I expected you to do something awesome with those cloned Stunticons and you really did not disappoint.

The concepts and individual weapons are awesome !

You note they can combine with a Stunticon leader... do you envision the combiner being different as a result ?

Heh, thanks. I try to do these Transformers builds in the style of Gen1 Fact Files, with distinct powers and personality quirks for every Transformer, no matter how minor they are.

Not really, Menasor doesn't have a personality, he's just Motormaster having a blazing row with his troops who are refusing to cooperate. Even Crashtest I regard as being too simple-minded to be able to do more than lurch at the Autobots when in combined form. All the Stunticons cars are too stupid and petty to be able to contain their dislike of their supposed leaders and function properly when combined.

The tribe of the Antlaars are a squad of Autobot warriors that operate out of a base within the Arctic Circle in northern Finland, in a covert agreement with that nation's government. They protect the Arctic and northern Scandinavian regions from Decepticon raiding. Their secret base is provided by an eccentric Autobot technician who manufactures large quantities of supplies for the Autobot war effort and employs the Antlaar's to haul them in sky sleds to waiting Autobot transport shuttles for distribution around the world.

The leader of this small force of peculiar Autobots is Flashfreeze, their chieftain. Back on Cybertron he and his people were half-feral Transformers, having the alt-mode of Cybertronian mecha-animals and living out in the remote wildernesses of the planet. They were recruited for the crew of the Ark as spacegoing transport troops, there to haul the shattered debris of destroyed asteroids out of the way as the Ark and the Autobots blasted a clear path for Cybertron to pass through the Sol system's asteroid belt. They fought fiercely in defense of the Ark when it was boarded and were disabled for four million years along with the other Autobots and Decepticons when Optimus set the ship to crash on Earth.

When the Autobot technicians got around to reviving the Antlaars they immediately deployed themselves to the remote Arctic regions of Earth, a place almost absent of the teeming human population. The Antlaars dislike being crowded, by any other form of life, needing large areas to roam unimpeded. They trek endlessly round and round the Arctic circle, keeping watch for Decepticon activity in the region. All of them are flight capable, though at a low speed. To conserve fuel though they mostly get around on foot in their reindeer alt-modes, being capable of moving over the roughest of terrain at speed for immense distances.

Flashfreeze is a powerful and fierce warrior. He and his people favor fighting in close, most of their guns are mounted on their shoulders so they can carry melee weapons in their hands. He uses his grenades to distract the Decepticons as he closes in to attack with his spear. His shield can refract energy beams, bouncing them back at their firer. As a leader he makes little reference to Optimus Prime, carrying on his war in his own way in similar fashion, though on a much smaller scale, as Grimlock.

Lovestruck fights mostly at range rather than in melee like the other Antlaars. She acts as their fire support, expertly picking off Decepticons to let her comrades close on the enemy. Her special arrows can phase through normal matter to hit a target trying to take cover. As a fembot she is a new creation, having been built since the Antlaars came to Earth and learned of the concept of 'female'. Sometimes she goes out hunting by herself, appearing to Decepticon technicians working out in the wilderness and luring them to chase after her by singing and dancing alluringly. They stumble through the deep snow after her, never quite able to catch up. After they are near collapse from having their lubricants and hydraulic fluids frozen she turns and dispatches them with her bow, or a couple of burly Antlaars appear with their weapons and beat the Decepticon into the slush. While shivering in their quarters in their arctic bases Decepticons scare and titillate each other with tales of this beautiful ice spirit.

Poledance is quite unlike her Antlaar sister. She fights directly, freezing Decepticons in place and then hacking them to bits while they lie helpless in the snow. Wherever she goes she brings the winter, leaving a frosting of ice and snow behind her on the ground and tree branches even in the polar summertime. Within the tribe she is one of the lads, being as loud and raucous and just as prone to brawling as the rest of them. During their ritual tribal dances she has the role of the North Pole, occupying the center of the circle while the other male Antlaars chant and whirl around her and Lovestruck plays the flute and drums.

Slay-Belle is a vicious little knife-fighter. Rather than smashing and impaling their foes like the other Antlaars she dances around them while slowly cutting them to death. As her opponent collapses under her knives she flays them alive, giggling maniacally the whole time. The male Antlaars regard her as a bit crazy and are less attracted to her than the other fembot Antlaars. She constantly hums and chirps to herself but rarely actually speaks, preferring to use movement and gesture to communicate with the rest of the tribe. During their tribal dances she plays the bells, shaking them and dancing ecstatically in and out of the ring of male Antlaars.

Slay-Ride is a semi-outcast from the tribe, only associating with the others in ritual fashion at certain times of the year. He spends most of his time at their secret base by himself, or out on his own missions. Why he is outcast is taboo for the tribe's members to speak about. Optimus Prime though thinks that Slay-Ride once killed a fellow Antlaar in a dispute. Flashfreeze has too few warriors to completely cut all ties with him but keeps this notoriously bad-tempered Autobot at a safe distance from the rest of his people. Slay-Ride also seems to have a special relationship with the secret patron of the tribe, often taking the lead position when they are hauling cargo sleds.

Starfall is a brute of an Antlaar, but one with great determination and perception. He can spot the smallest trace of Decepticon activity and track it back to its source. As little as a bent blade of grass can be enough to tip him off. In the deep arctic wilderness of Siberia or northern Canada the ground can lie undisturbed all year so the slightest unusual damage is suspicious and Transformers as giant robots find it very hard to move around without making a mess. He often finds Decepticons for Lovestruck to lure to their doom, often by bringing them to him. The last thing several Decepticons have seen is him looming out of the blizzard swinging his great weapon to smash their heads to fragments. While Flashfreeze treats the Antlaar fembots as his daughters Starfall regards them as his sisters and can be dangerously overprotective of them around Autobots who are not other Antlaars.

Swagger is one of the few Antlaars who has left the tribe and spent time among other Autobots and humans. He suffered some sort of disgrace early on in the tribe's history and was exiled for a period. He returned with new weapons, a great wealth in energon and high-quality spare parts, and many tall tales to tell. Flashfreeze is suspicious of him, suspecting that he has been corrupted by contact with outsiders and that he does not have the proper reverence for the tribal hierarchy and their ritual ways anymore. Swagger is by Antlaar standards a loudmouth, always speaking his mind in conversational fashion rather than quoting traditional tribal wisdom. He prefers to remain aloof from the frequent antler fights, regarding it as uncivilized and not how Autobots should behave. Lovestruck has become very taken by him and his new ways, she desires to see the wonders of Autobot City, to speak with great Autobots such as the legendary Optimus Prime, and to dance and play her instruments to a new audience. Some of the male Antlaars are becoming hostile to this budding relationship for various reasons of their own beyond Flashfreeze's concerns about the welfare of the tribe as a whole.

Thaw is Flashfreeze's most loyal 'bot, always at his chief's shoulder to back him up and enforce his orders. He is immensely proud of the tribe and dislikes hearing any talk of outsiders and their ways, always saying how Antlaar ways are clearly the best. He is however rather stupid and understands their complex ritual life and beliefs rather poorly. When he tries to quote tribal wisdom he nearly always gets it wrong. Most of the time he settles for nodding and affirming anything Flashfreeze says, no matter how trivial. While the other Antlaars are protective or desirous of the Antlaar fembots he is suspicious of them, they never had such Transformers back on Cybertron and he doesn't like how they distract Flashfreeze's attention away from him. He sometimes attempts to instruct them in proper Antlaar ways but they just ignore him, mockingly point out how he is talking nonsense and mangling their own beliefs, or threaten him with violence for his insolence. The other male Antlaars treat him with condescension, regarding him as no more than an extension of their chief and not worth speaking to in his own right. About the only time Thaw gets any respect is in battle against the Decepticons where he is genuinely capable for once.

Thunderhoof sees himself as second-in-command of the Antlaars and often gets himself appointed to lead subgroups of the tribe. The others are mostly happy to go along with this, letting him take the responsibility. Secretly Thunderhoof wants to have a new batch of Antlaars designed and built so he can become leader of his own tribe, he is fed up with only ever doing what Flashfreeze tells him to. The only other existing Antlaar he wants to join him in this new tribe he is dreaming of is Lovestruck, who he has been in love with ever since she was built. She used to tease and flirt with him a lot but since Swagger returned she has been spending all her free time with him, and in battle she directs her support mostly to him when she used to favor him. Thunderhoof is seething with jealousy over this and is now plotting to get rid of Swagger, perhaps permanently. He has been sounding out Starfall about this, he knows the ruthless killer doesn't like Lovestruck associating with outsiders, and also with Thaw who regards Swagger and his outsider ways with horror. He is still unsure of how Flashfreeze would react, it was the chief's judgment to send Swagger away and then allow him back. Slay-Belle is too spaced out to care and he discounts Poledance's opinion, and Slay-Ride isn't really part of the tribe at all.

If Thunderhoof makes a move to enact his schemes it may split the tribe apart, with potentially disastrous results. Even if they don't end up destroying themselves with infighting Optimus Prime does not tolerate his Autobots fighting among themselves, that is something Decepticons do and they will not become like their enemies. He could forcibly disband the Antlaars and send them to serve in different theaters of war all across the Earth, completely destroying their ancient tribal culture.

The sinister Soundwave was built in the Cybertron city-state of Tarn not long before that city's destruction. He was the creation of Shockwave, the new Military Commander of the city. The paranoid Shockwave saw spies and traitors everywhere in the city he himself had been created to protect and he needed a suitable Transformer to root them out. Soundwave was made as the city Communications Controller, responsible for the flow of all information into, out of and around the city and its colonial possessions. In short he was the chief of secret police, directing censorship, propaganda and the arrest without proper trial or counsel of anyone Shockwave wanted getting rid of. He oversaw the detention and interrogation of many loyal citizens of Tarn, often resorting to torture if they resisted his mind reading abilities. Hardly any of them were guilty of the charges made against them, but innocence was no defense. Shockwave wanted confessions and the implication of others and Soundwave delivered without conscience or remorse. The arrests escalated into a terrifying purge, with almost every Transformer of rank built in Tarn before Shockwave took over falling under suspicion and being taken away. Shockwave had the upper echelons of Tarn society, its military, bureaucracy and cultural life, replaced with more obedient drones like Soundwave.

Soundwave saw the disaster the Vos-Tarn war was going to end in and made sure to save his own hide. He was in a secure bunker on the outskirts of the city, ostensibly torturing prisoners taken from Vos, when the photon missile hit and incinerated Tarn. In secret he had been diverting any prisoners taken from Vos away from the torture chambers and into secret prisons of his own. After the cataclysmic end of the war he freed them and offered them a new position under his leadership, presuming at the time that Shockwave had perished with the city. When he found out that Shockwave had survived he was terrified, his paranoid leader would never forgive his presumption at setting up his own power base. Soundwave always has an out however and he chose to swear allegiance to another leader rising from the ashes of the war, Megatron. With his forces joined to Megatron's growing army Shockwave was no danger to him anymore, and indeed his old boss soon had to swallow his pride and submit to Megatron himself.

Soundwave under Megatron served him the same way he had Shockwave. He was responsible for much of the secret propaganda that persuaded millions of disgruntled Transformers from across Cybertron to discard the ancient way of the Autobot and become one of Megatron's new ideology, the Decepticons. As well he was crucial in keeping the growth and armament of the Decepticons secret from the rest of Cybertron, eliminating any Transformer who was thinking of leaving or telling anybody about what was going on in the tunnels beneath the ruins of Vos and Tarn.

On Earth Soundwave is using his many talents against the humans. He does all he can to disrupt human-Autobot relations, producing disinformation and conducting terrorist acts to make the natives of this world frightened and distrustful of all Transformers. For a while he succeeded in convincing much of the human population that the Transformers were mindless robots controlled by a supervillain calling himself 'Robot Master', actually a failed comic book writer recruited by the human governments to try and suppress the terrifying truth that the Transformers are invaders from another world. Recently he has been doing secret deals with some of the Earth's criminal organizations and despotic governments. He guarantees immunity from Decepticon raids in return for payment and them obstructing a coordinated world response to the Decepticon menace. This is weakening the democratic and responsible governments of the world as the Decepticons deliberately target their countries.

In his original Cybertronian configuration Soundwave was a dropship, able to drop in his agents onto a dwelling or workplace to take suspects. For the Autobot-Decepticon was he was uparmored and heavily armed and was often at the forefront of attacks, keeping Megatron appraised of the overall situation and in touch with his subordinates, and on hand to interrogate any prisoners taken. He remains a vital lieutenant to whoever is in command of the Decepticons. No one likes or trusts Soundwave, he has a well-deserved reputation as a ruthless executioner and a self-seeking, treacherous bastard, but he is always in such a high-ranking position that no Decepticon can touch him. The various Decepticon leaders he has served under view him the same way, but they simply cannot do without his skills. Whoever Soundwave is supporting always comes out on top in their internecine power struggles. At times he has served as interim Decepticon leader, despite their dislike of him he is clearly the most competent of them and the only real alternative if the big leaders such as Megatron or Shockwave are not around. Soundwave himself knows that he is an inferior Transformer to Megatron or Shockwave, both mentally and physically, and chooses to enjoy power and privilege by manipulating them and making himself indispensable. He deliberately stokes their paranoia by keeping them distrustful of every Decepticon under their command with false rumors and accusations.

Buzzsaw was one of Soundwave's agents back on Cybertron. From his perch or flying over the city he spied on suspects as they went about their business. At a command from Soundwave he could swoop down to shear off their head with his razor-sharp cutting beak. No-one was safe, you could be killed at any moment. While intelligent Buzzsaw almost never speaks and most of the time acts a lot like a half-tame bird of prey. He often perches on the shoulder of a Decepticon leader, able to swoop down at his word of command. Many Decepticons who have given unfavorable reports or spoken slightly out of turn have had bits sliced off them by him. When not out murdering someone he acts as a prison guard, taking station on the roof in his defense platform alt-mode, keeping a watch out for rescue missions or attempted escapes.

Frenzy was originally built as a police nonlethal riot dispersal weapon. His high-frequency sonics induce panic in those who hear them, causing angry rioters to simply run away without the tiresome necessity of hitting them with clubs. The technology was invented by the same Transformer scientist who built Dirge's special ability, Sinister. Frenzy loves seeing other Transformers affected by fear and he eagerly became a Decepticon, betraying his creator. Sinister never stops hunting Frenzy and is determined to destroy his rogue creation. In mockery of the role for which he was built Frenzy has kept his old police colors. Other Decepticons regard him as a boastful little twit and have no respect for his special ability, they induce real fear by blowing up Autobots, not cheating by fooling them with a pathetic nonlethal weapon.

Laserbeak is another of Soundwave's secret police agents. His role was as a torturer. Soundwave can read the minds of most Transformers but the most powerful can resist his mind scans. Also some Transformers, such as couriers of vital information, have their minds encrypted (this is not routinely done as it eats up computer runtime and slows a Transformer's mental processing considerably). With his high-performance ruby crystal lasers he can slice apart a Transformer in the most painful way possible without killing them. Like his brother Buzzsaw he is mostly feral, interested in little other than tormenting helpless victims and hunting down those who run. When not doing something horrible to someone he serves as a prison guard, guarding against air attack on prisons and interrogation centers.
