Background: Orphaned at the age of seven after her parents were killed in a car crash, Jamie Moore was put into foster care. Several foster homes actually, due to her being emotional unstable because of losing her parents at a young age and was forced to see several therapists until she was placed in a psychiatric hospital. There her doctors discovered that Jamie was a Transhuman and it was her powers that were the major cause of her mental issues and worked up a medicine regiment to treat it.

After becoming stabilized Jamie was sent to the Vanguard Academy in the hope that that organization could help her develop better control over her powers so that one day she would not need to take medicine. Over the years Jamie has developed enough control over her powers to the point that she can blanket a large area, nullifying various forms of energy at will and can even affect the bio-electrical impulses of the human brain. Unfortunately, she’s not been able to regulate the energy her mind produces enough to stop taking her medicine, though she hopes that with more effort over the next couple of years that hurdle will be overcome.

Background: Jordan Greer’s life is nowhere close to what he expected it to be – manifesting Transhuman abilities at the age of thirteen, he quickly figured out their basics (that he was able to conceal himself from others) and put them to use in a way that any other teenage boy would do (the less said on that the better he says nowadays). Unfortunately, it was that behavior that led to Ghostworks learning about Jordan and his ability and it wasn’t very long before the shadowy organization had kidnapped the teen and began subjecting him to various tests to determine the limits of his concealing abilities.

Somewhere along the way one of the scientists decided that Jordan fit the parameters he needed for a test subject for a new series of cybernetic enhancements he’d developed, and Jordan was soon subjected to a number of painful operations where large portions of his body were replaced with “bio-cybernetics” that were meant to grow along with their host. Unlike the previous subjects, Jordan somehow survived the process and he seemed to adapt well to the bio-cybernetics.

Then fortune finally graced Jordan’s life; as he lay in an induced coma recovering from his latest bio-cybernetic implanting, the Ghostworks base was raided by the Vanguard and he was placed in governmental care. When Jordan woke up, he was informed about what had happened to him and was introduced to a number of government scientists ready to help him not only recover, but learn to use his new body as well as adapt to his new reality. When Jordan was healthy, he was sent to the Vanguard Academy, where he’s remained over the past couple of years and has made more than a full recovery thanks to the efforts of the school’s staff and students.

I 'member that, it's still true.

Course the OC builds happened because of a couple things, but I'm glad people are liking them. I plan on starting up a game in the setting soon (course that likely means a month or so). :D

So I'd planned on posting some more students from the Vanguard Academy (Delta Class), but between a fair amount of Overtime at work and my character building compulsion (which makes it hard for me to focus on big sets of builds as my mind wonders off on tangents A LOT). That said, I've built a couple of the teachers of the school in what little free time I've had, so I figured I might as well post them since a good build is always nice to share.

Hopefully after that I'll get back to the students (the actual builds are done, I'm just working on backgrounds for them), as well as fleshing out some of the other heroes of the setting.

Background: All Jack Bishop wanted to do with his life was to play music and nothing else, unfortunately his manifesting Transhuman abilities made that a bit more difficult. Despite his best efforts to hide his powers, Jack ended up revealing them to his friends and classmates and soon found himself attending the Vanguard Academy within a few weeks following threats from the community and several bits on TV news.

During the four years he attended the school, Jack continued to practice his guitar work and singing, opting to not partake on many of the side adventures his classmates found themselves going on. So, when he graduated Jack went to work on following his dream – taking a job as a roadie for a nationally known rock band. It didn't take Jack very long to build himself a reputation as a solid musician who could handle the road and soon he joined a band whose straightforward style of rock & roll quickly earned them many fans. Unlike so many other musicians of his generation, Jack kept clean while furthering his education when he had time off from touring or being in the studio working on new music.

But fame in the music business is a fickle thing and eventually Jack's style of music fell out of favor with the youth of the nation, but Jack had carefully managed his money and was able to live comfortably when his music career fizzled out. Always one to adapt to a situation, Jack turned his experiences behind a control board in the engineering booth on his band's albums into a solid reputation as a music producer. A few years ago, Jack was approached by those in charge of the Vanguard Academy with an offer for him to be the school’s music teacher. Ready for a change at this point in his life, Jack took the job and soon found himself living in interesting times once again.

Background: Donnie grew up in Brooklyn knowing from an early age that he was going to continue his family’s tradition of public service as a member of the NYPD, and was on the fast track to get his gold shield when his powers manifested while saving a little girl who had wandered out on a semi-frozen pond in Central Park and fallen in.

Transformed into a four-foot-tall duck-man, Donnie tried to continue on with his life but found trying to enforce the law much more difficult and was ultimately forced to retire. Luckily for him however, the government contacted him with an offer to be a teacher at the Vanguard Academy. Seeing little other options for himself, Donnie accepted and soon found himself wrapped up in the world of Transhumanity teaching the students all he could.

For the most part Donnie is happy, though he is frustrated by his appearance and tends to be something of a grump most of the time (something many students find amusing), however he does care about his students and is among the first amongst the staff to come to their aid.

Background: Dru Evans never would have known she’d manifested her Transhuman abilities if it hadn’t been for the car wreck her father had with some tourists in downtown New York – while everyone else only understood Mr. Evans’ rantings only she was able to understand his Chinse counterpart’s insulting take on her father’s parentage. What was even more shocking was when she verbally challenged the man in his own language, especially considering that Dru had never heard Mandarin Chinese before that day.

Luckily that fact was unknown to the surrounding bystanders and eventually the local police sorted things out.

Dru’s parents wanted to figure out what was going on with their little girl, and wasted no time in getting her examined by their family physician. After a long procession of consultations with various specialists it was determined that Dru was a Transhuman whose abilities focused on being able to speak and understand any form of language. This ultimately led to representatives of the Vanguard Academy approaching the Evans family with an offer for Dru to attend their specialized school, which was accepted as Dru’s parents wanted her to have the best opportunities possible.

Dru’s time at the school was mostly uneventful, as at that point the teaching staff were all members of the American military and were less willing to put up with the hi-jinks of teen-aged Transhumans (in other words any attempts to sneak out of the school and have “adventures” were met with very strict forms of discipline). Upon her graduation, Dru attended the college in Florida where she was a communications major and she graduated with honors. While she was scouting possible employment opportunities she was once again contacted by the Vanguard Academy, this time with a job offer. Seeing it as a way to pay back for what the school did for her, Dru accepted and has enjoyed teaching various languages and sometimes acting as a translator for the school when the need came up.

Accident: Ashmoore’s Eruption Array powers are tied to his emotional state; if he gets excited or angry, he may unwittingly trigger an earthquake or eruption.

Always On: Ashmoore is always transformed into his inhuman form. Because of this his sense of touch is greatly diminished, making it difficult for him to handle fragile items; TV remotes, game system controllers, glass items and such.

Power Loss: Ashmoore must be touching the ground (or something affixed to the ground) or begin to lose his Eruption Array Powers. After 1 round removed from the ground, Brian’s powers are Impaired. After another round, his powers area Disabled. He regains full use of his Eruption Array after spending an amount of rounds equal to how long he was separated from the ground.

Prejudice: Transhuman.

Reputation ~Smart Ass: Ashmoore tends to have a funny comment to say on any given situation, and will attempt to inject his brand of humor into what is currently going on.

Reputation ~Prankster: Ashmoore is becoming known for his pulling of pranks on his fellow students, which interestingly enough, is leading to a small rivalry with fellow student Imp.


Background: Brian Zimmerman was just one of the dozens of homeless teens in New York City, just a random face in the crowd, until recruiters of the criminal organization C.O.B.R.A. came around looking to add new members. Brian was exactly what they were looking for – no family ties, virtually willing to do anything for a hot meal and a safe place to sleep so it take very little time for Brian to be indoctrinated as a member. However, C.O.B.R.A. scientists had recently developed an empowerment processes that they decided to test it out on new recruits in case there were lethal side effects that would have to be dealt with before the process could be administered to more loyal soldiers.

Within days Brian was put through the processes, his body was transformed into “organic lava” while also being able to summon lava from the ground beneath him. Of the hundred “volunteers”, there were only five survivors (including Brian) that were quickly put through tests to determine the extent of their new powers and the transformations that they had undergone. It was after this several weeks long process that several of the survivors died as a result of their powers or the “testing” done to them that Brian attempted to escape from his tormentors, causing enough damage to C.O.B.R.A.’S facility to draw the attention of members of the Vanguard who were nearby. In the aftermath of the fight against C.O.B.R.A.’s agents, it was decided that Brian would attend the Vanguard Academy.

Since coming to the school, Brian has gotten used to the fact he can't return back to his human form. Though there are times he does get a bit depressed but in the end, he's glad he survived the process that gave him his powers, though as a way to vent his frustrations Brian has developed a sarcastic sense of humor and isn't afraid to use it. Most his fellow students understand why he does it and normally don't take anything he says too serious.

Reputation ~Just A Little Evil: Her classmates like her, but her teachers have seen Alexandria do things that are of a questionable nature. It doesn’t help that the Aurelia makes no excuses for her past actions – stating that they were “necessary at the time”.

Prejudice: Transhuman.

Power Loss: Alexandria requires her hands free and must be able to speak to use her spell-casting abilities.



Background: Very little is known about Alexandria’s life prior to her being kidnapped by the Brimstone House. Somehow that gathering of mages and wizards learned that she was part of the Aurelius’ bloodline and thus able to cast any kind of spell known to man, which was something they wanted in an agent if that agent was conditioned the right way.

Thus, Alexandria was raised by the Brimstone House for several years, learning a great deal of magic under their harsh tutelage, in addition to adopting some of that group’s more ruthless tendencies. Eventually Alexandria was deemed trained and ready to act in the House’s name, and for a few years carried out their orders without question. Then she ran afoul of the current Aurelius who quickly realized his, extended, relation to the girl and spent the next several months trying to get her away from her corrupt captors/employers.

Needless to say, Alexandria fought him almost every step of the way until the older mage produced proof of what had happened to her family that directly clashed with what she’d been told – that her family had given her up to the Brimstone House, while in reality the Brimstone House had killed them when they took Alexandria to prevent any potential rescues. Armed with that knowledge Alexandria helped the Aurelius deal a serious blow to the Brimstone House’s operations before leaving them for good.

While Alexandria thought she was going to become the Aurelius’ apprentice, the mage didn’t feel ready to be the sole teacher of the next generation of mages. Thus, he arranged for the girl to attend the Vanguard Academy while supplying them with “additional teaching aids” to help the girl develop her spell-casting abilities.

Alexandria is just starting to feel comfortable around the rest of Delta Class, though given some of their adventures over the past year it’s not too surprising as only they are the only ones who can relate to the things she’s been through at this point. Though the fact she is the one to suggest the use of “non-heroic” alternatives to solve the group’s problems does bother some of the other students as well as the staff, but Alexandria is trying to be better about exploring other options first.

It’s just hard to change old habits.

Background: Jacob Chevalier was an extreme sports enthusiast who loved to ride anything that would go fast; skateboards, bikes, and motorcycles to name a few. He’d ride anything that would propel him faster than his own two legs, and by the time he was 14, Jacob had broken several bones in his body while performing a crazy stunt.

A lot of this came from the knowledge that his older cousin, Alex, had been the Transhuman hero Propulsion, and a member of the Vanguard. Jacob knew he there was a strong possibility that he could develop the same kind of powers and had spent years trying to force their manifestation. However, it wasn't until he was skydiving and his parachute malfunctioned that left him plummeting hundreds of miles towards the ground that Jacob found himself coming to a sudden halt and surrounded by a field of energy. Realizing that he'd finally succeeded, the teen then spent the next several minutes taking his newly gained powers for a test flight before coming down to the ground and his waiting friends.

After weeks of practicing with his powers Jacob posted several of his flying antics on the web, which brought him to the attention of the Vanguard Academy and soon he was enrolled in the school where the staff began to teach him how to better control his powers. Jacob is thrilled to be at the school as he knows that it could lead to him becoming part of the Vanguard, like his cousin had done, and it’s a goal he keeps in mind while attending his classes.

Power Loss: Eclipse’s powers rely on solar energy, thus it is possible for him to over exert his powers if used too much. After 5 rounds of continuous use he must make a Fortitude Check [DC 15] or become Power Impaired, while a second failure results in unconsciousness.

Relationships: Eclipse is close with the other members of Delta Class as well as several of the other students of the Vanguard Academy.

Spoilin' For A Fight: Eclipse tends to use his enhanced strength as a way to solve most of his problems.

Temper: Eclipse tends to be hot-headed.



Background: Rafael Juliá was raised believing that his father died an innocent bystander of a gang shoot out, while the truth of the matter was that he was actually the son of the super villain Sundown and that his mother wanted to shield him from that kind of influence as much as possible.

However, fate took a different stance when in a moment of intense anger during a fight, Rafael manifested his powers and knocked his opponent across the street and into the side of a building, nearly killing the gang-banger. Unfortunately, that not only brought Rafael to the attention of the Vanguard Academy but to that of Orion, who was very bothered by the young Transhuman’s “criminal action” and had decided to do something about it to make an example out of him. Luckily the Academy sent a couple members of the student body to recruit Rafael and they were able to help him deal with his new-found problem.

The ensuing fight was surprisingly not as one sided as one might expect, and in the course of the following battle Justina, Rafael’s girlfriend, sacrificed herself to protect Rafael by jumping in front of a blast meant for him. The student’s efforts to save her brought the battle to a stop, which allowed Orion to escape, though Justina died from her injuries despite their efforts. Because of that, Rafael agreed to go to the Vanguard Academy where he has been working hard on developing a set of skills that he hopes will allow him to eventually become a member of the Vanguard so that he can help others avoid what happened to him.

Though one thing Rafael keeps to himself is that he hopes to one day encounter Orion again and make the racist villain pay for what he did to Justina.

Background: Wendy Marcum’s powers manifested when she became trapped in her home while it was on fire, and while they saved her in the long run it made things much more difficult for her as she was left completely transformed physically as her body was now made of more metal than flesh. The fact she had been orphaned by the fire didn’t help matters either, as Wendy’s few remaining relatives were willing to open up their homes to such an obvious Transhuman. In the end she was made a ward of the State, which led to her being brought to the Vanguard Academy to help her understand her powers and be better able to control them.

In her down time Wendy spends a large amount of her time reading various sci-fi and fantasy books, it is a past time she enjoys so much that she based her codename on one of her favorite writers. Her teachers worry that Wendy is slowly closing herself off from others because of her "inhuman" nature and the loss of her family, and are trying to draw her out more but are having limited success so far.
