Though her teachers question if Murphy Alexander is as good a friend as Janice makes him out to be given his own colorful history of questionable behavior. What kind of influence he has been on Janice is anyone’s guess, and what she’ll do after graduation this year is something that many of her teachers are wondering about.
You're not even trying to pretend you've appropriated Lex, have you? :D
Nope. ;)

Though I do have Arkrite's ok to do so.
Yup, TM asked me ahead of time and I told him I was good with whatever he had in mind.

To be honest I don't mind anybody doing their own takes on my characters. I know they can be quite polarizing at the best of times. Which can result in a lot of very interesting stories and takes.

Besides, I've already got the version I like, so seeing somebody else's rendition isn't going to bug me. ;~)

Real Name: Jake Sheridan
Height: 6’
Weight: 178 lbs
Hair: Blonde
Eye Color: Brown

Complications:
Accident: Basilisk’s eyebeams occasionally discharge involuntarily, especially when he is angry or exited.

Love Triangle: Basilisk is fighting for the romantic attention of Kayla Meyer (Cerebra) against Murphy Alexander (Current).

Motivation ~Responsibility: Basilisk seeks to use his powers and skills for the benefit of others.

Relationships: Basilisk is close with the other members of Alpha Class as well as some lower classmen.

Prejudice: Transhuman.

Quirk: Basilisk tries to keep his emotions in check, and sometimes comes off as oddly quiet and reserved.

Uncontrolled Power: Basilisk's Optical Beams are permanent and uncontrolled without his Control Helmet or unique goggles, and the only way he can turn them off is by closing his eyes. Also without his Control Helmet, Basilisk can only use his Optical Beam power.

Background: Jake Sheridan grew up in Ketchikan, Alaska where his father supported the family by being a bush pilot transporting supplies to various locations in Alaska in a DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver; sometimes taking his family along as he would be gone for several days at a time. During one such trip the family ran afoul of bad turbulence, the experience causing Jake to undergo enough stress that he manifested his Transhuman powers – a blast of energy from his eyes that forced the plane to go down in flames. Jake’s parents fastened him into a parachute and pushed him off the plane, hoping that he would survive.

Unfortunately, the Sheridans were unable to escape the plane in time and Jake’s parachute caught fire from falling wreckage. This resulted in Jake hitting his head upon landing and causing brain damage that would be undiagnosed until he was older. Luckily he was found by search parties, though without any surviving family he was made a ward of the State and sent to a group home where he spent the next several years.

During that time, Jake was picked on by other children because he needed to wear special glasses to deal with the severe headaches he suffered due to his brain injury, resulting in his becoming something of an outcast. It was also during this time that his powers began to fully manifest, the worst being during a fight between Jake and one of his bullies that resulted in part of the roof of the state home being blown wide open. It was shortly after that incident that a recruiter for the Vanguard Academy came and took custody of Jake so that he could attend the school to be trained in the control and use of his emerging powers.

In those last three years, he has come out of his shell, developing friendships with several of his fellow classmates. Thanks to his father’s style of disciplined upbringing, Jake has a strong respect of authority and quickly fell into the routine of the school, so much so that he has become a respected co-leader of his class.

Now nearing a major crossroad in his life Jake is debating about trying to pursue a serious relationship with Kayla Meyer, as he believes that she has feelings for him as well even though another classmate, Murphy Alexander, is actively pursuing her romantically.

Real Name: Murphy Alexander
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 176 lbs
Hair: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Family Secrets: Current is aware of several of his father’s personal misdeeds, but keeps them to himself to spare his family any more pain.

Legacy: Current is the son of the hero Dynamo.

Love Triangle: Current is fighting for the romantic attention of Kayla Meyer (Cerebra) against Jake Sheridan (Basilisk).

Relationships: Current is friends with some of Alpha Class and a few other students of the school, though he is closest to Barrier and Penumbra.

Prejudice: Transhuman.

Background: Murphy Alexander is the son of Mark Alexander, who is the superhero Dynamo as well as a successful novelist, and Madeline “Maddie” Alexander. When Murphy was thirteen years old, Mark revealed his dual identity and that one-day Murphy would likely develop similar super powers of his own. Not wanting to wait on random chance Murphy happily jammed a butter knife into the toaster the next morning, smiling as his powers manifested to save him from being electrocuted. Needless to say, his parents has polar opposite reactions; his mother was horrified that her son would take such a reckless action, while his father was thrilled his son was willing to take a huge chance to follow in his footsteps.

What followed over the next few years for Murphy was training under his father’s guidance, however there were ways that Murphy could utilize his powers that Mark could not and therefore was poorly equipped to help him understand and use well. That combined with his father's commitments in his personal life and his heroic life meant that Murphy eventually hit a wall in his training and there was little he, or his father, could do about it. That was when Maddie contacted the staff of the Vanguard Academy about helping her son. Unhappy at first about being sent away, Murphy’s attitude was disruptive until some of his fellow students discovered who his father was and became infatuated with him. His ego satisfied, Murphy has become something of an interesting split personality as sometimes he is dependable, sure of himself and leading his class from the front, while other times he is a self-absorbed, vain, self-indulgent ass.

Some of his teachers think the latter behavior is Murphy’s way of rebelling against what might be expected by him due to his father’s heroic legacy, others feel that he’s just a self-entitled punk living off his dad’s reputation. Either way all of them are hoping that during his senior year that Murphy figures out who he wants to be and follows through.

Migoi

Unlike the other students of the Academy, Phil was unable to hide his appearance so rather than hiding away because of his appearance, Phil chose to embrace who he was and became an advocate for Transhumans. Of course it helped that, most, of his fellow classmates were supportive of his efforts; especially Autumn MacDonald. Over the course of their time at the school the two have fallen in love and just before the end of the last year began dating.
Getting a beast vibe from this guy.
From what I'm reading the school is pretty close knit and supportive, but if you were looking for some drama for the PCs to deal with you could have some people in the school having issues with his relationship with Blaze.

Some people might be loud, mean, or confrontational, but in a school? Probably more likely to run into teens belittling the two behind their backs. I suspect that Blaze would likely be getting the worst of the nasty comments and rumors.

Still some interesting trouble for the PCs to run into and possibly try to resolve. Also a good way to make friends with those two if they were willing to stand up for them.

Recently she finds herself romantically drawn to two of her classmates; Murphy Alexander and Jake Sheridan. Both have qualities she admires but their detractors keep her unsure of which one to pursue a relationship with, and as a result she is in a love triangle of sorts.
Probably says something about her character that the detractors have her second guessing herself, and she hasn't just stepped into their heads and checked for herself.

The image makes me laugh because his outfit makes him look like a slasher from a horror movie.
That being said, it looks like some serious combat armor.

Loving the students of Vanguard Academy!

Thus far Migoi is my fave, but I have a fondness for inhuman looking heroes.

Well, I figure it helps to give me something to throw at future PCs.

And yeah, I thought that pic was pretty awesome and fit the character for some reason.

Well, I'm trying to channel a bit more OG Marvel Girl rather than the Brought-from-the-past version.

Yeah, well honestly I hadn't planned on using that pic for Basilisk, but ended up not having any better images that fit what I was going for. Though now that I've looked at it a bit more since posting it I do like how it has that feel to it, as once I get him around PCs my thought was to play him as a bit "off" anyways in day-to-day interactions but is a tactical genius who's made the most of his training at the school.

Is it kind of telling that Murphy is one of the few students who doesn't have teamwork? ;~)

The "troublemaker" characters always interest me due to my own real life history.
Are they actually up to no good, and destined for trouble in the future?
Is Murphy a bad influence on those students, dragging them down from their potential and leading them towards a worse life?
Or is Murphy actually a good influence on some otherwise troubled students who'd be more likely to do far worse without a positive voice in their iife?

Also leads to an interesting question:
Who do you go to when you don't trust the official team?

Complications:

Background: A late addition to Beta Class (back when they were Delta Class), Kenzie Stein manifested her Transhuman abilities during a prank done to her at school when a bully locked her inside her locker. After playing around with her powers in secret, Kenzie put them to use by teaching some of the “troublesome” members of her class a few lessons in humility and whistle blowing on some of their more shadier dealings outside the school.

This drew attention from not only the Vanguard Academy, but the Brotherhood of Humanity as well. Unfortunately, the two factions ended up fighting once the members of the BoH realized they were dealing with Transhumans, things quickly took a violent turn during the struggle and the Steins were killed by stray fire of the BoH’s energy weapons. Luckily Vulcan, the representative of the Vanguard, alongside Gaia, Imp, and Kovar were able to get Kenzie to safety. Made a ward of the government, Kenzie was enrolled in the Vanguard Academy where she’s found a new family as well as friends.

Background: The daughter of two well to-do parents in the United Kingdoms, Geri Chisholm never had a problem fitting in. In fact she was the poster child for overachievement with being a member of debate team, chess team, the student council in addition to being a model student. Unfortunately, this came to a crashing end when an attack on her private school by members of Black Sun, who were looking for one of her classmates ironically enough, caused part of the school to collapse and trap several students under tons of rubble, with Geri among them. It took hours for rescue crews to locate those trapped and even more time to free them and it was during that time that Geri’s Transhuman powers manifested, allowing her to not only free herself but several of her friends. However, most of them thought Geri was the target of Black Sun’s attack on the school and she quickly became a pariah in her home town.

Luckily for Geri, her father had connections in the United States government due to his work and he was able to arrange for her to attend the Vanguard Academy, who were more than happy to offer the teenaged girl a place in their program. As a student at the Academy, Geri quickly assumed control of her class; finding both friends and rivals to her authority. However, when danger has appeared, the other members of Beta Class are quick to follow her lead.

Real Name: Addison “Addy” Broder
Height: 5’
Weight: 115 lbs
Hair: Black with red highlights (natural)
Eye Color: Yellow
Unusual Features: Reddish colored skin, spaded tail

Background: As an infant, Addy Broder was abandoned by her parents due to her demonic appearance, though the young girl was soon found and raised by a sympathetic family of circus performers traveling travelling to join a new tour. As Addy grew into youth and adolescence, her exotic appearance and natural agility allowed her to join the other performers as the “Impossible Imp”. Shortly after manifesting the ability to teleport over short distances, Addy was approached by representatives of the Vanguard Academy with an offer to attend that institution.

Apprehensive at first, Addy found a new family within the school. She especially bonded with Migoi, as they both share an inhuman appearance, and soon her outgoing personality earned the young girl several new friends amongst her classmates. Now as part of Beta Class, Addy is just starting to get serious with her training as she realizes that she has few other employment options after she graduates – she knows that very few people would be willing to hire her given her appearance. Therefore, becoming a member of the Vanguard is her only real choice, and she is proving to be a surprising able student.

Real Name: Nicolas “Nick” Peters
Height: 6’ (normal) / 6’8” (transformed)
Weight: 177 lbs (normal) / 354 lbs (transformed)
Hair: Black (shaved bald)
Eye Color: Blue

Complications:
Motivation ~Responsibility: Kovar wants to use his powers to atone for the misdeeds of other members of his extended family who have used their powers to commit numerous crimes.

Prejudice: Transhuman.

Relationships: Kovar is loyal to his classmates, family, and especially his girlfriend.

Weakness: Because of his metal form, Kovar is highly vulnerable to Magnetic based attacks.

Background: Nick Peters wasn’t very close to his cousins, Jimmy and Lisa Corrigan, though when they manifested their Transhuman powers and used them for criminal endeavors he became much more aware of them like so many other people did. Nick did realize what that meant for him – that there was a possibility that he would develop a similar set of powers himself. It was something that Nick’s parents realized as well and took steps to hide their relation to the Corrigan family.

In the end, it didn’t matter as Nick was involved in a car accident and the stress of the situation triggered the manifestation of his Transhuman powers that mirrored his cousins. It didn’t take very long for representatives from the Vanguard Academy to contact the Peters family with an offer for Nick to attend the government funded institution. After a long family talk it was decided that it would be in Nick’s best interest to attend, although Nick had his own reasons for going – he knew that the Vanguard recruit new members from the academy and he wants the opportunity to atone for the wrong doings of his cousins. All he needs to do is graduate in good enough standing to be offered a chance to audition for the governmentally funded team.

Attending the Vanguard Academy wasn’t too bad, he got to meet other Transhumans (some who had it way worse than he ever did) and soon gained new friends who understood much of the stresses Nick faced in life in a way nobody else ever could. Given the codename Kovar, he has come to enjoy his enhanced strength and durability while acting as the front-line combatant for his class. Along the way he’s also found romance with his classmate Mackenzie Stein, though at first it was terribly uncomfortable as he was taken with her the first time he met her which she quickly realized and often timed flirted with Nick in an obvious manner that many times embarrassed him as he’d had little experience with such things. Now the two are a couple, and many of their classmates who are close to the pair all agree that it is highly likely they will wed after they graduate.

Real Name: Diana Chapman
Height: 5’2"
Weight: 110 lbs
Hair: White
Eye Color: White
Unusual Features: Blue skin

Complications:
Guilt: Tsunami feels the burden of her actions done during the Silver Storm.

Prejudice: Transhuman.

PTSD: When Tsunami feels stressed out, she will have a flashback of her actions during the Silver Storm (leaving her defenseless until it ends).

Relationships: Tsunami is friends with a few of her fellow classmates, especially Viscosity.

Background: Diana Chapman was one of many victims of Black Sun’s Silver Storm; in her case she gained powers that let her manipulate water as well as several physical mutations that allow her to survive underwater to go along with the blue skin and white hair she now has.

None of that mattered at that moment however, as Diana was among the rioters after being transformed and was only stopped due to the efforts of the Vanguard. It took several days, but Diana eventually regained her composure only to realize what she had done and felt remorse for her actions that day. It was several months later that the powers that be at the Vanguard Academy were able to get Diana released into their custody so that she could get the help she needed in coping with her powers.

As part of Beta Class, Tsunami struggles to find her place. On one hand her best friend, Viscosity, is part of Murphy Alexander’s clique, but they have a reputation for be problematic and disruptive while Kenzie Stein and Geri Chisholm have always welcomed her into their circle of friends who seem to be less troublesome.

Real Name: Donna Pierce
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 132 lbs
Hair: Red
Eye Color: Silver

Complications:
Prejudice: Viscosity’s powers leave her looking like a metallic version of herself, which makes it difficult for her to blend into a crowd.

Relationships: Viscosity is friends with a few of her fellow classmates, especially Tsunami.

Weakness: Because of her body now being metal, Viscosity is vulnerable to Magnetic based effects.

Background: Another victim of Black Sun’s Silver Storm, Donna Pierce spent most of that event as a puddle of liquid metal as she had trouble maintaining a humanoid form when her powers first manifested. Thus, she was spared the incarceration experience her classmate Tsunami went through, and was enrolled at the Vanguard Academy several months earlier.

During that time she learned how to maintain her humanoid shape, though her attitude is one of snarkish rebellion which she directs mostly at the staff though several other students of the school have been the victim of her sharp wit. None the less she has found friendship within Murphy Alexander’s circle of friends, something that slightly worries the teaching staff given that group’s reputation of being troublemakers.
