrull starts to tear up the town square, they'll have a "superhero team-up" and stop the bad guy.

Clark and Bruce are a complimentary duo. Captain America and the Batman are a case of like repelling like.

Diana gets along fine with all of them.

Legal Status: Citizen of the United States with no criminal record.

Background
The All-Father of the New Gods decided that it was time his son and heir, Thor, learned humility. Odin had Thor surrender his hammer to him, and then sent him to Earth in the mortal guise of a crippled young medical student named Donald Blake, stripped of his memory of his true identity. Don Blake did not exist prior to the Highfather willing it to be, created to be the host for his son Thor. This act of creation occurred sometime in the early 21st Century, but was somehow retroactive to the later 20th Century. Creating a full history and complete memories for the new young man. As Blake, Thor learned the value of humble perseverance in dealing with his injured leg, and he came to care for the sick and dying, first as a medical student, and later as a successful physician. After leaving medical school, Blake opened a private practice in upstate New York, and quickly gained renown in his community as a patient and caring professional.

After Thor had spent ten years in the role of Blake, the Highfather planted within his mind the suggestion to take a vacation to the American southwest. While hiking in the desert late one night, strange behavior in the night sky fascinated him and he wandered out into the desert... only to be struck by the van being driven by Dr. Jane Foster, Dr. Erik Selvig, and their intern Darcy Lewis. He awakened with a start, a combination of the blow to the head and the strange energies of the Biforst unlocking his memories, realizing he was on Earth and began shouting to Heimdall to open the Bifrost. The humans believed Thor to be crazy and, when Darcy threatened Thor with a taser, he was disgusted at her actions, insulted her, and she tazed him.

He awoke in a hospital, but broke out briefly before being hit again by a car, again driven by Jane. Jane, Erik and Darcy took him back to their "Wormhole Research Center" where Jane gave him some clothes. Later that day, while eating with his new friends at a local diner, Thor overheard some locals talking about a "satellite" that crashed to Earth... Of course, this "satellite" was the magical hammer Mjölnir.

Regaining his memories and a portion of his power, Thor was reborn. However, during Thor's long absence from New Genesis, his trickster half-brother, Loki, had set a series of plans into motion that culminated in a battle between Thor and the technomagical construct known as the Destroyer. In the wake of the battle, Thor was approached by SHIELD and asked to join the Avengers... Just in time to save New York City from the alien invasion led by his own brother.

Background
Tony Stark of Earth-III has pretty much the same personality and history as the Iron Man from the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe films, at least up to the end of Iron Man 3. His armor is a little different, as he needs to be able to go toe-to-armored-toe with very different threats "in a world of jet-powered apes and time travel."

Real Name: Peter Benjamin Parker
Occupation: Freelance Photographer
Education: Empire State University
Date of Birth: 1981 (Age 35)
Base of Operations: New York City, NY
Height: 5'8" (1.73 m)
Weight: 155 lbs. (71 kg)
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown
Race: Human
Identity: Secret
Religion: Jewish
Relationships: Mary-Jane Watson (wife), May Parker (daughter)
Legal Status: Citizen of the United States with no criminal record.

Background
Peter Benjamin Parker was born May 1, 1981, but lost both of his parents in an plane crash at age 3. Raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in Queens, NY, Peter was always a bit of a science nerd. Shy and introspective, Pete never had too many friends and spent most of his time working on science projects, reading comic-books, and dreaming up complex scenarios for his Dungeons & Dragons group.

When Peter was 15, he won first place in a state-wide science fair, and one of the prizes for the competition was a chance to attend a lecture by one of Pete's idols: Doctor Reed Richards. During this exhibition, Peter was bitten by a "radioactive" spider. No one has ever been able to determine exactly what transpired, and not even Dr. Richards has been able to duplicate it, but as a result Peter gained amazing superhuman abilities.

At first, Peter used his powers just for fun: humiliating the school bully, impressing pretty girls, that sort of thing. Deciding he needed to make some money (to buy a sports car, despite being too young to drive) he used his powers to sneak up on, tail, and snap photos of a local celebrities. He made a few bucks this way, but the big money came when he decided to track New York's Mayor, widely believed to be corrupt. Peter got his photos of Mayor Oswald Cobblepot accepting a bribe from reputed mobster Wilson Fisk, and sold them to the local tabloid-newspaper: The Daily Bugle.

At first, the Bugle's editor J. Jonah Jameson wanted to pay him only the most minimal fee possible, even if the photos would be perfect for the front page exposé that Lois Lane had been working on for month. As luck would have it, the Bugle's owner just happened to be visiting that day, and Bruce Wayne made Jameson pay Parker the full $1,000. It was further agreed that the photos would run under a nom d'plume of "Ben Riley." Unfortunately, Peter's success soon turned tragic. Returning home to Queens he found his Uncle Ben had been shot by an armed robber. Peter tracked down the thug, and cornered him in an abandoned warehouse. He beat the man black and blue, only stopping when the crook revealed that he'd only shot Ben Parker because he'd stopped paying his protection money to Fisk.

Haunted by his failure to act, and inspired by Uncle Ben's maxim that "With great power, must come great responsibility." Peter turned over a new leaf. He made his debut as Spider-Man soon after Ben's funeral.

Spider-Man was an immediate hit with the New York public, who loved his colorful character and swashbuckling style of crime-fighting. The New York Police department was a little more ambivalent, the "brass" condemned him as a vigilante, yet the beat cops on patrol loved him. Spidey just seemed closer to the everyday man-on-the-street than other superheroes, like Superman or the Fantastic Four. For reasons unknown, newspaper publisher J. Jonah Jameson immediately despised him and devotes most of his ink to lambasting him. Spider-Man: Threat or Menace!? is perhaps his most infamous headline and is sold on t-shirts across the city and was popular with the post-modern Gen X types in the late 1990's. Although, today's young hipsters seem prefer the post-post-modern Captain America shirts, worn "ironically."

Spider-Man first met Robin (Dick Grayson) in 1998, when the two teamed up, quiet by accident, when Spider-Man traveled to Chicago to catch Catwoman who'd just pulled a major heist from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. The two became fast friends, and when Dick deduced Peter's secret identity not long after they met, Dick trusted Pete enough to share his own secret identity (although he refuses, to this day, to share the Batman's true name).

Two years later, Spider-Man and Robin would join together with the Flash and Batgirl to foil a scheme by the Riddler to disrupt the 2000 Florida presidential election, the trio became good friends and were dubbed by the media as the Teen Titans. They all hated the name -- each being 18, 19 and 27 years old at the time! Peter remarked that they'd been calling him Spider-Man since he was 15, and now that he was an adult they wanted to call him a teen! (Wally, Babs, and Peter all eventually decided the blame lay with Dick's shortpants. An in-joke the four still share years later.)

Around the same time the Teen Titans were formed, Peter met and became romantically involved with an old classmate, the beautiful Gwen Stacy, daughter of the New York Chief of Police. In 2002, Gwen was abducted by the crazed serial killer known as The Joker, who had developed some inexplicable personal grudge against Gwen's father. Spider-Man managed to overcome the Joker's gang, and chased the insane clown to the top of the Brooklyn Bridge. Things turned tragic as the Joker tossed the young woman over the side to make his escape, Spider-Man tried to save Gwen only to discover that the fall had killed her.

In the wake of Gwen's death, Spider-Man sworn vengeance and donned a new black-and-white costume a began to hunt relentlessly for the Joker. Finally cornering him, Spider-Man beat him within an inch of his life until the intervention of the Batman and Robin. Spider-Man relented, and let Batman drag him off to Arkham. But it was Robin's reaction to this incident (and the assistance he had given to a clearly murderous Spider-Man) that would created an insurmountable rift between Bruce and Dick, leading the Dynamic Duo to split-up by year's end.

Spider-Man has recovered from that dark point in his life, and has a new love in his life in the form of Mary-Jane Watson. The girl-next-door of his high school nerd days, whom he had long crushed over, but never dared to talk to. They had met up after graduation and became friends just prior to 9/11, and it was with MJ's help that Peter truly moved past his grief for Gwen. They fell in love during that recovery, and were married in the summer of 2005.

Their first daughter, named Gwendolyn May Parker, was born on May 1, 2006. Much to her parent's relief shows May no signs of developing her father's spider-powers, although the two share a birthday which inspired her middle name. Although "May Day" is rather prone to making enough trouble to make many think it's simply an apt nickname.

Though lacking in directed training, Spider-Man is one of the more experienced superheroes in North America. He has worked with virtually everyone in the superhero community at one time or another. Due to this experience, he has beaten foes with far greater powers and abilities. His fighting style is purely freestyle, which incorporates his speed, agility, strength and spider-sense. A very large part of his combat ability is improvisation and using his wits to out-think his opponents. One constant is his habit of using jokes, puns and insults. This not only causes his adversaries to become angry and distracted, but it also helps Spider-Man deal with any fears or doubts that he might have during a battle.

Batgirl III wrote: Sat Feb 11, 2017 8:29 am I've always envisioned it as the pair of them being too much alike to get along.

That's much how I've seen them all in interacting in a shared universe. I envision Thor and Superman getting along well but Clark and Stark not seeing eye-to-eye at all. I can see Wonder Woman and Janet Van Dyne being good friends, but Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel butting heads for a lot for the same reasons that Bruce and Steve do.
Me fail English? That's unpossible. - Ralph Wiggum

TIMELINE

The History Earth-III in Brief

DAWN OF TIME

BEFORE ALL ELSE The Endless come into existence. They appear in order: Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delight.

c. 20,000,000,000 B.C. The current universe is created.

c. 20,000,000,000 B.C. At exactly one Planck time unit (roughly 10^−43 seconds) after the creation of the universe The Great Time War ends. Only one Time Lord survives and he remains the only being -— short of the Endless — to know when in the distant future it will have begun.

c. 18,000,000,000 B.C. GodWorld is formed.

c. 17,000,000,000 B.C. Life begins to evolve on GodWorld.

c. 15,000,000,000 B.C. The eldritch beings on the GodWorld who would become known as the Old Gods fight a series of titanic wars.

BILLIONS OF YEARS AGO

c. 10,000,000,000 B.C. The GodWorld is destroyed in a great war. The Old Gods are killed, and the Godwave is unleashed on the universe. This creates the forces in the universe (e.g, the metagene, magic, etc.) that will allow certain superpowers to work.

c. 9,999,999,999 B.C. The remains of Godworld form the twin planets Genesis and Apokolips. Only two of the Old Gods survive, one who will come to be called All-Father (also known as Rao, Zeus, Krom, Odin, etc.) and one whom will come to be know as Darkseid (or Thanatos, Hastuur, Chronos, Ragnarok, etc.). Each of them will create a society of New Gods in their own image. The New Gods are effectively immortal and if killed through violence will, eventually, be reborn on their homeworld. These two soceities form the basis of every known pantheon in the universe and their constant battles against each other frequently result in mutual annihilation.

c. 5,000,000,000 B.C. The first sentinet species evolve on the planets of Kyrpton (Kryptonians), Oa (Oans), Goa'ri (Goa'uld), and Skrullos (Skrull). In time they would come to be collectivly known as The Eternals. Each of these incredibly long-lived races is identiffied with a certain cosmic tennant: Oans - Order, Skrulls - Chaos, Kryptonians - Justice, and the Goa'uld - Self-Interest. In the modern era, very few Eternals remain and they interact with the galaxy mostly through pawns and proxys.

c. 5,000,000,000 B.C. A fifth sentient species evolves, but remains hidden from the other Eternals on the planet Gallifrey, their ruling caste are known as the Time Lords. On the whole their society is dedicated to neutrality and non-interference. As the first species in the known cosmos to develop time travel, their history is largely unrecordable by any outsiders.

c. 4,900,000,000 B.C. The great-link of liquiform Skrulls on their homeworld becomes self-aware and devours its own biome, this Supreme Intelligence is now worshipped by all Skrulls. It wanders the galaxy seeking new worlds to consume and is feared by all as Galactus.

c. 4,500,000,000 B.C. Kryptionian scientists seed most habitable worlds in our galaxy with interstellar travel devices known as Stargates.

c. 4,500,000,000 B.C. Goa'uld geneticists successfully engineer a means by which their may use their natural parasitic abilites on nearly any species, not just the few they had naturally evolved to inhabit. The Oans' physical frailty makes using them unsuitable, Skrull shapeshiting using makes them impossible, but the physical might of Kryptonians is considered ideal. The Goa'uld and Kryptonians are soon locked into bitter war.

c. 4,000,000,000 B.C. The Oans now known as The Guardians of Order declare themselves to be the keepers of cosmic law throughout the universe. They bind all the wild magic in the universe into the M'Kron Crystal at the farthest edge of our galaxy.

c. 3,900,000,000 B.C. The Skrulls consider the Guardians' obsession with enforcing order a grave threat. The Skrulls worship change, dynamism, and chaos. These two Eternal races begin a rivalry that will last for billions of years.

c. 3,900,000,000 B.C. The Krpytonians form an elite fighting force that uses advanced technology to retain yellow-sun energy anywhere. They are dedicated to combating the Goa'uld and will come to be known as the Eradicators.

c. 3,000,001,000 B.C. The Guardians create the Manhunter Androids to serve as their agents. However, they eventually rebel against their masters having been corrupted by the Skrulls.

c. 3,000,000,000 B.C. The Guardians replace the Manhunters with living agents, the Green Lantern Corps.

c. 1,000,000,000 B.C. The Green Lantern Corps and the Eradicators drive the Goa'uld out of our galaxy. This heroic success comes to be known in the Book of Oa as The Brightest Day.

ANCIENT TIMES

c. 64,000,000 B.C. The dinosaurs on Earth go extinct... Mostly.

c. 50,000 B.C. The Cro-Magnon hunter, Vandar Adg gains immortality from exposure to a strange meteor, setting him on the path to becoming the evil Vandal Savage.

c. 30,000 B.C. The first homo sapiens man, known today as Adam, is born. He will become a leader among early humans.

c. 30,000 B.C. The Guardians of the Universe finally conquer the Skrull Empire, and perform an act of mass genetic tampering with the species, giving them a weakness to fire, rendering them mortal, sundering their empire, and scattering them across the galaxy. Several billion of them are exiled/marooned on Mars.

c. 20,000 B.C. A plague wipes out most of the Martian-Skrull race, the few who remain are reduced from a Post-Atomic Age civilization to a Bronze Age level of technology within a few centuries.

c. 20,000 B.C. A great civilization, rich in both magic and technology, forms on the outer edges of space near the M'Kron Crystal. This civilization evolves rapidly, and comes to call itself the Shi'ar Empire.

c. 15,000 B.C. The Green Lantern Corps discovers the use of magic by the Shi'ar, and is dispatched en masse by the Guardians to put an end to this new threat to cosmic order. Seeking to draw more and more energy from the M'Kron Crystal the Shi'Ar accidentally destroy it, releasing a beaing of pure chaotic energy which they identify with their most sacred deity, the Phoenix.

c. 14,999 B.C. The Phoenix Force decimates the Green Lantern Corps, destroys most the Guardians of Oa, and generally wreaks havoc as magic returns the universe. This devastating war comes to be known in the Book of Oa as The Darkest Night.

c. 10,000 B.C. The Goa'uld, who had conquered their new home of the Pegasus Galaxy millions of years earlier, have remained in isolation ever since. For unknown reasons, they now begin their slow jounrey into this galaxy. They are held at bay by their Eternal rivals, the Kryptonians, and the few remaining Green Lanterns. They do establish a foothold on the spinward rim of our galaxy, a divided empire ruled by feuding System Lords.

THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO / THE MYTHIC AGE

c. 1,000 B.C. To protect the Amazons from persecution, a faction of the New Gods known as the Olympians transport the warrior-women to the island of Themyscira.

c. 500 C.E. In the early 6th century Merlin the Magician gives the Once and Future King, Arthur Pendragon, magical equipment and instructon. King Arthur founds Camelot and forms the Round Table ushering in the Mythic Age. The evil Morgan Le Fay destroys Camelot, imprissons Merlin in the Rock of Eternity, and is herself trapped in the Otherworld.

EARLY 20th CENTURY / THE GOLDEN AGE

1924: The first public debut of mutants, when an 24 year old American scientist, Prof. Charles Xavier (with assitance from his German counter-part Dr. Erik Lensherr) publsihes a paper on their discovery of the metagene. The world at large reacts with fear and loathing at the thought "Xavier's New Men." Newspapers across Europe and America denounce these "x-men" as freaks of nature. In Germany, the National Socialist Party adds mutants to their lists of untermensch ("subhumans").

1938: Throughout the interwar period, the U.S. Government had been secretly developing a project to create super soldiers to fight in future wars, but in its final days it is sabotaged by a Nazi agent and the full formula was lost. Only one soldier, Steve Rogers, was given the full super soldier treatment. Rogers was given the secret identity of Captain America to be a morale-boosting symbol. Other nations across the globe engage in super soldier research projects at this time, including Nazi Germany.

December 7, 1941: The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor brings the U.S. into the Second World War.

1942: When America entered the war, President Roosevelt himself arranges for several "mystery men" of the Allied Nations to form a team called The Invaders, to perform missions inside "Fortress Europe" behind enemy lines against the Axis Powers. Several costumed villains have important roles among the Axis and conflicts between the groups are the stuff of legend. Most infamous amongst the Axis super-villains are the Nazi Super Soldier code-named Red Skull, Italy's Baron Blood (actually Vandal Savage operating under an alias), and Japan's Silver Samurai.

April 30, 1845 Adolf Hitler commits suicide in a bunker beneath Berlin.

May 8, 1945: V-E Day, the Allies formally accept the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany.

August 2, 1945: V-J Day, the Empire of Japan formally surrenders in a ceremony performed in Tokyo Bay, aboard the battleship USS Missouri.

MID 20th CENTURY / THE INTERREGNUM

1951: Due to rapidly escalating cold war tensions between the USSR and the West, the United States government forms the covert organization S.H.E.I.L.D. to fill the gap left by the departing heroes. The British govenment follows suit with the creation of CHECKMATE. The Soviet Union responds in the creation of HYDRA.

1952: The Invaders disband, after being persecuted under McCarthyist paranoia. Superhero activity declines (but doesn't totally disappear) afterwards. Most historians see this as the end of the Golden Age of Heroics.

1953: Rao the anceint star of the planet Krypton explodes. The Kryptonian scientist Jor-El manages to save his baby son, Kal-El, by sending him to Earth through a transdimensional gateway. The planet's remains become kryptonite. The cosmic energy wave released travels across the galaxy at tremendous speeds, passing through Earth's solar system a mere decade later.

1953: Distressed by the McCarthyist "Red Scare," the post-war persecution of homosexuals like their friend Alan Turing, and still alarmed by by the abuses of science carried out by all sides during the war a new political party is born. Founded by Howard Stark, Robert Oppenheimer, Lionel Luthor, and Thomas Wayne. The Scientific Liberty Party are soon dubbed "Technocrats" in the popular press.

MID 20th CENTURY / THE SILVER AGE

November 1, 1963: Doctor Reed Richards, his fiancée Dr. Susan Storm, and their companions Johnny Storm and Capt. Ben Grimm are expossed to cosmic energy cast off by the death of Krytpon during a scientific space mission. The metagenes of all four activate, and they gain fantastic superhuman powers and become the adventurers known popularly as The Fantastic Four. The "FF" are cited by most historians as the beginning of the Silver Age of Heroics.

1965: Bruce Wayne is born to Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne.

1965: Kal-El arrives on the outsirks of a small Kansas farm, Jonathan and Martha Kent find him. They adopt him and name him Clark Kent.

1970: Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, yearns for a child and prays to the gods to grant her wish. During an intense hurricane, American pilot Steve Trevor is forced to crash land on the hidden island. He is the first outsider to arrive in nearly 3,000 years. Hippolyta takes him as a husband and consort.

1973: A mugger murders Thomas and Martha Wayne in what will come to be known as "Crime Alley" in Chicago. Their son Bruce swears to fight a war on crime. The killer is never caught.

1975: Hippolyta gives birth to the first Amazon child, whom she names Diana. In a closely guarded secret, known only to the Queen and her Consort, a twin brother is born. Steve Trevor flees Themscria with the male infant.

LATE 20th CENTURY / THE BRONZE AGE

1981: Peter Parker is born.

1982: Dick Grayson is born, the youngest son of the famous Flying Graysons aerialists.

1983: After twenty years of adventure, the Fantastic Four announce their retirement.

1984: Peter Parker's parents are killed in an auto accident, he is taken in by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben.

1985: A group of super-powered heroes operating in New York City's Harlem and Hell's Kitchen neighborhoods, consisting of Power Man, Black Lightning, Iron Fist, Hawk and Dove appear. They call themselves The Defenders but due to a habit of accpeting donations from the neighborhoods they protect are smeared in the media as "Heroes for Hire."

1985: Bruce Wayne begins his training in a variety of disciplines.

THE MODERN AGE

1990: HYDRA discovers a Kryptonian Stargate in Egypt, the device is captured by SHIELD before HYDRA can unlock its secrets.
