I really like the idea of The Tong in LD,Skeletor could always use some "friendly competition" 
I was always a fan of Big Trouble in Little China and loved Carpenter's take on Oriental Myth......You ARE going to have an Egg Shin and/or Jack Burton involved here,right? You already got a Wang Chi in Gram.......

I think it will be more clear in the next entry, but the Tongs work for the Skull. All the "official" gangs on LD owe him fealty, but none of them are too happy about that.
There's no mystic stuff in this setting, so I steered clear of any Big Trouble in Little China material, although that's a favorite movie of mine, too. Did you know that Jack Burton is a member of the Blue Blazer Society from the Buckaroo Banzai movie? "Big Trouble" is kind of an unofficial sequel to that. If only "universes" were big in 80s films like they are now.
