-Astral Devas undertake protective missions against souls judged worthy and good. They resemble the more "typical" Angels, looking like beautiful mortals with long wings sprouting from their backs.

Jab's Notes: Another short bio, these are actually the most typical "Angels" of the group. Few gimmicks, though- they're just very tough, Mace-wielding creatures that can stun others. Quite a lot of magic, though- the most advanced one yet.

-Trumpet Archons resemble winged Elves, and are known to be quite beautiful. Though powerful warriors, they are typically used as messengers. Given the importance of some messages they send, however, it makes sense to put them in the hands of powerhouses. They are nearly always highly-powerful in Clerical Magic.

Jab's Notes: These guys have a HILARIOUSLY-short bio in the Monster Manual. It's seriously like three sentences long. Even their list of powers is tiny. And yet, they're even more powerful than Eladrin, though only slightly so.

-Planetars are mighty generals of Heaven's armies, and are among those most likely to bestow magic and weapons upon mortals who plan to battle demonic forces. They resemble typical Angels, but are much more muscular, with inhuman skin colors (typically emerald or blue).

Jab's Notes: Basically... like the last one, but better. Planetars are larger and stronger than Astral Devas, but sport bald heads, which makes the females (th
e Monster Manual includes this as the sole example) look a bit more alien and off-putting... which might be the point.

-Solars are the highest-ranked Celestials, typically acting as retainers or Generals to divine beings and other deities. The tasks to which they are assigned are typically of grand cosmic importance, and even creatures such as Balors & Paelyrions think twice about engaging such creatures- not only is their might apparent, but they possess weapons that deal extra damage to such beings. Solars are huge beings with glowing eyes and skin of gold or silver. Their wings are gleaming white.

Jab's Notes: Basically... like the last one, but better. Planetars are larger and stronger than Astral Devas, but sport bald heads, which makes the females (the Monster Manual includes this as the sole example) look a bit more alien and off-putting... which might be the point.

Solar, Pit Fiends and other top tier otherworldly creatures are something of sore spot for me. I understand the need to make the rank and file uniform, but entities of this level should be pretty much unique. Instead we got another layer of "named entities" that superceed them.

Yeah, it's kind of funny how they're largely similar in the games. Especially since as PL 11-12 beings, they're supposed to be the best of the best, and act as "Generals". These guys are Final Bosses and Sub-Bosses, and so should kind of be unique. Or at LEAST have unique character traits. Every single Angel in the Monster Manual has a bio shorter than that of the frickin' Gelatinous Cube!

In my mind, Angels should be as diverse from each other as your average D&D party members are. Different powers, different styles, different personalities, etc. It's part of why I don't give them all the exact same "Spell-Like Abilities" (that and I find statting out magic spells to be annoying :)).

And with me getting through the Celestials, that's IT! I am officially FINISHED my project to stat up everything I can find in the Monster Manual! Some of these were more fun than others, and even the dumb races are interesting to at least COMPLAIN about!

This brings me a sense of real completion- this thread was started a little over a year ago, as I felt that Echoes was slowing down quite a bit. Thorp was away for a while, and Batgirl III had disappeared. This left the level of chattiness below what I'd wanted, and so I did what I could to neutralize that, but creating ANOTHER thread.

The original "Castellia" set is ancient, going back to the original Atomic Think Tank. It was a month-long project to stat out the interesting races, get my PCs (which I'd created YEARS before, when I worked at Zellers and was just getting into D&D conceptually) on paper, and to go on about the things I liked about D&D-style worlds. It was a fun set, and got a fair bit of attention for the time- I'd always MEANT to re-post some of it (as I hate leaving things on different forums), but never got around to it, as the size of the project, as well as my desire to always be doing NEW stuff, left it permanently on the backburner. I was never one for starting multiple threads (called "Thorp-ing" :))- it seemed unnecessary to me. But on our smaller Echoes forum, it seemed fine. So I took advantage of the gap in posting from some of our long-timers to post not only Castellia builds, but my own OC-verse at the same time!

I've long since finished off the Castellia builds I'd done last time around, and the D&D Monster Manual set was a brand-new project, to get through as much of that as I could.

However, this thread's not TOTALLY done- I still need to get around to posting up the last of the Pokemon from the Original 151. That'll be a few weeks off, though- I kind of want this one to sit for a while. Working on my own game in the Gaming Table sub-forum takes some precedence, and I also wanted to, you know, RELAX with my builds for once :). See, I'd been working on THREE THREADS for the better part of a year- that's a crazy amount of time and effort (especially on the OC thread, since OCs never draw that much attention), plus was always stressing me out in my "To-Do List", which was truly massive. I always like to have a large amount of builds ready to post (just in case things happen, like my PC going down, or me leaving town for a while), and doing that with my main thread (3 builds per day, usually) AND my Castellia thread AND my OC thread... it was a bit much :). I could really only do it because I had most of my Marvel builds already done in 3e, and I only needed to re-check my research on them!

So thanks to everyone for following the Castellia thread for as long as you have! I might have to actually revisit my Castellian Races once or twice, especially since latecomers like Woodclaw didn't get a chance to post on them when I started the thread :)!

Hi! Long time lurked here. I've been following your builds since the ATT and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

I want to thank you for this thread, I've used many of these builds for my RL campaign and it was nice seeing my players' faces when they realised that goofy villain "The Dungeon Master" had an actual Rust Monster in his lair.

And now one of them wants to play a escaped kobold genius who's built himself a battlesuit...

Hey, I just want to do only THREE write-ups a day if I can help it. Four or five if they're re-posts, since I don't want to be lazy.

Hey man, thanks! I love to hear from lurkers who've signed in just to say hi! I sometimes bug lurkers with 1 or 2 posts years later just to see if they're still around, lol. I'm always curious to see how my builds do in action- I rarely "optimize" them, exactly, so I think they might actually get trounced by PCs more often than not :).

And WOW! The original ATT! That's a hell of a long time ago, now! Over four years! Love to hear from long-timers, too!

Well, once they realised these were rust monsters it was easy for them to keep their distance and get rid of them. But the first scare was quite funny for me, and seeing a group of "cool tenager superheros" go shopping for a Monsters Manual the next time they had to face the Dungeon Master was great.

Why didn't the Dungeon Master turn them all into "Class/Racial equivalents"? that way they could only use their "changed" Powers untill they beat him...

I have a relatively stupid question but am I missing the Spell like abilities and or magic that the solars and other celestials are supposed to have? all I see in the builds are ginormous nasty fighters who can admittedly fly and D gate. But im not seeing what id expect in Angelic abilities or powers.
