BACKGROUND
Real Name: N’Kantu
Occupation: Warrior-King, slave, adventurer, soul-collector
Legal Status: Member of the Swarili Tribe of Egypt
Identity: Known
Other Known Aliases: The Mummy
Place of Birth: Egypt
Marital Status: Widower
Known Relatives: T’Chombi (father, deceased), V’Leema (wife, deceased)
Base of Operations: None
Past Group Affiliations: Legion of Monsters, Shock Troop, Howling Commandos
Present Group Affiliation: None

KNOWN POWERS
Revenant: The alchemical formula that Nephrus subjected him to has granted N'Kantu various superhuman attributes:
  • Body Armor: The process that made N’Kantu a mummy also gave him super-tough skin that acts as Remarkable (30) body armor.
  • Environmental Independence: Sustained completely by the life-preserving fluid in his veins, the Living Mummy no longer needs to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep. He could easily survive in many places where an ordinary human would be killed instantly, He no longer ages.
LIMITATIONS
Because of N’Kantu’s dependence (prior to possessing the Orb of Ra) on the special fluid that substitutes for his blood, any damage he takes from heat or fire gains a +1CS due to the effects of dehydration on the fluid. It is not yet known if N’Kantu could be killed by such attacks or would simply remain unconscious until the fluid had regenerated itself. Now that N’Kantu possesses the Orb of Ra, he is no longer dependent on the fluid.

N’Kantu can speak only with great difficulty since his throat is completely dry.

EQUIPMENT:
Orb of Ra: The Orb has the power to raise and bind the dead. It can be used to summon and dismiss demons. When in the possession of N’Kantu, it grants him CL1000 immunity to fire.

TALENTS: Weapons Specialist (Spear), Mystic Background, Occult Lore, Languages (Swarili, Egyptian, English),

CONTACTS: Legion of Monsters; Howling Commandos

HISTORY
The story of the Living Mummy begins some three thousand years ago in ancient Egypt. During the reign of Pharaoh Aram-Set, Egypt enslaved hundreds of Sub-Saharan Africans belonging to the Swarili tribe. Among them was the Swarili chieftain, N'Kantu.

N'Kantu was the son of the warrior chief T'Chombi. By the age of twenty-one, N'Kantu endured a rite of passage known as the Test of the Lion. By single-handedly slaying a lion, he proved his mettle to the Swarili, and was considered a warrior. Upon T'Chombi's death in his sleep seven months later, N'Kantu succeeded him as chieftain.

Many months later, the armies of Aram-Set raided the Swarili villages, capturing hundreds of natives and pressing them into bondage. Being the strongest and heartiest among the Swarili, N'Kantu's lot was the hardest. He was kept in chains and forced to endure great hardship and labor. Aram-Set tried his hardest to break N'Kantu's spirit, but the chieftain's strength and resolve, established him as a veritable Moses to his people.

During this time, he ran afoul of the necromancer Rakses. Little is known of what transpired between the two, but they became bitter enemies, and Rakses would remember his old foe for centuries to come.

By night, N’Kantu would gather his tribe together, and raise them from their pain and despair with words of hope, and the promise of escape. Before long, he was ready to shake off the shackles of slavery forever. He led a bloody revolt against the armies of Aram-Set, personally slaying the Pharaoh with a thrust from his spear.

He entered the temple of Aram-Set where he confronted Nephrus, the royal wizard. Nephrus was prepared for N'Kantu's treachery and splashed him with a chemical agent that caused immediate paralysis of N'Kantu's limbs. He brought him down to a private dungeon laboratory where he bound him with linen, and injected him with a special fluid. This fluid granted N’Kantu immortality, but at the price of his mobility. Nephrus sealed him inside of a sarcophagus, promising that he would suffer as a Living Mummy for all eternity.

But moments after Nephrus had entombed N'Kantu, a great earth-quake struck and devastated the temple, killing Nephrus and burying N'Kantu for centuries. Trapped and unable to move, N’Kantu gradually went insane as the centuries slowly passed.

Several years ago, the fluid that kept the Mummy immobile began to wear off, and the crazed N'Kantu clawed his way to freedom. He began terrorizing the streets of Cairo until he came upon the home of archaeologist Doctor Alexi Skarab. There was something about Skarab that seemed familiar to N'Kantu, but it would not be for some time that he would discover that Skarab was actually the descendant of the evil wizard Nephrus. Horrified, Skarab opened fire on the Living Mummy, but this only served to enrage N'Kantu, and he raced back out into the streets and went on a rampage.

The police tracked him down and opened fire on him, but though he found them extremely painful, bullets were barely enough to even slow the Mummy down. He fought back by tearing down a telephone pole, but the resulting backlash of electricity ravaged his body, seemingly killing him. Dr. Skarab took responsibility for the Mummy's re-mains and sold them to Dr. Carroll Harter, the curator of a museum in New York City. At the museum, the Living Mummy revived once again, and broke free of the packing crate that he had been shipped in. He left the museum and began wandering the streets of Manhattan.

He was transported away by the Elementals who sent him to Egypt to recover the Ruby Scarab for them, which brought him into conflict with the thieves Richard "The Asp" Harper and Miles Olddan, who had stolen the Gem, as well as Alexi Skarab once more, who had bought it from them. He broke from their control and then assisted Dr. Skarab and Zephyr in banishing the Elementals, who had taken the city of Cairo hostage under a force field.

During later travels, N'Kantu befriended Ulysses Bloodstone.

N'Kantu later teams up with the Thing and his girlfriend Alicia Masters against General Hassan, another descendant of Nephrus.

The Mummy later joined Shock Troop where they helped Quasar against Quagmire He later got into a fight with a resurrected Rakses and had to team up with Elsa Bloodstone, the daughter of Ulysses Bloodstone. After defeating the villain, N'Kantu spent some time guarding the mystic Orb of Ra. The Mummy then joined Nick Fury's Howling Commandos.

During the Civil War, the Living Mummy was incarcerated after failing to register in compliance with the Superhuman Registration Act. Little is known about the Mummy's activities during this time, but it is known that he is no longer imprisoned.

The Living Mummy has since been approached by the Egyptian Lord of the Underworld, Anubis. Knowing that N'Kantu sought an end to his existence, Anubis agreed to give him a peaceful death, but only after a period of personal servitude. Anubis required the power that comes from human souls to maintain his strength, and assigned N'Kantu the task of bringing him these souls, even if doing so meant committing acts of murder. The Living Mummy agreed to serve Anubis, but vowed that he would only take the souls of evil beings.

Sometime later, N'Kantu joined the Legion of Monsters.

The Mummy was later recruited by Phil Coulson to join his incarnation of the Howling Commandos in order to combat Dormammu's Mindless Plague.

N'Kantu later joined Dracula's Frightful Four to kill Deadpool and bring Shiklah to Dracula. During the confrontation with Deadpool, N'Kantu was set on fire and torn in half when Deapool blasted him with a fire hose.

HISTORY
Llan is an ancient mystical being dedicated to helping humanity destroy itself. He appears on the earthly plane every ten thousand years and it is the duty of the Talisman to battle him.

When he reappeared most recently, he took the form of a super-villain and was forced to face Alpha Flight as well as Talisman. To facilitate his plans, he tricked Talisman into attacking him first. He then trapped Alpha Flight in a maze of dimensions.

Llan had used his powers to manipulate the government of Canada to be extremely negative towards Alpha Flight and to form Gamma Flight. He also used his powers to create various other problems for the heroes, making it harder for them to organize against him.

Llan was finally beaten after Talisman opened the Gateway of Day to counter his opening the Gateway of Night. Alpha Flight, Gamma Flight II and the Canadian military battled the demons that Llan had battled while Talisman faced Llan and Northstar, Aurora, and Doctor Stephen Strange helped Talisman open the door from the other side.

It is unlikely that Llan will be seen any time soon since he is only sup-posed to be able to return to earth every ten thousand years.

HISTORY
Emily Briggs was a mousy bank teller who lived a quiet life with her husband in Gotham City. That all changed when she was kidnapped by people from the underground civilization known as Abyssia. The Outsiders set out to rescue Emily, but after a battle with the people of Abyssia, Emily's heritage as part of their race was revealed to her and as Halley's Comet passed by the Earth, Emily underwent a metahuman transformation to regain her heritage, which in turn made her more conventionally attractive. With her new appearance, Emily also gained special powers and abilities and she started calling herself Looker.

After leaving Abyssia to its people, Emily returned with the Outsiders and an astonished husband. She soon took on the name "Lia" as well as a more confident, yet self-centered, personality.

Emily's first outing as Looker occurred after the Outsiders had been captured by the Masters of Disaster. After defeating the Masters of Disaster, she freed the Outsiders and was welcomed into their ranks.

Her first tenure with the Outsiders showed how much the mousy Emily Briggs had changed, as she became obsessed with her beauty, something that usually created some tension between her and Katana. The tension was only heightened with the budding friendship between Looker and Halo, where the more free-spirited Looker was in sharp contrast with Halo's stricter legal guardian, Katana.

Looker shows a deep current of intelligence, when she defeats an intelligent virus inhabiting her then-friend Doctor Jace. The sentient virus, believing that Looker was injecting Jace with a vaccine to which Jace was allergic, fled the body and died upon contact with the air. The vaccine was in fact, harmless glucose and Looker herself was already immune because she was not allergic. Unfortunately, Jace would later go on to willingly betray the Outsiders to the alien Manhunters.

Looker's role as somewhat of an outsider among Outsiders continued to worsen, especially when Windfall joined, a former Master of Disaster and peer of Halo, and the two were constantly involved in a rivalry of sorts. On top of that, Looker started a short affair with the team-leader Geo-Force during a time that they were stranded on an island but which continued when they returned. Eventually though, there came a mutual decision to call it quits, it being unfair not only to Gregg (Looker's husband) but also to Denise (Geo-Force's girlfriend).

Sometime later, Looker received a call for help from Abyssia. Traveling to the underground city, Looker discovered that Abyssia had been taken over. Looker invoked a challenge on the despot, and in the course of the battle, she was stripped of her beauty and much of her power. Shortly afterwards, Geo-Force disbanded the Outsiders, and Lia returned to her previous life in Gotham City.

Around this time, Looker learned that one of the Outsider's former enemies known as Lady Clay was impersonating her and creating chaos in Gotham. Looker went into action using a new costume to set herself apart from the impostor and she assisted Batman against the Mud Pack, a gathering of all crimi-nals who've used the alias of Clay-face. Looker's assistance was important as she saved Batman's mental health and also stopped Basil Karlo, the original Clayface, once he had become the Ultimate Clay-face, by overloading his powers and causing him to plunge downwards to Earth's core, where he remained trapped for years.

When Geo-Force's homeland Markovia was overrun with vampires, Emily's powers returned, and Look-er was back in action alongside the Outsiders. An attempt by Queen Ioana to kill Geo-Force leads to Looker becoming a victim of their leader, Roderick. Having become a vampire, Looker's existing powers were joined by some new abilities.

The Outsiders are forced to become fugitives, due to Roderick having framed Geo-Force for the murder of Queen Iona. Looker helps the team face many adversaries, including the new Batman, the Eradicator, Halo's alien relatives and Islamic super-terrorists. Once the vampires were defeated and the Outsider's names restored, the team 'unofficially' disbands. They now work solely out of Markovia, which Geo-Force now rules over. Served with divorce papers and now living under the vampiric curse, Lia has apparently broken all ties with her past life.

Lia at some point after this may have cut her ties with her vampire coven as well as she became more independent in her choice of actions. She eventually became one of the hosts of the television program The Scene. Her co-hosts included Vicki Vale, Tawny Young, and Linda Park. Two episodes were shown in which they interviewed Wonder Woman on her career. During taping Lia would wear a scarf around her neck to hide the vampire bite wounds.

Lia was last seen as Looker during the Battle of Metropolis, in which the heroes of the world fought against the assembled army of the Secret Society of Super-Villains. It appeared she was caught up in a massive explosion involving Breach, but she had a telekinetic shield around her body at the time.

She is later shown to have survived the encounter when she briefly aids Batman and the Outsiders in tracking down a mysterious alien conspiracy believed to have something to do with a rogue Parasite from the same universe as the ones who came to Earth during the events of Bloodlines

HISTORY
Dr. Ted Sallis was a biochemistry professor who worked at Empire State University. The United States Army recruited him into "Project Sulfur," which aimed to allow sol-diers to survive bio-chemical war-fare. With the army, Sallis developed "Serum SO-2," which gave its user immunity to all known toxic biochemicals. However, it became unusable when it was discovered that it had a side-effect: turning its users into monsters.

After Curt Conners lost his arm in battle, Ted met him in the hospital and the two began discussing nano-scaffolding and Ted’s attempts to create “Captain America 2.0”, a project that aimed at re-creating the lost Super Soldier Serum that had created Captain America. While unable to afford to hire Curt once they returned state-side, Ted still aided him in his cell regeneration research, which soon led Connors towards using lizard DNA. Sallis fell in love with one of his students, Ellen Brandt. The two eloped following a secret affair. After their honeymoon, they visited the fortune teller Madame Swabada, who foretold a catastrophic change.

Due to his own research needing to be moved somewhere more secluded, he discussed with Ellen the idea of moving to the Everglades so as to be closer to Curt. Sallis was then reassigned to "Project: Gladiator," a S.H.I.E.L.D. research program based in the Florida Ever-glades.

Sallis modified his SO-2 formula as the basis for a new Super-Soldier Serum. The subversive organization AIM wanted the serum and conspired with a bitter Ellen, whom Ted had long neglected since their honeymoon. Upon completing his new serum, Ted committed its formula to memory and burnt his records. When Ellen led Ted into an AIM ambush, he fled and attempted to reach Curt Connors's lab. While fleeing, he injected the only existing sample of the serum into himself just before his car crashed into the swamp. He should have died, but the magical energies of the swamp, combined with the serum as well as some of Curt Connors regeneration serum, transformed him into the hideous creature later known as the Man-Thing. His intelligence rapidly fading, Sallis then slew the AIM agents and horribly burned half of Ellen's face. Unknown to Sallis, Ellen had been pregnant.

Man-Thing returned to his former laboratory after he stumbled across Project Gladiator's creator, Wilma Calvin. The locals assumed that there was witch-craft happening and captured one of the project members, Barbara Morse, though the locals were being secretly lead by AIM. After threatening the entire project members, the locals were slain by Man-Thing. He returned to the swamp. Not long after, Wilma appeared to recognize him as Ted but was shot and went into a coma.

After wandering through the swamp for a time, he stumbled onto the Writer's Mansion and Man-Thing and Sallis appeared to be separated. Sallis was then looked after by the family that lived there. However, this turned out to be an illusion conjured by The Writer who was using Sallis to finish his book by bringing the characters to life.

With the transformation of Ted Sallis into Man-Thing virtually unknown to the world at large, two of his former colleagues, Barbara Morse and Paul Allen, brought in Ka-Zar to try and track him down. At the same time AIM returned once again to try and obtain Sallis' formula. A.I.M. captured Man-Thing in a pit after Ka-Zar had begun to follow him. Confronting A.I.M, Ka-Zar fell into the pit and after a short fight in which Man-Thing had the upper hand, Man-Thing was then knocked out by AIM. Going in to kill the pair, they were saved by Zabu. Pulling the unconscious Man-Thing out of the pit, the duo took him back to the lab where they discovered that Paul and Wilma have been captured by AIM. While Ka-Zar leaves, Man-Thing slipped through his bars and followed them to A.I.M.s secret base. After discovering the truth about Paul working for AIM, Man-Thing busted through the wall of the base and rescued Ka-Zar. After everyone gets out, Man-Thing blows up the base with him inside.

Meeting Ellen in the swamp, she removed the bandages to reveal that her face was fully healed and no longer feels scared of Man-Thing, who did not realize who she truly was. Showing no fear, the two then touched. Due to showing no fear, Ellen was not burnt and, sensing her sadness, Man-Thing left.

It was during this time Man-Thing first met the young witch Jennifer Kale and her brother, Andrew Kale when they accidentally summoned Thog the Nether-Spawn using the Tome of Zhered-Na. Initially unaware they had done so, the Kales returned to their town of Citrusville while being followed by Thog and Man-Thing. Confronting Thog, Man-Thing was initially able to destroy its original host before being sum-moned fully. Returning the fight to the swamp, Thog was thrown back into his home dimension of So-minus.

Thog returned to seek revenge by bringing Man-Thing to his home dimension and offered him the chance to become human once more if he killed the Kale family. Refusing to do so, Sallis was then reverted back to Man-Thing and Thog was apparently destroyed. The Kales then realized they were still in the swamp and everything was an illusion that Man-Thing only manages to break when he realized that his touch wasn’t burning someone who knew fear.

The Kales observed strange out-breaks of violence due to the takeover of human minds and souls by demons of the underworld. Deciding to assemble the cult, they prepare a ritual that they hope will block the demons' entry to the Earth realm. Jennifer Kale and the Man-Thing disappeared and re-appeared in chains in an other-worldly dimension. Here they met Dakimh the Enchanter, who needed to recover the Tome of Zhered-Na, the tome used to originally summon Thog. Dakimh was aware of the demonic invasion of Earth and told Jennifer that the Man-Thing is the guardian of the Nexus of All Realities. As the guardian, Man-Thing can prevent the doorways between worlds from being opened but must survive a trial by combat. The Man-Thing is forced to fight a barbarian Mongu. Mongu's battle-axe was ineffective against the Man-Thing, and the swamp monster fought back with his burning touch, winning the fight. Dakimh returned Jennifer and the Man-Thing to the swamp.

For unknown reasons, Man-Thing ran amok in the city. Man-Thing then seemingly dropped dead and was soon taken to the Kale home, Joshua Kale told everyone the ori-gins of the Tome of Zhered-Na, which has its origins stemming from Ancient Atlantis. Dahkim appeared and takes Jennifer and Man-Thing to an extra-dimensional nexus to try and recover the Tome, battling various forces of the demons of So-minus in the process. When the cult members are captured, Jennifer and Man-Thing worked together to secure the book and restore reality to normal, freeing the captured cultists. All are transported back to Earth, including a demon Man-Thing was fighting. Once back in the swamp Man-Thing is easily able to overpower the demon. With everything restored to normal, the Tome vanished, and Man-Thing returned to the swamp, his bond with Jennifer seemingly severed.

Many of Man-Thing's early activities involved meeting many of its residents and aiding those who had been wronged, usually by causing fear and scarring those were causing strife to others, including an abusive husband, a racist cop, a corrupt businessman who wanted to build an airport on Native American Land and a crashed bus.

His first interaction with a super-powered being was by awakening Wundarr, an alien who had been sent to earth to escape his dying world as a baby. Some time passed before his discovery and Wundarr soon grew to adulthood without any education. Assuming each was being attacked by the other, Man-Thing and Wundarr fought until Man-Thing left and rejected Wundarr's desire for Man-Thing to be his mother.

Man-Thing was one of the many heroes involved in defending the earth from the hordes of the Dark Dimension when Dormammu attempted to invade the Earth.

Man-Thing then teamed up with The Thing to take down the Molecule Man's "son" after he appeared in his swamp. The Thing had initially arrived due to him feeling that Man-Thing had stolen his name. During the initial confrontation Molecule Man turned both Thing and Man-Thing back into their human form, before attempting to teleport but couldn't teleport past the swamp due to the Nexus. Ted was unable to remember anything past the accident and the pair traveled to Citrusville, where they fought the Molecule Man. Turning the pair back to their monstrous forms, Man-Thing attacked the Thing and using the Man Thing's swamp mud, the Molecule Man was defeated.

Man-Thing found himself on a strange world below a floating cas-tle where he was picked up by Jennifer Kale, with the savage Korrek following from behind. Korrek caught up with Kale and the Man-Thing and attacked the two of them. However, this appeared to be nothing more than a dream of Jennifer Kale. Korrek was transported to Earth's dimension through a jar of peanut butter and resumed his at-tack on Jennifer. However, when Joshua and Andy burst into the room, Korrek believed himself surrounded and fled into the swamp. The Kales were soon visited by Dakimh the Enchanter who has come to tell the Kales about the disruption in the Nexus of All Realities caused by the construction being done in the swamp. He has also come to train Jennifer in his mystical knowledge and reveals the dream world is just a different place and people are often teleported there. Meanwhile, in the swamp, Korrek met the Man-Thing. Attacking the creature in a fury, he once again saw that no matter what he did, he could not harm the Man-Thing and so he stopped fighting. While lamenting over his plight, Korrek was visited by Howard the Duck, who had also found himself transported to Earth's dimension as well. Howard and Korrek teamed up to find a way back to their respective realities. Traveling through the swamp with Man-Thing in tow, Korrek was compelled to go to the F.A. Schist construction site after hearing a blood-curdling scream. Spotting Demons attacking the site, the Demons soon turned their attention towards Man-Thing, Korrek, and Howard and closed in for the kill. Man-Thing, Korrek, and Howard were attacked by the demons who happened to be followers of the "Overmaster", a being who seeks to take over all of existence. Fighting a losing battle against the nigh-indestructible demons, the trio was saved by a last-minute intervention by Dakimh, who asked them to join him in stopping the Overmaster. Their first task was to rescue Jennifer who had been captured by the Overmaster's followers. Explaining that they needed to realign the Nexus of All Realities, the foursome began to hop across dimensions, while losing Howard on the Journey in the process. When the trio ar-rived at the center of the nexus, they succeed in realigning it. How-ever, it also gave the Overmaster and his Congress of Realities access to the realm of Therea, where they hoped to kill the Gods that resided there and take over. There the Overmaster unmasked himself, revealing him to be the demon Thog. The Man-Thing battled Thog and his minions while burning those who feared him, and when Thog became afraid of plunging into the moat of Therean water, Man-Thing grabbed him and began to burn him as well. With his hands melting, Thog tried to break free, and ended up falling in the moat of pure water, which seemingly killed him. With their master defeated, the Congress and its armies retreated back from whence they came. The Gods of this realm were revealed to be two dogs under the care of two farmers. When the Man-Thing touched one of the dogs, they were all shown the full of reality before all being sent to their respective homes.

Back on Earth, Man-Thing met Richard Rory when he rescued the man from an alligator attack. When the Man-Thing finished killing the gator, Richard tried to get the Man-Thing to administer first aid to his injuries but he blacked out due to blood loss and Man-Thing leaves. Richard meanwhile meets a woman named Ruth Hart. Meanwhile, F.A. Schist returned and wanted to destroy the Man-Thing so he hired Professor Slaughter, an M.I.T. graduate who offers to deal with the Man-Thing. Meanwhile, back at the swamp, Ruth and Richard are silently watched by the Man-Thing, but the muck-monster eventually left the two to give them some privacy and wandered around the swamp. Here, he ran into the Skull-Crushers, the biker gang of which Ruth used to be a part of. When they saw the creature, they at-tacked it and found out that nothing works against him. Their leader Snake attacked the creature with a chain, but the Man-Thing grabbed him and his momentary fear causes him to be burned by the muck mon-ster. When the Man-Thing finally departed, Snake vows to get the creature. Meanwhile, the Man-Thing found itself drawn to the Slaughter Room, a device designed to kill the Man-Thing, which emanated sonic vibrations from inside it. However, the creature managed to destroy the device by throwing chains at its controls. At that moment, Ruth ar-rived followed shortly by Snake and Richard. Both ended up at blows, but when the Man-Thing indifferently threw away the chains it used to free itself, the chains soon struck Snake, killing him in the process. Both Schist and Hargood immediately fled the scene after that.

Schist's wife Vivian hired Dr. Dane Gavin to capture or kill the Man-Thing; he chose the former, placing Man-Thing on display in the New York Museum of Natural History, where visitors' fears sent the Man-Thing on a berserk rampage through the city until Dr. Gavin and Schist's daughter, Carolyn, took him back to the swamp. Man-Thing later faced the manifested hate of Maybelle Tork, the Demons of Liberation (embittered scarred war veterans), and the reality-altering Brian Lazarus.

Wandering into the Port Ever-glades, the Man-Thing was trapped on the Marietta cargo ship and caught up in a two-century-old curse involving the satyr Khordes, the immortal crew of the pirate Captain Fate, and oceanographer Dr. Maura Spinner. Maura was a rein-carnation of the former captain of Fate's crew, whom Fate had traded to Khordes in exchange for his treasure. Mistaking the satyr's benevolent intent, Maura had slain Khordes, who cursed them all. After helping convince Spinner to accept her destiny by the resurrected satyr's side, Man-Thing returned to the Everglades.

The bog beast then joined old allies Korrek, Dakimh, and Jennifer Kale against the extradimensional sorcerer Klonus and warrior Mortak. In a weird twist of fate, a Man-Thing-shaped candle (created after his New York rampage) was drugged and given to Ted Sallis' former love interest Sainte-Cloud (Earth-616) by her jilted lover Chuck, causing her to see Man-Thing hallucinations; exposed to the drug himself, a terrified Chuck badly burnt his face on the candle.

After surviving an assault from his one-time victim Jackson Hunter, the Man-Thing halted the Mad Viking's rampage. He then heeded the tortured spirit of student Edmond Win-shed, taking vengeance on Edmond's former tormentors. Captured by townspeople and thrown into a sewage treatment plant, Man-Thing escaped and slew the Mad Viking, ending a violent book-burning crusade by the Viking and Olivia Selby.

Now able to survive longer away from the swamp, the Man-Thing was brought by Richard Rory to Georgia, where he escaped. He fought the demon Ehrthold, as well as the soul-stealing Scavenger and his demonic creator Thog, whose Nightmare Boxes threatened to plunge all reality into madness until the positive wills of Ted Sallis and Steve Gerber contaminated the boxes, foiling Thog, whom Man-Thing once again incinerated. Alongside Ghost Rider, Morbius, and the Werewolf, (who together would be known as the Legion of Monsters), Man-Thing helped destroy the enigmatic Starseed, who was actually a would-be savior of humanity.

After again fighting the Molecule Man alongside Iron Man, the Man-Thing was captured along with the Glob by the Collector, who pitted them against the Hulk before they rebelled and escaped. Man-Thing later helped psychic Andrea Rodgers restore her fragmented personality, helped thwart the inane cos-mic menace Bzzk'Joh, drove off D'Spayre, destroyed Jude the En-tropic Man and Victorius who was allied with the Cult of Entropy (while narrowly missing a chance to regain his humanity), and encountered the extradimensional Micronauts.

Sallis' mind was nearly restored by Dr. Karl Oheimer's cerebral regeneration therapy for a CIA project; but the army suspected enemy involvement and tried to protect Sallis' serum by attempting to rescue Oheimer, who was slain in the process. The sentient Man-Thing slaughtered all others involved, but once back in the swamp his mind faded. Another experimental project briefly transported him to the Himalayas, where he encountered a Yeti race descended from Cro-Magnons.

The sorcerer Baron Mordo returned him to the swamp, restored Sallis' mind and used him as a pawn against Dr. Strange in a plot to destroy Earth, but Jennifer Kale helped the Man-Thing throw off Mordo's control and foil the plot, though Sallis' mind again faded.

After aiding Howard the Duck against the mad monopoly of Kong Lomerate, the Man-Thing befriend-ed Sheriff John Daltry and Barbara Bannister, alongside whom he again met Captain Fate and op-posed yet another Thog plot. This time, Sallis was cured and writer Chris Claremont took his place as the Man-Thing, destroying Thog. Dr. Strange restored Claremont, but Sallis' curse returned and proved irreversible. The Man-Thing was possessed by Unnthinnk, one of the demon coven called the Six Fingered Hand, who battled the Defenders in a massive plot to take over Earth; the Six-Fingered Hand turned out to be pawns of the Hell-Lords in a scheme to use the Nexus in an aborted attempt to merge Hell and Earth.

Alongside Thor, he opposed both the Man-Beast and the Bi-Beast, then briefly served as a pawn of the mad sorcerer Ian Fate, which once again led to another rampage through New York. Back in the swamps, Sallis refused an offer from the demon Eblis to become human in exchange for his mortal soul. The government's Project Glamor developed a version of Sallis's formula while planning to attack Russia with super-soldiers. However, these warriors were destroyed by the Man-Thing and others as well. Another Sallis serum derivation, SS-8, was used by Daemian Wainscroft, mutating his son Deke into a powerful form until being functionally lobotomized by the Punisher.

Alongside the Hulk, the Man-Thing encountered a new Glob, and was later nearly destroyed by the Deviant Ereshkigal when she used the Star Brand to access the Nexus in an effort to rule all reality. Another writer with reality-warping powers used the Man-Thing to complete his final story in the last seconds of his life. Shortly thereafter, the Man-Thing was one of the Daydreamers joining Franklin Richards on a surreal journey to accept Onslaught's seeming destruction of Franklin's parents, who had actually survived in the Counter-Earth of a pocket realm created by Franklin; however, Ashema the Listener, a Celestial who would help Franklin retrieve Onslaught's victims and establish Counter-Earth as a real planet orbiting opposite Earth, obliterated the Man-Thing in order to stop him from blocking access to the pocket realm.

Re-created via the combined energies of an Asgardian Norn Stone and the recent breaching of the dimensional barriers, the Man-Thing's form was briefly usurped by mail room employee Carl Shuffler, who was removed by Spider-Man using instructions from the virtually omniscient Authority.

Recent dimensional travel had shattered the Nexus of Realities, and Dr. Strange recruited Ellen Brandt to help Man-Thing restore it. In the process, the Man-Thing was possessed by K'ad-Mon, the history of the Men of Lineage was revealed, and Sallis learned that his relation with Ellen was predestined to re-store his hereditary mission. Ellen, the Man-Thing, and K'ad-Mon re-covered Nexus fragments from within the maddened Devil-Slayer, from Howard the Duck (despite the opposition of Mahapralaya and a revived Cult of Entropy), from Cleito herself in ancient Atlantis, and from a Nexus-created planet that Ellen had to destroy to save reality.

Their efforts to restore the Nexus were opposed by the Fallen Star Mr. Termineus, the embodiment of finality, who had visited the young Ted Sallis over the years. Termineus had captured Ellen's long-lost son Job Burke and trained him as his disciple in a plot to destroy all existence. Devil-Slayer united the remaining Fallen Stars, including K'ad-Mon and Sorrow, to stop Termineus. Using the power of the final Nexus fragment, Termineus succeeded in shattering the healing Nexus, wiping out all reality.

However, Sallis' nature as the Man of Lineage (combined with his love of Ellen) allowed him to briefly maintain the dream of existence; he joined forces with Job, who rebelled against his mentor, to re-imagine the creator's dream that had formed reality. All existence was restored, with Ted and Ellen inhabiting the Nexus itself, while K'ad-Mon retained control of the Man-Thing. Job returned home with his adoptive parents to live his life and prepare for his future destiny. Termineus began to plot anew to bring about the endgame, but as it was he who had involved K'ad-Mon in this struggle, he had to deal with bringing about his own failure, due to his inability to relinquish the love in his heart for his former wife, Sorrow.

Shortly thereafter, the ancient Scrier mutated one of his cabal members into the Outrider to seize the Nexus. Spider-Man helped foil this plot, and Ted and Ellen drew the consciousness of the Nexus down into the Man-Thing, merging into a powerful collective being. This merged being left the earthly sphere, becoming the new Nexus, and the magic of the swamp re-formed the Man-Thing's original form, apparently instilling it with the residual memory of Sallis' consciousness. Continuing its subconscious mission to defend the swamp and Nexus, it incinerated botanist Owen Candler, creator of the Salvation Seed and the Un-ion, which had threatened to re-place humanity with plant simuloids; slew a mad scientist who tried to use the Man-Thing in experimental emotion therapy; and even opposed a universe-menacing, virtually omnipotent Thanos enhanced by the Heart of the Infinite. Eternally curs-ed with a monstrous form, barely aware of its past or surroundings, the Man-Thing remains the most startling slime creature of all.

The Man-Thing was recently slashed in half by Ares of the Dark Avengers and "bagged and tagged" since then, however he was seen protecting the Moloids who are collecting and spiriting away the Punisher's body parts, after he is dismembered and decapitated by Daken, acting on the orders of Norman Osborn.

After Norman Osborn was deposed during the events of Siege, Man-Thing was moved to the Raft. There, Hank Pym studied it and created a device which used Man-Thing's connection to the Nexus of All Realities to enable Luke Cage's Thunderbolts to teleport anywhere in the world. He was inscribed with the 'World Song' by Satana.

Using the Nexus of All Realities, Man-Thing was able to escape the Raft and run amok around New York City. Howard the Duck, along with She-Hulk, Nighthawk, and Frankenstein's Monster went in search of him in an attempt to stop him.

Returning to the Thunderbolts, he helped during an invasion of Chicago by absorbing the hordes of monsters sent to destroy it. This caused him to become giant-sized. Satana extracted a bulb from his old, burnt out body.

During the Fear Itself event, Howard the Duck formed a team called the Fearsome Four with She-Hulk, Frankenstein's Monster and Nighthawk to stop the Man-Thing who found himself driven to an uncontrollable rage, caused by the immense levels of fear generated by the Serpent's hammer-wielders across the world. Facing various alternate universe heroes and the Psycho-Man, brought to Earth by the Man-Thing's connection to the Nexus of All Realities. The Four were eventually able to confront their own fears and calm the Man-Thing, bringing an end to his ram-page and saving the world, before going their separate ways.

After his escape from the Thunder-bolts and handling by the Fearsome Four, the Man-Thing was captured and entered into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s S.T.A.K.E. sub-division. While on their inaugural mission, the Howling Commandos were in combat with a viral plant infection. Multiple of these infected individuals joined together to form a larger being. This was cause for Dum Dum Dugan to call in for Man-Thing to be dropped into the fight. He then proceeded to fight off the enlarged being and defeat it using his burning touch. Sadly due to this the idol they were sent to retrieve was destroyed and their first mission was both success and failure.

TALENTS: Mystic Background; Occult Lore; Philosophy; Theology

CONTACTS: Demons, Daimon Hellstrom, Satana Hellstrom

HISTORY
Three origins have been presented regarding the origins of Marduk Kurios:
  • He was one of the many demons and Hell-Lords who arose from the primeval concentration of energy left behind by the ousting of the Elder Gods by the Demogorge, then shaped by the unconscious desires of the early human worshippers.
  • He was Lucifer, and led the rebellion against Paradise. Still having the form of an angel, Marduk/Lucifer was proposed the Covenant by God, and defied him, stating that as a supreme being, he could change the rules whenever he wished. God consequently agreed to step away. He then degenerated into becoming a demon, who ruled one of the several realms of Hell.
  • He was a minor demon lord who tapped into humanity’s fear of Satan and capitalized upon it to gain more power by syphoning off of their beliefs.
According to himself, in ancient times Satan tried to amass power, possibly from Heaven.

Marduk Kurios was presumably worshiped prior to the Great Cataclysm, circa 18,000 BC.

Sometime after the Great Flood, the battles between the Hell-Lords used to take place on Earth. After having seen Marduk's power during a battle, the Sumerians started worshiping him, also recording his real name. Intrigued by this new worship, he kept track of the mortal realm over the centuries. Much of his following may have been usurped by the Mesopotamian god Marduk.

Through time, Marduk took control of a very large part of Hell, falsely adopting the titles of Satan, Lucifer, and the Devil in order to further strengthen his power and devotion.

He became enamored by a family of Satanists called Hellstrom and took the shape of one of them. In this guise he married the mortal Victoria Wingate and soon after moved to Fire Lake, Massachusetts. There Victoria gave birth to Daimon Hellstrom, and a year and a half later gave birth again, this time to Satana Hellstrom. Over the years Marduk could see that his son did not care for his dark family legacy and instead lavished affection to his daughter who did. While performing a ritual with his daughter involving animal sacrifice, Victoria accidentally walked in and discovered Marduk's true nature. Driven insane, Victoria spent the remainder of her life in an asylum where she kept a diary she meant to give to Daimon once he was old enough to understand.

Marduk took Satana with him to his Hell realm while he left Daimon on Earth to be cared for by servants. Upon his 21st birthday Marduk invited his son to rule by his side, offering eternal life and power. Daimon rejected his father's wishes and stole Marduk's Netheranium trident, taking with him a portion of Marduk's power. Thus the rivalry between father and son began.

Marduk then tested Satana's loyalty by having her battle four sorcerers. Killing them she discovered that her father was behind the plot. When she was confronted by him Satana failed to kill one of her new allies in honor of her father. This angered Marduk and he banished Satana to remain on Earth until her first mortal death.

In a battle with the Defenders, Daimon's evil soul was released and he agreed to serve his father in Hell. During Daimon's final training Marduk asked Daimon to kill a human in his honor. When Daimon failed to comply Marduk revealed that although he has lived under many faces over the centuries that not all of them have been evil. He told Daimon that he was secretly pleased with his choice but then banished him to Earth, no longer under his care.

Daimon eventually learned his father's true name from the witch La Voisin. When next he confronted his father, he used this name and received a black halo over his head and became the new ruler of his father's realm in Hell.

Greatly reduced in power, Marduk tricked the male witch Andrew Kale into opening the Tome of Zhered-Na. In doing so the demon Hellphyr was released. The Hellphyr then began to attack various magical persons in order to steal their power and kill them shortly after. In causing this, Marduk had hoped to rid the world of a good percentage of its magic users in order for him to acquire a better rank among magic's stairway. Marduk offered Satana the opportunity to help him in this scheme and thus receive a higher standing herself in the realm of magic. Refusing his offer, Satana killed the Hellphyr with the help of her fellow witches Jennifer Kale and Topaz. In doing so Marduk made enemies of both his children as he searches for another way to regain his previous level of power.

Despite the continuing conflict he has with his children, Marduk still receives offerings of human souls from his daughter Satana. For every nine souls she devours, she offers her tenth victim's soul to her father.

Throughout time, he possibly started believing himself to his own lies, claiming to be the original Satan, also acting like him.

On one such occasions, he tried to oppose the Chaos King from taking over Hell, but his power was not enough, and he was temporarily absorbed by the entity. He was presumably freed after the Chaos King was defeated.

Marduk appeared again at the Devil's Advocacy, the Hell's "executive council", where he, among the other Hell-Lords, discussed about how to treat the Serpent's situation.

Marduk later reappeared when the soul of Wolverine went to Hell and was tortured by demons. In Wolverine's place was a demon who possessed Wolverine's body. With the help of the X-Men and Daimon Hellstrom, Wolverine eventually returned to his body.

Later, in the Covenant between Hell and Heaven, Satana and Daimon Hellstrom paid a visit to their father while seeking information about the Covenant. After explaining what the Covenant was and his millennial role in it, he revealed to his sons his plan to take over Earth once the Covenant is voided by Nostradamus. While, the hordes of hell waited to raise after his command.

BACKGROUND
Real Name: Marrina Smallwood-McKenzie
Occupation: Former adventurer, Queen of Deluvia
Legal Status: Citizen of Canada; Citizen of Deluvia, presumed de-ceased.
Identity: Secret
Other Known Aliases: Leviathan
Place of Birth: Lady Cove, New-foundland, Canada
Marital Status: Single, Marriage annulled
Known Relatives: Thomas (foster father); Gladys (foster mother); Daniel (foster parents grandson); Namor McKenzie (Submariner, husband); a number of unnamed children
Base of Operations: Formerly Deluvia, Atlantic Ocean
Past Group Affiliations: Formerly Alpha, Beta, Gamma Flights; Asso-ciate of the Avengers.
Present Group Affiliation:

KNOWN POWERS:
Amphibious Nature: Marrina could swim with Monstrous (75) speed. One established power stunt was to swim quickly and create a vortex with a Shift Z (500) range than inflicted Unearthly (100) damage. When in water, Marrina’s intuition increased to Amazing (50).

Blinding Touch: Monstrous (75) intensity oil secreted through her skin. Blindness lasts for 1-10 rounds.

Bestial Nature: Marrina could become a savage, bestial Plodex Warrior. In this form her fingers became claws inflicting Excellent (20) damage.

HISTORY
Marrina is from an alien species known as Plodex. Her egg was found by Tom Smallwood, a fisher-man in Newfoundland, Canada who gave it to his wife Gladys. When Gladys broke the shell she imprinted Marrina with Human female DNA. Marrina grew up mostly nor-mal, except for her odd appear-ance. She came to the attention of James Hudson.

Marrina joined Department H when she was approximately 16 and was the first member of Gamma Flight. She quickly rose to Beta Flight and by the time that Department H's funding was cut she was ready to become a member of Alpha Flight. When Alpha became independent, she joined the team as an active member. She fell under the manipu-lations of the Master of the World and learned much of her history. She left Alpha Flight to explore a relationship with Namor.

The Collector kidnapped Marrina for his Plodex collection. The Collector scanned the world for other unique specimens and finds Spider-Man and takes him as well using a Ge-nie. He also used a giant snake called Snake-Eyes using its hypnot-ic powers. He controlled him using a Kymellian flute. The two heroes however escaped but in the process they released Snake-Eyes who was now loose on the planet.

She and Namor eventually fell in love and married, after being a pawn in Atlantean politics and de-stroying her mate, a monster whose sole intention was to take over the world. She later accompanied Namor when he returned to active membership with the Avengers, and became an associate member her-self. They conceived children to-gether, but she soon underwent a strange transformation, becoming Leviathan and attacking the Avengers. Namor had to slay her with the Black Knight's Ebony Blade.

However, Llan, the Sorcerer, told the Master of the World that Marrina was sleeping a false death under the sea. The Master eventually found her body and kept her pris-oner in one of his bases, held in a stasis tube.

Marrina resurfaced in Norman Os-born's custody, and he used her as an endgame plan against Namor, who had recently betrayed him and allied with the X-Men. Osborn had her D.N.A. spliced and modified, making her a leviathan/snake-like being, driven by a hunger that could only be satiated with Atlantean blood. Once released, Marrina wrought havoc in the undersea kingdom, injuring many and killing even more.

Namor and the X-Men devised a plan: using Magik and Pixie's pow-ers of teleportation, they transport-ed all of the Atlanteans across the globe leaving Namor as the sole bait. Once she approached the X-Men's new base, Utopia, Namor realized who she was. The Stepford Cuckoos scanned her mind reveal-ing that there was nothing but rage, hunger and hate. Having no choice, they engaged her. Eventually Namor dragged a weakened Marri-na underwater, where he performed a mercy killing, ending Marrina's life.

Marrina later returned to life during the attack by the Chaos King. She was accompanied by her old Alpha Flight team.

Since her return, she has rejoined Alpha Flight, but she seems differ-ent--angrier and more of a loner.

CONTACTS: Shadowhunters

HISTORY
Combining technology and sorcery, the cyber-sorceress Mechamage tapped into the phone lines of the Fantastic Four and listened in on their conversations as they were looking for magic-users to help their injured friend, genius and adventurer Alyssa Moy. They first contacted Dr. Strange, but his assistant, Wong, told them the Doctor was not in and referred them to sorceress, Margali Szardos. The Fantastic Four found Szardos imprisoned in the Citadel by Selene, evil sorceress and Black Queen of the Hellfire Club. The heroes tried to rescue Szardos, but were overpowered by the magical abilities of the guards. The demonic guards had even managed to steal the heroes' souls when Mechamage teleported in to save the day. She defeated the guards and returned the Fantastic Four's souls to their bodies. She was then able to free Margali Szardos from her prison and Margali transported all of them to Limbo.

While in Limbo, Margali prepared the Fantastic Four to battle the looming magical threat. While the Human Torch was resting after an exhaustive training session, Mechamage took off her armor and gave the surprised hero a back rub. When Szardos felt they were prepared, she teleported Mr. Fantastic and Mechamage back to Earth to attend the Hellfire Club's party. To avoid attention, Mechamage cast a spell that made her appear as Alyssa Moy. At the club they found themselves in a secret ceremony where Selene summoned forth the powerful demon, Blackheart, and the two began to collect the souls of everyone in attendance.

Mechamage and Mr. Fantastic resisted and when Margali teleported in with the rest of the Fantastic Four they all attacked Selene and Black-heart. When Mechamage flew into Blackheart to rescue the souls of the Invisible Woman and Margali Szardos, she discovered and released the spirit of Daimon Hellstrom who had been imprisoned there as well. Using the Fantastic Four as avatars of the four ancient elements (earth, air, fire and water) and Mechamage as a mystical "conduit", Hellstrom and Margali cast a complex binding spell that imprisoned Blackheart in the bowels of the Hellfire Club. With Blackheart neutralized, Mechamage, Alyssa Moy and Margali Szardos decided to join together in order to do battle with threats from dark magic and the forces of shadow. They called themselves the Shadow Hunters.

During the so-called Maximum Security event, while the life-form known as Ego invaded Earth, Mechamage and Margali joined with Agatha Harkness, the Scarlet Witch, Dakimh, Khalid Inshallah and Jules St. Thomas in an attempt to cast Ego out of the Earth, but their spells were unsuccessful. Ultimate-ly, the hero Quasar rid the Earth of Ego by absorbing him into himself.

Mechamage, Margali, Agatha Harkness, the Scarlet Witch, Dakimh the Enchanter, Khalid Inshallah and Jules St. Thomas attempted to banish the Ego spore from Earth, but were unsuccessful.

After the Civil War, he was listed as a potential recruit for the Initiative.

I used a few sites, think Comicvine had the most detailed ones.

I honestly cannot believe that these guys threatened the Midnight Sons like they did. Only a few real combat characters in the group. Ah the 90's.
If you really want a challenge try statting up The Blood. Next to nothing on those guys.

Lol, I already have. Them and the Fallen are ready to be posted for after the Titans and Killer Indtinct are posted :). Though the Blood are basically “these are their names”.

I gotta go through Comicvine then- though I thought I did. Though I tend to skip their little “Powers and Abilities” sidebar if it lacks detail.

I did manage to find a pic of Dark Legion's duplication:

Judging from the dialogue, it could be a Reaction to Damage effect.

I like Llan from when I first heard of him. He seems extremely powerful nystically, perhaps second only to Dormammu? Physically, he is also very powerful.

Is his Chaos Magic the same as Scarlet Witch?

I think it's more philosophy or way of channeling magic energies but I could be wrong.

It's a shame he really hasn't been up to much. He'd make a good Dr Strange villain.

How well, would Man-Thing do against a large group of ninja? Does he have a weakness against them? Because, we know who the biggest clan of ninja in the Marvel universe is. And I was taught that it's bad to put the Hand against the Man-Thing.

My Amazing Woman: a super-hero romantic comedy podcast.

When the most powerful super hero on Earth marries an ordinary man, hilarity ensues.

If you put the Hand against the Man-Thing for too long, you end up like Daredevil.
