...I swear I was going to return that. And that. And that. And that, too! I'm just behind schedule and it's not my fault. I expected the Dreamberry wine to run out two days ago... - Pergathon

Abilities 78 + Skills 70 (140 ranks) + Advantages 29 + Powers 56 + Defenses 20 = 253 / 253

Comments: Pergathon, played by my friend Kyle, was the happy go lucky halfling thief. Kyle is one of the funniest guys I know and he kept my laughing all the time while we played and he was a great gamer. He moved to Iowa our sophomore year of high school but we stayed in touch through the years and we had some great party weekend in our younger days.

For my new backstory for him here, he’s happy on the outside, but very sad on the inside as he longs to find his real parents. When we played, he was one of our best combatants, having a modified belt of Ogre Strength so there was this 3 ft tall Halfling flining big dudes around. It was fun stuff.

Pergathon at this point in his life is similar to King Xander in that he longs for the adventuring life, but with a wife at home and his appointment by the king to be the Master of Espionage for the kingdom, he has responsibilities that preclude him from resuming his adventuring life. He has turned to the bottle a bit (a bit too much for his wife’s taste, although she remains loyal) and Xander and Sian have had to get him out of a bit of trouble as he continues his thieving ways “just to stay in practice” he says. Most of the time, he steals stuff and returns it quickly just to prove he can since he is loaded thanks to his sales of procured items over the years, but when he’s drunk, sometimes he forgets.

Dodge +6 (+18 with Mystic Shield) [DC16/28] Parry +6 (+18 with Mystic Shield) [DC16/28]
Toughness +8 (+4 Impervious), Fortitude +7, Will +13

COMPLICATIONS:
Daddy Issues: Marada was shunned by her father who was ashamed that she began to study magic and still hopes for his eventual approval.
Power Loss: She cannot cast her spells if she cannot gesture and/or speak.
Power Loss: Arcane spellcasters require mana, the ambient magical energy that courses through Gloriant, in order to cast their spells. Attempting to draw on too much mana at one time, being in a low mana area or attempting to draw upon mana that is incompatible with their arcane focus can cause them to lose their ability to cast spells
Relationships: Her friends, Xander Daellion, Pergathon, Balderron, Sian and her mentor Sherana.
Reputation: There are rumors about her dabbling in the darker side of magic.
Rivalry: She respects Queen Diiva Daellion, Xander's wife, but because of her longtime feelings for him, she still finds herself trying to compete with her.

Abilities 56 + Skills 45 (90 ranks) + Advantages 31 + Powers 140 + Defenses 17 = 289 / 289

Comments: Mairada is the party’s wizard. She is based on my original magic user that started with an M that I cannot remember. So I made him in her in this new continuity. She became friends with Xander, Pergathon, Pergathon, and Sian when they were young and she has been in love with Xander for as long as she can remember, although it is unrequited. She is also very close to Pergathon, who she has always seen as a little brother. Although Sian thinks he has feeling for her, which has made things interesting in the group from time to time over the years.

Mairada has become one of the most powerful sorcerers/sorceresses in Gloriant. She’s the party’s second biggest hitter behind Xander and by far the most versatile. Pergathon says it’s about time she pulled her considerable weight after them protecting her all these years. She turned him into a frog for that smart remark.

I went all out on her spells, pulling from old D&D spells and the Mystic Powers Power Profile. I might add more, even. I am trying to think of a cool familiar for her to have, so when I do, I will use up those Sidekick points.

Unarmed +8 [Unarmed +8; Rend +8]
Ranged Attack +0

Dodge +4 [DC14] Parry +6 [DC16]
Toughness +10 (+10 without Defensive Roll, +3 Impervious), Fortitude +10, Will +3

COMPLICATIONS:
Disability: Primadoxes cannot speak humanoid languages.
Sink Like a Stone: Because of their density, Primadoxes cannot swim very well. They suffer a -5 penalty to all Swimming checks, and must spend Extra Effort to keep their heads above water.

Abilities 18 + Skills 9 (18 ranks) + Advantages 3 + Powers 30 + Defenses 7 = 67 / 67

Comments: A Primadox is a creature from the MTG setting that is basically a bigger gorllia with tusks. It’s nothing special game-wise but it looks bad ass, so it has a home in my fantasy setting.

228 - Baloth

If a Baloth isn't hungry, it's dead.

BALOTH
PL8

OPL: 8; DPL: 8; HP: 0

ABILITIES: STRENGTH 10, STAMINA 9, AGILITY 1, DEXTERITY 0, FIGHTING 6, INTELLECT -4, AWARENESS 1, PRESENCE -3

SKILLS: Athletics 2 (+12), Deception (-3), Insight (+1), Intimidation 10 (+7/+11), Perception 4 (+5), Persuasion (-3), Stealth (+1/-7)

ADVANTAGES: Diehard

POWERS:
Baloth Size: Growth 8 (+8 Str, +8 Sta, -4 Dodge/Parry, -8 Stealth, +4 Intimidation, Speed +1 [4 mph/60 fpr], +8 Mass, Reach 2 [10 ft]; Extra: Innate, Permanent); 17 pts
Baloth Senses: Senses 4 (Infravision, Low-light Vision, Scent [Acute, Extended]); 4 pts
Baloth Hide: Protection 3, Impervious Toughness 7; 10 pts
Claws/Bite: Strength-based Damage 0 (Extra: Dangerous, Split, Variable Desciptor [Piercing/Slashing]); 3 pts

EQUIPMENT:
NONE

OFFENSE:
Initiative +1
Close Attack +6 [Unarmed +10; Claws/Bite +10, Critical 19-20]
Ranged Attack +0

DEFENSES:
Dodge +3 [DC13] Parry +4 [DC14]
Toughness +12 (+12 without Defensive Roll, +4 Impervious), Fortitude +11, Will +4

COMPLICATIONS:
Bottomless Pit: If a Baloth isn't hungry, it's dead.
Disability: Baloth's cannot speak humanoid languages and cannot use it's claws for fine manipulation.
Vulnerable: Baloths are only functionally homeothermic so they do not deal with cold well. Consider them Impaired on all checks against cold-based effects.

Abilities 8 + Skills 8 (16 ranks) + Advantages 1 + Powers 34 + Defenses 13 = 64 / 64

Comments: Baloths are beasts that appear on a few planes in the MTG setting. They’re generally “vanilla” cards, meaning that don’t normally have another abilities than their Attack and Toughness scores, which for Baloths are usually pretty high since they’re big, aggressive creatures.

In Gloriant, they can be found in jungles and temperate forest all over the continent, hunting almost constantly since they are always hungry.

SKILLS: Athletics 1 (+8), Deception (+0), Insight 2 (+4), Intimidation (+0/+2), Perception 3 (+5), Persuasion (+0), Stealth (-1/-5)

ADVANTAGES: Chokehold, Equipment (1), Fast Grab, Languages (1) (2 others, Base: Loxodon), Ranged Attack (3)

POWERS:
Loxodon Size: Growth 4 (+4 Str, +4 Sta, -2 Dodge/Parry, -4 Stealth, +2 Intimidation, Speed +0, +4 Mass, Reach [5 ft]; Extra: Innate, Permanent); 9 pts
Loxodon Senses: Senses 4 (Low-light Vision, Scent [Acute, Extended]); 4 pts

EQUIPMENT:
(5 pts)
Warhammer: Bludgeoning Strength-based Damage 2; 2 pts

OFFENSE:
Initiative –1
Close Attack +5 [Unarmed +7; Warhammer +9; Tusks +8]
Ranged Attack +3

DEFENSES:
Dodge +3 [DC13] Parry +4 [DC14]
Toughness +9, Fortitude +8, Will +4

COMPLICATIONS:
Responsibility: Loxodons are general very peaceful, social and loyal to their tribe and allies. Many are often very devoted to their gods.
Temper: Despite their generally peaceful nature, when provoked, they can fly into terrible rages and are very fierce warriors.

Abilities 22 + Skills 3 (6 ranks) + Advantages 5 + Powers 27 + Defenses 11 = 68 / 68

Comments: I love elephant men so I had to add them for my fantasy setting. Loxodons are humanoid elephants, and are often oases of calm in the world. They hum or chant in their sonorous tones and move slowly or sit in perfect stillness. Provoked to action, loxodons are holy terrors—bellowing with rage, trumpeting and flapping their ears. Their still wisdom and their furious strength—as well as their fierce loyalty and unwavering conviction— are tremendous assets to their allies and nightmares to their foes.

Moving forward, for my races, I'm going to give an example of an archetype for them and then a template that can be used to build a PC in my games. So I above is the Smiter, based on the MTG card and here is the template.

Comments: The Anubis inspired Khenra of Sekhumkhet are tall and lean, with heads closely resembling jackals. Their snouts are long and sharp, and their angular ears rise straight above their heads. Their bodies are covered in dark, sleek hair that ranges from the brown of the desert sands to ebony black. Despite their sharp teeth, they consider biting to be an uncouth and unworthy combat tactic. Nearly every khenra is born a fraternal or identical twin, and a pair of khenra twins forms an extremely close emotional bond unknown to most other residents of Sekhumkhet. The rare khenra who are born without twins are believed to have killed their siblings in the womb, and are thus viewed as natural-born initiates, sure to achieve a glorified death in the Trial of Zeal.

Their instinctual connection lends itself well to their preferred fighting style. Most khenra worship Hazoret, who is known to favour them among her viziers. Other khenra choose to distance themselves from Hazoret and the reckless battle frenzy she encourages. They devote themselves instead to honing their physical strength, resilience, and adaptability, inspired and guided by the teachings of Rhonas. These khenra have a great fondness for wrestling (or tussling, as they often call it), and they keep careful track of the matches they win and lose against other initiates. They often seek out matches against minotaurs, enjoying the challenge of pitting their sinewy strength against the brute muscle of larger and heavier opponents.

Not dead folks, just hibernating. ;)

Getting back into things with some fantasy stuff after a lot of D&D work as of late. Got the Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica for Christmas and it's great. I changed my Backstab mechanic and I'm working on some other PC updates to get them ready for more testing against some new builds.
