Arkady always thought this was just a way to justify the uncounted generations of thieves, pirates, and swindlers that he knew his family had always been. Collapsing, he later woke up to find himself changed – enormous, vastly strong and resilient, and uglier than a Politburo member’s backside. Resigned to his fate as only a Russian could be, Arkady attempted to be a hero in his native land, only to find out there wasn’t much room for a hero in a land where corruption was king. Leaving the Rodina and his family (who now considered him an outcast), Arkady moved to America.
He spent some time in New York (largest number of bridges in the United States) before moving on to Pittsburgh (runner up) where he stayed for a few years, before his gambler's soul was drawn westward to what should probably have been his destination all along. He embraced Las Vegas, and for its part Las Vegas embraced him, with Arkady becoming a part time crime fighter, part time monster hunter, part time extra security guard (hired when the casinos thought they might have super trouble) and full time mountain-of-a-man about town. He was a freqent ally of the Freedom League's Empress, helping her out against the Card Shark gang and receiving her help in turn when old business from Russia came calling for him.

The epitome of that old business was, of course, the fury of Baba Yaga. The Crone, as Troll preferred to call her, was outraged that, when a member of the Sukinov family finally fell victim to her long-ago curse, he continued to try to play the hero instead of becoming the beast that he was in form. She was unable to confront him directly, but always made sure that he knew who was behind the monsters and mercenaries who came after him for no good reason. He bore up under this pressure well.

In 2014, after nearly a decade in which he hadn't heard a peep from Baba Yaga, Arkady got a little overconfident and decided to take a vacation in Russia. He disappeared not long after departing the airport, and while Baba Yaga is the most likely suspect in his disappearance, she's certainly not the only one. Discovering whatever happened to Troll might be a good mission for an ambitious team of young superheroes ...

Ah,so he has the 3e version of the "Roguishly Handsome" Feat/Advantage from the Noir sourcebook.....

I really liked Aaron Sullivan's world. The PL numbers were frequently too high for my taste, but that was easy enough to change.

Aaron did lower PL versions for 2e, I think.
Sentinels are pretty cool. They remind me of Image but not on a obnoxious way. It's like they have more history or something.

Well, she'd admit that now, but for the longest time Johnny Rocket was not a safe topic of conversation where she was concerned. When his ex-boyfriend went public, Rachel took it on herself to publicly combat what she viewed as a scurrilous attack on her friend's character -- without asking Johnny whether that was something she ought to do. She was thus rather embarrassed when Johnny publicly came out, beginning a decade-long rift between the two of them. She finally came to terms with the fact that fault was entirely on her side shortly before Johnny's marriage, and made amends.

Her area of operations has resulted in her having sometimes daily confrontations with various branches of VIPER, whom she has (through harsh experience) learned not to underestimate. She was fortunate to have the Champions backing her up in her only direct confrontation with General Venom to date, and believes that it's only a matter of time before the alleged Supreme Serpent tries to either kill her or capture her again. She is more than ready for that confrontation.

Astronomer Gina Morrissey never wanted to be a hero. But when her experimental telescope attracted the attention of an alien symbiote which merged with her, granting her cosmic powers, she reluctantly rose to the challenge, operating under the name Onyx and based out of Ithaca, New York. Her journeys took her all over the world, however, most notably fighting against Fallout and his allies when they attacked the Arecibo observatory. Over the years, she bonded with her 'partner' enough to realize that it was a law enforcement agent from a distant region of the galaxy, and so worked with Star Knight quite a bit after the other hero made her debut.

It was on one such mission in 2015, accompanying the Star Knight and several dozen other members of her order on an alien planet, that Onyx fell in battle. Unable to return her friend's body to their planet of birth, Sri Montoya gave her an honored burial and then moved on ... unaware that Gina Morrissey would 'wake up' from her apparent death a month later, leaving her unfortunately stranded on a distant world until her partner completes its own recovery, which could take even longer. She's trying to make the best of things, though.

Okay, as you may have noticed I'm not exactly putting these out as quickly as I'd like, and I'm thinking that once I get done the last three in this series I'm going to be taking a sabbatical away from this thread to work on some other stuff. I'll still be updating the setting thread every month or so.

I realize it's a coincidence, but I'm struck by the similarities in the origins and powers of Onyx and my Russian villain Eminence, who got covered a bit in this thread earlier. Could be a future plot hook.

Your work is really quite good, and while I love seeing it pop up, obviously take whatever time you need.

Hope everything is okay on your end, Davies, and that things go well with those other projects you want to focus on.

For my part, I recently started going through this thread, and found a lot of the updates, story ideas and such to be very good and compelling, nice updates to the established characters. You did a really interesting job of combining several RPG settings in a way that feels natural and is still playable. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with in the future.
