Nearly all Dinobots are skilled melee fighters and masters of the energon sword. The energon sword is a very ancient Transformer weapon, dating from far back in their history when Transformers had yet to invent efficient ranged weapons and mostly fought with blades and maces. The energon sword draws its power not from an internal power supply but instead directly from the Transformer wielding it. For most Transformers the energy requirements of using such a weapon makes it too draining to use more than very briefly but the Dinobots have a large internal fuel capacity and can take the strain. Slash has turned up the energon output of his sword to alarmingly high levels. This makes it an even more devastating weapon but it can overheat and become soft and weak if he uses it for too long, resulting in the blade being damaged or broken in combat. As a smaller than average Dinobot it also drains him much faster than usual for them, leaving him dangerously low on fuel in combat before long. He is a very skilled swordsman however, matched by only a few other Dinobots and exceeded only by Grimlock himself.

I really like the personality and backstory you're giving the Dinobots. It's no secret that f-for-feasant-design is one of my favourite Transformer fan artists, and apart from being the guy to have gone through the S section in the dictionary to name them, I've found it a little overkill sometimes as when i think Dinobots I think the G1 cartoon "dumbed down" versions. Then came the War for Cybertron versions which he expanded upon, and with your touches and tweaks, well, Transform and Roll Out - or Transform and Curbstomp if you prefer !

Here's a question though. Do you consider Trypticon to be a Decepticon-loyal Dinobot ? Either way he must tick off Grimlock !

Trypticon isn't a dinosaur, he's Godzilla ;) .

I know what you mean though. The Autobots and Decepticons often have equivalent types of Transformer, especially when Hasbro started doing Autobot and Decepticon versions of every gimmick they came up with. I don't think Grimlock would therefore take any particular offense to a dinosaur-like Decepticon. Trypticon's no more a Dinobot than the Aerialbots are Seekers. Being a Dinobot is a design philosophy and attitude more than having a dinosaur alt-mode (a lot of Dinobots in any case strictly speaking don't have a dinosaur alt-mode according to the scientific definition of dinosaur).

Slather spits a particularly nasty acidic goop that stick to the target and reacts with their surface to form corrosive metal salts. It only stops reacting when it has dissolved enough material to form an oxidized layer between it and the unfortunate it has splashed on. If another Transformer touches it, such as in attempt to wipe it off, it will start up reacting again on them. Wheeljack devised this weapon but Optimus Prime has been reluctant to authorize it for combat use it is so nasty and he fear the Decepticons making use of it in turn. Grimlock has no such qualms or concerns, he gleefully employs every vicious weapon he can get his hands on for his Dinobots. The inherent hazards in producing and storing the lethal stuff, along with Slather's chronic carelessness with this fantastically dangerous substance, has deterred even Grimlock from making wider use of it though.

So far no Dinobot has ever defected to the Decepticons, but there are some under suspicion for their excessively brutal ways that edge over into sadism. The main reason none have betrayed their side as yet seems to be that the Decepticons have nothing to offer a potentially renegade Dinobot that they cannot get from their existing organization. While regular Autobots lead hard lives of heavy work loads on strictly rationed fuel the Dinobots love fighting but despise any form of productive labor. They employ lowly menial Transformers and drones to do it all for them, and award themselves ample fuel rations. The Dinobots incur a massive fuel bill as their huge bodies require a lot of energy. Also while Optimus requires his warriors to fight in a restrained and humane fashion Grimlock demands uncontrolled savagery in battle. He has kicked out a number of Dinobots for not being brutal enough.

The main issue Grimlock and Swoop have with Slaughter is that he spends too much time messing about with his own entertainments rather than getting on with winning the battle. Other Dinobots are also losing respect for him because he targets already disabled Decepticons rather than moving on to a fresh target. Dinobots rate each other by how many Decepticons you take out or bases you destroy, not on how inventively cruel you can be. If he did defect the Dinobots are likely to go berserk and hunt him down, the Dinobots are fanatical about their loyalty to Grimlock and just being Dinobots.

Slayer as a Dinobot is a bit different in his armament and fighting style in robot mode to their usual way. He distracts Decepticons over a wide area with his fragmentation rockets then charges in behind his shields, which act as both a defense and a weapon. For a Dinobot he is silent and creepy, normally they are loud and boisterous. Instead of shoving to the front and seeking to show off like most of them do he lurks at the back, watching everyone else. While this has made him an object of suspicion for some other Dinobots it could just be that he is naturally quiet and shy, even retiring. This is so unlike most Dinobots that they may not understand it. His social reticence does not extend to battle, where he is as enthusiastic about taking out Decepticons as any other DInobot, except without the accompanying bellowing or loud boasting. As they say 'it's always the quiet ones'.

Slice is all about speed, he cuts fast and shoots fast. This complements the ponderous massiveness of some of the other aquatic Dinobots. They bludgeon into the direct attack while he picks off individual Decepticons, often while they are attempting to flee the massive jaws of something like Salvo. He is unusual in that his alt-mode does not even have jaws, the long snout is actually a torpedo tube since he fights with his razor-sharp fins instead. He is also much less reluctant to fight on land than other aquatic Dinobots as he is confident in his armament and fighting skill in robot mode.

The stuff Slime spits is not actually grease according to strict chemical definitions, it is instead a special substance devised by Wheeljack originally intended for use as a super-lubricant. It spreads rapidly across any surface it touches, especially smooth metallic ones such as the exterior shell of a Transformer, forming an extremely thin non-stick coating. The action by which it works is electromagnetic rather than chemical, it consists of tiny, dust-like particles that hover just above a surface using electrostatic adhesion. The electrical charge it generates then repels any other metallic surface. The effect is something like trying to press together the same poles of two magnets, an invisible, frictionless force field keeps them apart. Removing the stuff is very difficult since it doesn't brush off and no solvent short of a strong acid can dissolve it, you generally have to wait until its electrical charge runs down.

A Transformer hit by Slime's 'grease' usually falls over as the stuff spreads to the soles of their feet and across nearby floors and walls. Also they usually drop their weapon as it and their hands become coated with it. As it coats them completely their joints become hyper-lubricated and they lose control of their limbs, flailing their arms and legs wildly as they move without friction, throwing off their normal motor controls. This looks hilarious to the Dinobots, who sometimes laugh so hard at the comical sight that they almost forget to blast the unfortunate Decepticon. Slime himself rarely finishes off those so disabled, preferring to carry on spitting at new targets and leaving his comrades to deal with them. He's so used to gobbing all over the Decepticons that he's actually a rotten shot with a rifle, resorting to using a grenade launcher in robot mode to conceal this.

Many Dinobots like the natural world of the Earth and move through it with much greater facility than other Transformers who have vehicular alt-modes. The Decepticons sometimes build their bases deep in swamps and other such locations in order to make it more difficult for the generally wheeled Autobots to approach them. They themselves just fly in and out. Slobber lurks near to such bases, waiting for Decepticons to come out and flounder in the muck as they perform necessary work around their bases periphery. He floats just beneath the surface, just his eyes and snout protruding, then when he gets close enough bursts from the murky water with his massive jaws. The copious drool he produces is actually a highly reactive substance that dissolves metal. If the Decepticon has allies nearby he will often bite and release, then watch as the stuff gets all over the other Decepticons and dissolves them too as they try to help. He then hauls himself out of the water and makes a feast of them. This swampland terror is so menacing that Decepticon technicians sometimes have to be driven out of their base at gunpoint and then locked out and not allowed back in until their work is done.

A large and slow, both mentally and physically, Dinobot. Unlike most of the Dinobots Sludge is actually nice and likes humans, but as cute critters rather than friendly intelligent beings. He tends to fixate on particular humans and follow them around, particularly youthful females. If not for Grimlock keeping an eye on him he would be inclined to try and take his latest obsession as a pet. Humans vociferously object to being picked up and carried around by a giant robot who ignores their demands to put them down.

When not mooning over his current crush Sludge is still a Dinobot and enjoys crushing Decepticons. His ground slams are as violent as a large bomb going off and devastate the whole surrounding area. If he gets in among the Decepticons he can wreak mass slaughter. The drawback though is the massive area damage he does, reducing the locality to rubble. Even the Dinobots admit that Sludge is too destructive to use in many areas of the Earth since even out in open country he leaves a battlefield covered in massive craters.

Slug so rarely leaves the Malevolent Fist that most of the other Dinobots have forgotten about him. He hasn't transformed into his alt-mode in years as he has never had reason to do so. Getting so obsessed with a task is a common phenomenon with Transformers, they don't have the distractions of organic creatures since they don't experience food, relationships or sex. It is especially common with the less intelligent Transformers since they are closer to actually being robots than more intelligent Transformers. A lot of Decepticons are this way, having no interests outside of waging war. In some ways many Transformers are actually less intelligent than humans, they just do their jobs and never think deeply about anything. When asked by humans why they are fighting the war they are often stumped for an explanation beyond the conflict between Autobots and Decepticons just being what is.

The big sauropod form Dinobots rely chiefly on their sheer size for their fighting power. Smack has the advantage that he doesn't wreck the whole area since he doesn't hit the ground to generate shockwaves like the others. Instead he directly smacks Decepticons with his long tail and neck, bowling them over as he spins around on the spot. He still destroys anything standing nearby but at least he doesn't open chasms in the ground, knock buildings off their foundations and start landslides. For all their awesome destructive potential none of these big Dinobots revel in it, they are actually gentle giants and are far more careful of collateral damage than any of the other Dinobots. Some Transformers think that their alt-modes influence them in this regard, the sauropods are some of the few dinosaurs that did not evolve powerful jaws, horns or spikes to fight with.

Smelt's chassis is actually adapted from a scrap-picking machine, it swept the ground for loose bits of metal and melted them down in a small internal smelting pool. Wheeljack fitted legs onto it in place of the previous tracks and styled it to look like a Dinosaur and Grimlock had a new Dinobot. Quite a lot of Wheeljack's new Transformer designs are actually repurposings of all sorts of machinery into a new Transformer. At times it is quite obvious where their components came from, scavenged junk that Wheeljack had hauled back to his workshop. When not fighting Decepticons Smelt instinctively reverts to his original machine programming, the software having been left in his computer brain. He 'grazes' fields of wrecked metal, such as junkyards or old battlefields, sweeping his great neck from side to to side and sieving out great quantities of fragmented metal with his comb-like teeth. If he doesn't have cause to gob this at Decepticons in battle he deposits it behind himself as refined ingots, which Autobot service drones scoop up and transport back to Wheeljack.
