Thanks! The lion's mane was actually a last-minute addition to the pic- I read his bio again and was like "shit! Forgot about that!"

Deimos is kind of a combination of the Chaos Knights and Orcs from Warhammer- Chaos design, but with the weird "tribal painting" stuff.

Re: Eris

Post by bsdigitalq »

Ok, this image right here is pretty freakin' epic. The size difference between Eris and Mega-Woman, the huge metal wings of Eris wrapping around the image and going a little in front of MW, and Eris' expression with the blank eyes...yeah, some serious shit is gonna go down in a moment.
ERIS, GODDESS OF CHAOS AND DISCORD (aka Discordia, Strife, Enyo)

Responsibility (Goddess of Discord)- Eris' personal obsession is creating problems for others. Small things will do sometimes, but her real goal is to create a tiny rift, which opens up into a massive conflict. Her master stroke was The Trojan War, which rewrote part of the ancient world of Earth. She's done similar things across the universe, but likes to manipulate humans most of all- their passions and deceitful natures are like candy for her.
Reputation (Shit-Disturber)- Almost nobody who knows Eris will tolerate her presence for long. Anyone familiar with her will not be easily fooled nor persuaded by her, so long as they know its Eris.
Reputation (Monster)- The Trojan War isn't the only conflict she's been responsible for- many alien races have stories of wars that were caused by discord and strife that Eris had set off. Though proving it was her is impossible, she is considered a massive public enemy and a genocidal monster by much of the known universe, and has been hunted by some very powerful beings.
Enemy (Athena)- Eris likes to screw with Athena more than anyone. It stems from Athena's stoic, humorless nature, her ridiculous pride, and her orderly existence- all things Eris likes to break down and bother. Getting a reaction out of her "DEAR sister" is her favorite thing in the entire world. She sends threats against Athena, but wouldn't dream of dealing with her permanently- it'd ruin all of her fun!

Eris- Goddess of Chaos:
-Eris is the Goddess of Discord- the creator of small conflicts that gather further strife as they build, culminating in a massive battle- she causes trouble for the sheer sake of it. Essentially, she's a shit-disturber of the highest order. She is one of a few natural-born children of Zeus & Hera, but sought a smaller role than her less subtle brother Ares- God of War. She wished to work from the shadows, and did not seek fame (nor a title as "Goddess of _____") from the Mortals, but nonetheless became known due to her work in the Trojan War- setting off an argument between the Goddesses that spiraled into Paris abducting Helen to his home in Troy (Eris knew that in order to win the famous Beauty Contest, Aphrodite would gift Paris the "most beautiful woman in the world", which was famously Helen of Troy), which turned into the Trojan War when her husband Menelaos tried to take her back. This act made her infamous to Greeks & Romans alike, as well as the other Gods, who came to distrust her even further. Eris didn't mind- she still considers this her master-stroke- turning a minor squabble into a war that killed thousands and permanently altered the ancient world.

Eris the Super-Villain:
-Eris has moved on to harassing her half-sister Athena, Goddess of Wisdom. Athena still holds a grudge for being made a fool of in the "Apple" contest all those centuries ago, and Eris has taken Athena's role as a modern-day "Super-Hero" to be a direct challenge to the cause of chaos and disorder. Eris thus endeavored to become a "Super-Villain" in opposition, creating various menaces and nuisances to vex her "Dear Sister". Though evil to the core, she never attempts to directly kill Athena- such actions have repercussions, and she'd never do something directly- plus, it would ruin all of her fun- Athena is SO serious and stodgy that ruining her life is sheer entertainment. Despite the "nuisance villain" thing, Eris may still be Athena's most high-end villain- others are mightier (the Norse Pantheon especially, as is Poseidon), but few are as intractable and enduring.

-Eris is cunning and manipulative, her words seemingly kind, but dripping with alarming insincerity. She cuts through people's confidence, breaks down and manipulates their goals until they suit her purposes, and all of her end-games result in the deaths of thousands. Though cheery and rarely violent, she is among the most evil people on Earth. Her status as a daughter of Zeus and Hera render her nigh-untouchable to others, and her planning skills usually make her hard to assault in any case (few realize that Eris is the cause of their misfortune until much too late).
Damn, this is a seriously epic villain. I like how you really went all the way with her to turn her into a cosmic manipulator of the highest order, who is more or less responsible for death and suffering on a level that few others can touch. And what's worse is, she's not directly doing it like some typical world destroyer type- she's making others do it to themselves. And all for the lulz? Yeah, that's pretty freaking monstrous and evil.

Hahahaha, ok, that is freakin' hilarious. Though now I'm trying to imagine what other humorous situations could be churned out from the relationship between these two beyond the obvious joke.

Iapetus in Mythology: Iapetus is a rather ignored Titan in myth, though he's the only one mentioned in "The Iliad", having been trapped in Tartarus. His name means "wound/pierce", so people think he might have been a craftsman, though scholars usually describe him as a God of Mortality. His wife Clymene is an Oceanid, and they are the parents of the famous Atlas, Prometheus & Epimetheus, as well as the forgotten Menoitius.

-Iapetus is a Titan of Mortality, charged with representing death to early people. Unlike his siblings, who reveled in their positions of power, Iapetus considered it a mere job- he cut down millions of lives with a dispassionate, "this is just a job" attitude that made him among the less-famous Titans, but possibly one of the most dangerous. His lack of obsession with power made him a lot more reasonable, careful and reserved when it came to battle. Tactically-gifted, he sired some very important children- particularly the Titans Atlas and Prometheus, both of whom are famous to mortals even today. It is sometimes thought that most mortals "descend" from Iapetus in some way- as his children represent various sides of the mortal spirit- Prometheus is crafty, Atlas daring, Menoitius violent, and Epimetheus inept.

Jab's Notes: Iapetus is largely-forgotten to history, and scholars don't even really know what he represents, so I just kind of took the "Mortality" thing and slapped a Death Weapon onto the Titan template, while also making him a bit smarter. His dispassionate nature is because I kind of wanted ONE of the Titans to not be all "BWAHAHAHAAH I AM A DEATH GOD", even though he literally IS a Death God- it makes for a more interesting contrast. The other Titans reveled in genocide- to Iapetus, this was just a job.

Divine Offspring:
With Clymene: Atlas (Lifts the World), Prometheus (gives mortals fire), Epimetheus (Afterthought) and Menoitius (Doomed Might)

Heh- thanks. I'm pretty proud of how she came out- seemingly a minor threat (physically, she's not that mighty), but someone dangerous on a grand scale, largely through planning and forethought rather than blastin' away at stuff. Her bleeding insincerity and sheer joy at disrupting things would make her a hoot to see. Plus Pamela Adlon would totally be playing her :).

Glad you liked the picture, too! When you suggested she have larger wings after you saw the other one, I was like "well, I guess she can have an upgraded War Form..." and came up with that one, with the size increase because... reasons.

Relationship (Iapetus)- Though Iapetus cared for his outgoing, charming wife, she found him dour, boring and genocidal. She betrayed him and the other Titans to the Olympians, but chose to never remarry.
Responsibility (Guilt)- As one of the Titans, Clymene was party to acts of genocide on an unfathomable scale. She retains a sense of guilt about this, and puts on a brave face for others. Most Olympians haven't seen her in centuries.

Total: Abilities: 70 / Skills: 32--16 / Advantages: 1 / Powers: 29 / Defenses: 8 (124)

Clymene in Mythology: Scholars disagree on just who was the wife of Iapetus- some say that it was Asia the Oceanid, but Hesiod declares it to be Clymene, another child of Oceanus, and Herodotus calls Asia- namer of the continent- as the wife of Prometheus, rather than his mother. In any case, this makes Iapetus one of the only male Titans to not marry a fellow child of Uranos. Making things even more confusing are the numerous Clymenes in mythology- though the potential mother of Prometheus is by far the most important, there are seriously a dozen of them. Clymene literally means "Fame", and so she represents some aspects of that, such as when Hera plans to award Paris "great renown" at the Judgment of Paris- it is depicted on art as literally offering Clymene to him.

-Clymene is not a true Titan, but the daughter of Oceanus & Tethys, making her an Oceanid- one of thousands. The single Iapetus chose her for a wife, enjoying her outgoing, charismatic nature to contrast his more sullen, dispassionate demeanor. One of the only Titans to not be a child of Uranos, she failed to fit in with the others. She was easily the favorite of the mortals of the galaxy, and shared little in common with the genocidal Titans, despite birthing four of Iapetus's children- Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus & Menoitius. When the Olympians struck at the Titans, beloved Clymene stood aside with two of her sons, while Atlas & Menoitius fell before the Olympians, and the Titans soon followed.

-For her neutrality, she was allowed her freedom, and came to represent "Fame" for her outgoing nature. She was used as an instrument of the "regime change" to the new leaders, convincing the intergalactic populace of the Olympians's worthiness. She quietly "retired' to a position within the Empire, only rarely being brought out for the "subjects" to see- though she is gregarious and enjoys people, her tremendous guilt over the atrocities of the Titans leaves her extremely introspective these days.

Jab's Notes: As an Oceanid and a Titan sometimes seen in later art (if not stories), Clymene has a different kind of role. She's not a true Titan, but an Oceanid, and I threw in some "War Guilt" stuff as part of her backstory to both allow her to save face compared to the rest of the Titans, but still suffer in comparison.

Two things:1) i absolutely LOVE what your doing so far with my favorite Pantheon and can't wait for the rest....And 2) are you going to make Prometheus an ally of Athena against Discord or the Other way around? (also, pppppplease tell me your gonna write-up the Argonauts?)

1) Thanks for the kind words!

2) Unfortunately, for most of these guys, I don't really have a "set" idea until I sit down and get started, so I don't know what I'm gonna do with Prometheus just yet. I'm keeping the "he was freed from the cliff" aspect, and he'll probably be rather friendly with Herakles as a result. And I have a solid idea for THAT guy...

Though I'll probably have little cut-offs here and there to focus on actual superheroes in between the God Builds, as this is ninety straight builds otherwise :).

2.5) Hm, I hadn't thought about that. What I read about it in a Greek Myths guide of mine is more or less a list of JASON's accomplishments, and adding only that a TON of retcons have existed about the Argonauts, to the point where getting a static list of them is impossible. They suffered a heckuva lot of attrition, though. Since you asked, I can probably do that at some point! I'm already getting an idea! The whole "The Olympians are Aliens" thing means that their adventures could be even MORE epic!

Also, geez, I should look at things before I post them more. I literally used the word "literally" three times in Clymene's description. That's literally insane.

Oceanus in Mythology: The Divine Personification of The Sea that encircles the entire world. He sometimes has a serpentine lower body, but usually has the "Standard Bearded God" upper-body. His & Tethys' children are the numerous Oceanids (generally used as mothers for various Heroes & Gods), and all of the rivers, fountains and lakes of the world (also given personifications). Along with Themis & Prometheus, did not take sides against The Olympians, and was thus left untouched by the Titan War. He was often referred to often, but rarely appears as a real CHARACTER in mythology (the only story in which he appears features Herakles threatening him for tossing him about on the waves- Oceanus actually backs down).

-Oceanus is, in actuality, a Water Spirit, like the River & Lake Spirits of the world (which are considered his children, having largely spawned from the seas), and not a true Titan. He was added to the Pantheon when the Olympian Titans arrived on Earth, and used as a font of knowledge of their new planet. Though an ally, Oceanus held no true alliance with the Titans, even though he married one of them- Tethys. Because of this, he remained neutral during the Titan War, and was thus left unpunished by victorious Zeus. In fact, his daughter Amphritrite became the wife of Poseidon, the "King of the Seas".

-Vastly powerful, Oceanus is nearly impossible to injure with his host of Immunities. At PL 15, he can take on anyone on Earth and win, and even the Gods would think before challenging him. So much the better that he is generally-peaceful and disinterested in Earth politics.

Jab's Notes: Part of my setting includes some "there's spirits/dryads/kami in stuff", so it makes sense that the OCEAN is an entity, in the grand scheme of things. This helps a bit of the "The Earth is Special" mentality of the setting, as most OTHER worlds probably have Oceanus equivalents, but none of THEM were allied to Titans.

Divine Offspring:
With Tethys: The Oceanids (Daughters of Oceanus), The Potamoi (Rivers), The Nephelai (Clouds)
I still perfer my boy Poseidon to Oceanus, but it's a pretty cool concept none-the-less.....Just think of what an Avatar of this ol' boy would look like.. :)

There's a couple of places you Could look for good Argonauts information:while i disliked the Harryhausen movie,it has one of the best roster looks for them.....You could also check out The Legendary Adventures of Hercules for a (slightly) more accurate version of them(depending on how much you can stand Kevin Sorbo's horrible acting)....for you reading pleasure,i'd highly recommend The Mythology Handbook (published by ologyworld ,you can find their website here:www.ologyworls.com),specifically their books on Greek/Roman mythology .It helped me make my Heroic PC Cerberus &my Master Villan Legion more greek/roman themed....Hope it helps! :D

Tethys in Mythology: Tethys was a Sea Goddess, known mainly as the wife of Oceanus (the embodiment of the world's waters), and mother of countless Oceanids, many of whom birthed famous heroes and Gods who appear throughout antiquity. She doesn't appear in many myths, but is considered the mother of all rivers. Tethys and her husband did not ally with the Titans during the Titanomachy, and thus remained free- one of the few things Tethys personally did was see the education of Hera. Her name means "nurse" or "Grandmother".

-Tethys is another Titan, and the wife of Oceanus- the spiritual essence of the Ocean. More good-natured than her siblings, she was meant to ally with the spirit of the Ocean itself, gaining its side in the Titans' dominance of early Earth, but she unexpectedly fell for his dominant-yet-gentle nature- though she'd allied with countless Water Spirits over the years, it was Earth she called home. Refusing to engage in the Titanomachy, she remained neutral with her husband (in fact, she even helped raise the infant Zeus, and later tutored a young Hera), and the two were thus allowed to live on in peace when the Olympians took over. The respect even Zeus and Hera offer her means that she wants for nothing, and is generally allowed to avoid any Olympian duties. This is a boon awarded to very few Titans- if the sheer reputation of the beings wasn't enough to ensure her safety, the defenses of the Olympians would guarantee it.

-Tethys is not really the "mother" of the waterways of Earth, as Water Spirits don't breed that way. She is more like an adopted or stepmother-figure to them. However, she is most certainly the mother of the Oceanids, or "Ocean Nymphs", many of whom factor heavily into the geneologies of other Gods, and even some of human history. Titans are genetically created to breed with just about anything, and the magical power inherent in Oceanus is mighty enough to produce plenty of offspring.

Complications:
Responsibility (Olympian Pride)- All Olympians are a bit prideful. Titans even moreso- their tremendous size makes them highly-arrogant as well.
Motivation (Information)- Mnemosyne wishes nothing more than to collect all the information in the known universe- all cultures, all fiction, and all individuals. She sees her mission as one of dire importance- information is power, and all have worth. This makes her one of the more "fair" Gods, but also one of the more frightening, for all secrets are known to her.
Reputation (Dangerous)- All secrets being open to Mnemosyne makes her and her data-banks targets to anyone who either wants their secrets kept, or wants the secrets of others.

Total: Abilities: 130 / Skills: 92--46 / Advantages: 13 / Powers: 32 + 184 / Defenses: 20 (425)

Mnemosyne in Mythology: Mnemosyne literally means "Memory", but clearly exists in the flesh & blood sense, as she is the mother (by Zeus) of the Nine Muses which govern all human thought, culture and art. So basically "Art" is descended from "Memory", but also given form by the King of the Gods himself. Very allegorical stuff. The story goes that they slept together for nine consecutive nights (KINKY), thus conceiving all nine Muses. Though she was one of the Titans (her status as a conceptual being reflects this), Mnemosyne was separate- she did not engage in the Titanomachy, and was actively worshipped in Greek life. In fact, poets nearly always devoted a line or two in the beginning of their works to plead for her aid in remembering their tale. Physicians also prayed to her in the Temple of Asclepius (because they had to remember how to cure people, I guess). Though she was prayed to, she didn't appear in many stories- she basically was born of Gaea & Uranus, popped out the Muses, and disappears from the narrative.

-Mnemosyne is the Titan of Memory, known for cataloguing nearly everything in the known universe. Her might is as great as any of her siblings, yet she was not a normally-violent individual- she merely takes down all available information, recording it in vast storage banks. As knowledge is power, this made her both feared (she was known for discovering secrets), and admired- countless beings have sought her aid directly or indirectly, and many brave souls have sought out her numerous "Information Worlds" attempting to access some archaic data that she's placed there. She maintains a highly-neutral stance, and refused to engage in any petty conflicts her siblings engaged in- even when pressed, she would help neither the Titans nor the Olympians during the Titan War.

-Mnemosyne is worshipped as a great creator as well- her nine daughters by Zeus are the Muses said to observe over all art and culture in the universe. She uses these Muses as agents of creation in the world, as well as recorders of the unique creations of mortals.

-Though typically nonviolent, Mnemosyne is dangerous if crossed- beings who've broken past the security of her worlds (which are guarded by powerful machines) are punished severely, and she has scoured entire worlds in attempting to win back information that was taken, or to erase knowledge of its existence. It was in this frame of mind that modern Earthlings discovered her- a foolhardy super-villain had heard a fraction of a rumor that stated her information-banks included knowledge of dark magic spells, and he stole that spellbook. A furious Titaness then declared that all of Earth must be wiped out to protect the universe from that knowledge, leading to a massive conflict with the Legion of Light, who first argued that Earth could be saved (after proving that the wizard could not have shared his information just yet), but then failed to save the wizard's life- she annihilated him, along with anyone he'd been in contact with since his return.

-Mnemosyne is a powerful figure to the Olympians, and few would dare mess with someone so powerful, and with so much knowledge of their transgressions at her fingertips. Alien civilizations have been known to crumble at her hands for crossing her, as well- as one of the few Titans left free after the Titanomachy, she is controversial, feared, and sometimes hated. Even Hera and Zeus would prefer not to cross her, even to defend a world they liked.

Jab's Notes: I couldn't really figure out what to do with this one, until I recalled my attempts at creating a Female Cosmic Being (fairly rare in comics), and trying to justify what this being is, or why she does things- motivation is key; you can't just come up with a random cosmic whatever and expect it to be interesting. One half-idea for the character was a "Cosmic Cataloguer" of stuff, at which point I realized that Mnemosyne is PERFECT for that- I simply combined the two, thus creating something that was powerful and had a real purpose, but could theoretically destroy entire worlds if crossed. And the idea of all the information in the universe being kept in databanks and in someone's memory strikes me as having tremendous storytelling capabilities. Sort of like Brainiac in the "Superman" Animated Series, but with personality and a dispassionate, neutral stance to it.

Divine Offspring:
With Zeus: The Nine Muses

Capers:
* Another mortal has interfered with the Titaness's databanks, and must be eliminated. The heroes must either defend this individual, or prove that his culture is worth saving.
* One of the Unknowable Cosmic Forces of the universe has been discovered and catalogued by Mnemosyne. This transgression must be punished, leading to a massive cosmic brawl that threatens much of the universe.
* Another Cosmic Force seeks a secret that only Mnemosyne possesses, and it will kill her and wipe out all memory of the universe to get it. The heroes must save her or risk precious knowledge being lost forever, or a universal cataclysm.
* Mnemosyne requires the aide of the heroes for an important missions- and as a reward, she offers to give each of them the answer to any question they want.

Themis in Mythology: Themis is the "Lady of Good Council" and the personification of divine order, justice, fairness and the natural law of the world. Less like Dike/Justitia (aka the lady with the scales) and more like something GREATER. She is only briefly mentioned in the mythos, having slept with Zeus at least a few times- her children include the Horae (Hours), Dike and Astraea. She is actually said to be an earlier wife of Zeus, pre-Hera- this is largely metaphorical, as Zeus, King of the Gods, mates with Law to produce several fundamental aspects of human life (such as plant-growing, civil law and peace). She stands as the only Titan who was actively worshipped in Greek times.

-Much more obscure than most Gods, Themis is of incredible importance to the fundamental functions of the universe. The daughter of Uranus and GAEA like the other key Titans, she represents the Divine Order- Cosmic Justice, in a sense, making her a judge of matters of great significance. This put her at odds with her genocidal siblings, many of whom decried her, but didn't wish to stand opposed to someone with friends in high places (perhaps even higher than Titans dare dwell). In essense, Themis was charged with determining right and wrong on a fundamental level- not one ordained in courts or in writing, but in terms of actual morality from sentient beings. She lacked passion and the outgoing personality of most Titans, appearing very impersonal and impartial. She eventually spoke out against her father Uranus, and aided the Titans in unseating him from power, determining that anyone would be better.

-When she finally spoke out against her brother Kronus (upon realizing that he was just as evil as their father), she was imprisoned- a blasphemous act in the cosmos. She was finally freed when the Olympians turned the tide in the Titanomachy, and she publicly spoke in favor of Zeus and his siblings. Darkly promising that she would be watching to ensure that Zeus proved his father's better as a ruler, she was stricken by his suggestion- that the two marry!

-Zeus, despite loving and being more attracted to Hera, had chosen Themis as his bride in order to consolidate power and ensure his credibility (who better to become Queen that a Titaness of Divine Order?), and to provide mighty children. However, his desire for the heartbroken Hera grew, and his children proved merely capable and intelligent rather than powerful- when Zeus began an affair with Hera in secret, Themis quickly uncovered it and dispassionately declared them divorced- Zeus quickly married Hera and the history of the Olympians truly began.

-Themis quietly rejoined the Cosmic Councils that govern the universe, and is typically only seen during matters of great cosmic importance. Occasionally, some Olympians are seen asking her for advice, though rarely her judgement (which can fall against them). Her children joined the Olympian Empire in various positions of importance- governing written laws (Dike/Justitia and Eunomia), treaties between worlds (Eirene), the fundamentals of farming (The Horae) and more.

-Themis is fairly typical for a Titan in terms of power, but is the most difficult to injure, being more of a universal constant than a living being at times. She often appears to only be damaged if she chooses to be.

Jab's Notes: Themis was a tricky one- she's a Titan on the side of good, but doesn't really do anything important. And... she's Zeus's FIRST WIFE? I had no idea! I mean, he had all sorts of kids with so many women, but many tales indicate the two had nuptials and stuff. Very interesting. But on a character that really isn't. So I kind of played with that, modifying her around some grand Cosmic Purpose, sort of like Marvel's Living Tribunal, but also justifying why she isn't always around. The Zeus/Hera thing kind of suddenly came to me, as it made Hera somewhat more sympathetic (she was skipped over in marriage), while also being pretty ironic (SHE was the first "Other Woman" of Zeus!).

Divine Offspring:
With Zeus: The Horae- Auxo (Grower), Carpo (Fruit-Bringer) & Thallo (Plant-Raiser); Dike (Justice), Eirene (Peace), Eunomia (Order of Law) (some tales indicate the Fates are the children of Zeus and Themis, but they are in fact much older than either)

Cronus in Mythology: Cronus is the fabled father of the six original Olympians. He slew and overthrew is father, Uranus the Sky-God, and took over the pantheon with his brothers and sisters. However, he proved just as cruel as his father had been, kept the Cyclopes & the Hekatonchieres imprisoned, and consumed his own children as soon as they were born, fearing that one of them might grow up to overthrow him, as he'd done to Uranus. Cronus was said to rule over the "Golden Age of Man", a time of plenty and little suffering. It was his last child, Zeus, who finally overthrew him- Zeus was hidden away by his mother Rhea, and he freed his siblings and those Cronus had imprisoned, eventually leading the Olympians against the Titans, overthrowing them all and imprisoning them in Tartarus.

-Some myths thereafter diverge- Homer and others say the Titans remain imprisoned within Tartarus. Pindar suggests that Cronus was later released after Zeus took pity on his father, and placed in charge of Elysium (the "Good Heaven").

-The Roman God Saturn, Cronus's equivalent (the Romans attached their own Gods to those of other cultures, effectively merging them), was a much more revered being in that culture- here, he gives his name to the greatest festival in Rome (the Saturnalia), and we gave his name to the first day of the weekend and the second-largest of our Planets. He was a native Roman God who was later conflated with the Greek Cronus, explaining this dual nature- they basically Retconned him. He was later associated with "time", owing to his sickle/scythe (which culls wheat) and his rulership over the "Saturnian" Golden Age- that his Greek name sounds like "Chronos" only added to this. Modern depictions of Father Time are heavily related to Saturn. And of course, the start of our weekend begins with "Saturn's Day".

-Kronus, who later adopted the name Saturn, is the cruel leader of the Titans, having taken over the Pantheon from the control of his father Uranus, the Sky-God. Uranus had imprisoned GAEA's beloved Cyclopes and Hekatonchieres within Tartarus, and ruled the galaxy with a vicious glee, and so she convinced her other children, the Titans, to usurp him. Creating a deadly Scythe which could cut down even an immortal's life, she offered it to the Titans. Courage waned in all save Saturn, who offered to take the Scythe. As his brothers held down their father, Saturn severed his genitals and spread his blood across the universe- where it fell, it created monsters, Giants and the Furies. In his death-throes, Uranus taunted Saturn that his own children would usurp him in turn.

-Saturn took his father's warning to heart, and became increasingly paranoid over his position in the universe- he also betrayed GAEA's wishes by re-imprisoning her first children within Tartarus. In fact, Saturn was just as bad a despot as his father had been, increasing the size of the Titanian Empire over the cosmos. He slew Cosmic Gods with the Scythe (including the original Saturn, who came to be worshipped by the Romans as a benevolent one), forced entire cultures to worship and pay homage to him, and had his siblings scour entire worlds of life for displeasing him. And in his paranoia, he refused to allow his wife Rhea birth their children in peace- he broke in to the birthing chamber each time, devouring the newborn infant (essentially absorbing its essence and spirit) lest it grow to challenge him.

-Five times Saturn did this, absorbing the essence of the infant, before a heartbroken Rhea cut a deal with GAEA, and allowed her sixth son, Zeus, to be impersonated by a technologically-powered gemstone in his shape. Zeus was raised far from his father's gaze, on the backwater planet of Earth, before he was sent against Saturn, who was forced to vomit up his other children- Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and Demeter. Zeus broke the Cyclopes and Hekatonchieres free, setting off the "Titan War"- a ten-year massacre that ultimately resulted in Saturn losing his Scythe and he & his siblings being imprisoned in the former dimension that held his former victims.

-In this prison, Saturn has rotted for millennia, awaiting the time he might escape. While mortals throughout the universe have largely forgotten his reign of terror, and many cultures began worshipping him anew after conflating him with local divinities (such as the Roman God "Saturn"), he is truly one of the universe's great evils, and the eons of waiting for revenge have only made his rage grow.
