Power Loss: Sometimes the flu, a radiation drain or just his own mental state can cause him lose his powers. If he does, his stats change to STR 1, STA 2, AGL 2, DEX 2, and FGT 3.
Power Loss: Those web shooters seem to run out of fluid at the most inopportune times.

Responsibility: With great power comes great…
Secret Identity: Pavitr Prabhaka, college student.,

Abilities 90 + Skills 19 (38 ranks) + Advantages 5 + Powers 85 + Defenses 11 = 210 / 210

Build Comments: I really liked Spider Man: India in Spider-Verse. I also liked how they copied Pete’s origin story point by point, but just shifted everything to India and the fact that he noticed when he met the other Spiders, making him doubt his importance to the group. He overcame it and became a great addition to the main team, which is also a common trait among the Spiders.

Secret Origins: Pavitr Prabhakar of Earth-69, a poor Indian boy, lived in a village, but moves to Mumbai with his aunt Maya and uncle Bhim to study after getting half a scholarship. His parents died some years ago. Other boys at the school tease him and beat him. He knows his uncle Bhim is struggling to support him and his aunt Maya, and pay the school. Only Meera Jain, a girl from school, befriends him. Meanwhile, Nalin Oberoi, a local crimelord, uses an amulet to perform an ancient ritual, where he gets possessed by a demon committed to opening the gate for other demons to get back to Earth. While being chased by other kids, Pavitr encounters an ancient yogi who gives him the power of a spider, to fight the evil that threatens the world. While discovering his powers, Pavitr refuses to help a woman being attacked by several men. He leaves the place, but comes back when he hears his uncle's cry, who was stabbed when he tried to help the woman. Thus Paviitr understands that with great power comes great responsibility.

The Story so Far: Next, Nalin Oberoi becomes human again, transforms his doctor into Doctor Octopus (without the usual mechanical arms, he has demon arms that look's similar to his mechanical arms), and sends him to kill Spider-Man, as instructed by the demon voices. Doc Ock fails, and Spider-Man makes it to the newspapers, where he is deemed a threat.

Oberoi kidnaps Pavitr's aunt, taking her to a refinery outside Mumbai. There he betrays Doctor Octopus, blasting him away with a ray. Spider-Man arrives and fights Oberoi, who has also kidnapped Meera. He lets both aunt Maya and Meera fall. Spider-Man dives for his aunt, but then fails to rescue Meera, who is saved by Doctor Octopus, that is just coming back to exact revenge on Oberoi. Pavitr reveals his identity to Meera and asks her to take his aunt away.

Oberoi gets rid of Doctor Octopus for good, and touches Spider-Man with the amulet. A Venom-like creature tries to take Spider-Man to the dark side, but he remembers his uncle and rejects the evil. By doing so, the link between the demons and Oberoi is shattered, and he becomes human again.

Everything goes back to normal, Spider-Man gets the girl, and celebrates the Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, with his aunt.

Sometime later, Spider-Man is encountered by Superior Spider-Man (Otto Octavius), who saves him from certain death by Karn. He joins the team of Spider-Men from many dimensions to battle the Inheritors. When they met up with the other Spiders and meeting Spider-Man Ben Parker, Pavitr suffered an existential crisis regarding to the overwhelming number of similarities between himself and the other Spider-Totems, especially the Peter Parker of Earth-217, in which Pavitr felt like he and the others are echoes or distorted reflections of the Earth-217 Peter, and therefore expendable in the coming battle against the Inheritors. However, his worries were refuted by Spider-UK, who stated that each Spider-Man is unique and special in their own way.

Disability: In the Scorpion suit, the pincers keep him from doing fine manipulation with his hands.
Hatred: He loathes J. Jonah Jameson for turning him into what he is and he hates Spider-Man for foiling his plans so many times.
Mental Instability: His enhancements and constant failures have made him mentally unstable.

Abilities 76 + Skills 17 (34 ranks) + Advantages 4 + Powers 33 + Defenses 4 = 134 / 134

Build Comments: When they made Mac Scorpion again, I wasn’t sure if I liked it. He was pretty wicked as Venom. But it’s hard to argue with having Eddie Brock back as Venom so I guess he can have some old school fun in his old incarnation.

Secret Origins: Former private investigator Mac Gargan was hired by J. Jonah Jameson to find out how Peter Parker was able to get incredible pictures of Spider-Man. Gargan's efforts to locate Peter in order to find out the truth triggered Parker's spider sense, making him easily avoidable every time.

Frustrated, Jameson decided to pay $10,000 to Gargan to be the subject of an experiment. The experiment, created by Dr. Farley Stillwell, a researcher in animal mutation, endowed the subject with the characteristic of another animal. Unfortunately the process resulted in the loss of Gargan's sanity, and the creation of the super-powered criminal menace known as the Scorpion.

The Story so Far: Over the years Scorpion fought and was bested by Spider-Man many times. Most of these confrontations were the result of Spider-Man stepping in on an attempt on the life of Jameson, who Gargan hated even more than Spider-Man. With his mechanical tail, speed, and strength, Scorpion was always been more than a match for Spider-Man. Only the skill, experience, and quick wit of the web head helped him defeat Gargan.

Later on, Scorpion was recruited by Norman Osborn, informed of Spider-man's secret identity, and ordered to kidnap Peter's Aunt May if anything should happen to Osborn. In the middle of his task Scorpion was approached by the recently freed Venom Symbiote. Seeking a new host that shared both its hatred of Spider-Man as well as the will and experience of a seasoned criminal, the symbiote bonded with the Scorpion, who eagerly accepted the offer, and was transformed into the monstrous new Venom.

Gargan was bonded to the Venom symbiote for years. At times, he expressed fear of the control the symbiote possessed over him, yet he became addicted to the raw unearthly power it brought to him, and could not begin to imagine life without it, similar to a drug addict. He became a member of the Thunderbolts and Osborn’s Dark Avengers.

At one point, Gargan and the Thunderbolts are called back to New York to capture Spider-Man. While on a search for the wall-crawler, Gargan's symbiote senses a former host at the F.E.A.S.T center. Gargan suspected that it was Spider-Man and searches the place only to find Eddie Brock, the original Venom. The Venom symbiote attempted to leave Gargan to re-bond with Brock, much to Gargan's (and Brock's) dismay. However, upon making contact with Brock, Brock's skin was shown to be caustic to his former symbiote, and as a white substance seeped out of his pores covering his body, Brock became Anti-Venom and battled Gargan.

With some help from Spider-Man, Brock subdued Gargan and nearly destroyed the symbiote. Norman Osborn used a sample of the Anti-Venom's symbiote from Mac Gargan and created a poisonous counter to its healing powers by combining the sample with the immune system of Freak. Mac Gargan was injected with the "cure" and was given a new Scorpion battlesuit, which contained the poison, until the symbiote could recover. Anti-Venom tracked down Gargan at Oscorp. After a grueling battle "Ven-orpion" injected the poison into Anti-Venom and seemingly killed the suit. He then attempted to kill Brock but the symbiote tried holding him back, still caring for its former host. The symbiote gained its strength and broke though the Scorpion suit. Gargan gave up but promised that he would get past this problem and would someday finish Brock.

Venom and the Dark Avengers attacked Asgard on Norman Osborn's authority. He battled the Asgardians and the heroes who came to their aid. He soon realized that defeat and bitter retribution was inevitable and chose to enjoy himself by devouring Asgardians. He was soon confronted by Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel who ripped Gargan from his symbiote. Gargan and the Dark Avengers were arrested.

Mac Gargan was sent to the Raft where the Venom Symbiote was removed by the military. Since the symbiote was keeping him alive as it was preventing the negative effects of his genetic tampering in check, Gargan began to develop health problems without his Scorpion suit or the symbiote to keep the harmful effects of his mutation from endangering his life. A disguised Alistaire Smythe was able to break him out and provide him with a new Scorpion suit that saved his life and explained his plans for them to work together with the other Spider-Slayers he had to get revenge on Mayor Jameson and his friends and family due to the fact they both suffered because of Jameson's past actions. In the following attacks the Slayers were defeated thanks to the intervation of Spider-Man and the New Avengers and both he and Alistair were arrested. But not before Smythe was able to kill Jameson's wife Marla.

Characterization/Friends and Foes: Gargan is a petty and vindictive man that seems to have only one purpose in his life; destroying Spider-Man.

They kind of addressed it during the Spider-Verse event, although not with all 3 in particular. The whole thing was the about the Web of Life and Destiny that binds all the Spider totems across the multiverse, a concept that started when the introduced Ezekial Sims and Morlun years ago. I'm not sure how I feel about it as a concept overall, but it got us a moment where Morlun went to eat the Spider-Man of the newspaper comics and was thwarted because the series kept resetting and he gave up. So there's definitely something mystical to it because they tie the Great Web to pretty much every version of Spidey that there's ever been and you can't do that without a little magic.

Rivalry: The Curt Connors side and The Lizard side are generally at odds and the inner squabbling can cause issues for both personas.
Vulnerable: The Lizard is cold-blooded and vulnerable to cold effects, taking an extra degree of failure against cold based attack in addition to suffering fatigued, exhausted, and asleep conditions from cold effects or in cold temperatures.

Abilities 70 + Skills 16 (32 ranks) + Advantages 7 + Powers 96 + Defenses 8 = 197 / 197

Build Comments: Man, oh man, did The Lizard kick ass in his featured run in The Gauntlet a few years back. In Shed, The Lizard persona “killed” his Curt Connors persona and unfettered by that, he started controlling people’s amygdalas, making them lizard like in their actions where they were more aggressive, sexual and well, lizardlike, but still seemingly knowing what they were doing as shown here:

It was wicked. Sadly, though, he killed Connors' son and the worst part was his son basically saying he knew it was coming all along. The internal screaming of Curt Connors was really creepy. Connors has since returned, taking control of The Lizard again, but we know that won’t last very long.

Anyway you can easily kill off his mind control and go with Reptile Control for a classic Lizard but as noted, his Shed incarnation has become one of my faves.

Secret Origins: Having lost his arm in an explosion while helping G.I.s, Curt Connors decided to create a formula to regrow his arm. He used the limb regrowth of reptiles as a model. However, the serum transformed him into the Lizard.

The Story so Far: After being stopped from sending his army of reptiles to conquer the world by Spider-Man he was tricked into drinking an antidote changing him back into Connors.

However, sometimes, when under stress Connors reverted back into the Lizard. When it was discovered Martha and Billy were dying of radiation poisoning Billy was sent to live with Curt's sister and Martha died. The Lizard went peacefully to jail after killing a scientist who won what could have been his research grant but was freed by Norman Osborn to join the Sinister Twelve. After the disbanding of the twelve, the Lizard disappeared from the public.

More recently, the Lizard resurfaced to face Spider-Man with the aid of a pint-sized "twin" of himself, who was revealed to be none other than his son, Billy. Curt had injected Billy with the Lizard formula while under the influence of a mysterious meteorite that caused savage behavior in those within range of its radiation. Both the Lizard and "Lizard Junior" were eventually captured and transformed back to humans, but the future effects of the Lizard formula on Billy Connors remain to be seen.

A new version of the Sinister Six, including the Lizard, appeared during Civil War, but were stopped by Captain America and his Secret Avengers. Since the Lizard was never a member of the original Sinister Six, the circumstances of his involvement with this recent group of villains has yet to be revealed.

After Lizard's last appearance, he was able to kill Connors' son Billy. That killed Curt's consciousness and made a new creature of Lizard, the Shed. It possessed Connors' intellect and new powers. Spider-Man tried to defeat him but he failed.

After using Connor's serum, which made him immune to Shed's new psychic powers, Spider-Man showed Shed pictures of Billy and "put pictures in his head". Shed started to feel ashamed, and he understood that there was much more to learn and understand for him. He ran off to an unknown place where he continued to capture some humans to call them his "pets".

After most of the Spider-Man villains were hired to capture Lily Hollister's and Norman Osborn's newborn son, the Lizard was the second (after Chameleon) to get the child. Connors took the newborn to his "nest" where he did tests on it to see if the infant was a special new species. Soon after, Spider-man showed up to the nest along with Doctor Octopus whom the Lizard took control of to fight Spider-Man.

Doc Ock was subdued and Spidey went to get the child from the Lizard who informed Peter that the boy was a useless new species and wasn't actually Norman Osborn's son. Doctor Octopus arrived again and battled the Lizard for taking control of his mind. Spider-Man left the scene with the infant at hand.

After Morbius worked with Horizon Labs in a cure for the spider-virus during the massive infection in New York, he started searching for a cure for himself and his friend, Curt Connors.
He finally developed a successful cure which Spider-Man injected in the Lizard, turning him back to human form, but keeping his reptilian-mind, although he pretended he was totally cured to start creating a serum to turn back to the Lizard physically.

After testing the serum in many Horizon employees, Curt injected himself with it, soon before being discovered by Carlie Cooper, Curt escaped until Spider-Man managed to take him out of Horizon, when his transformation was fully completed, into a new and stronger form of the Lizard.

Using a cure developed by Morbius, Spider-Man managed to defeat the Lizard, but not to revert him to his human state. The Lizard was finally captured and put into custody in the Raft, where he realized his human consciousness took over his reptilian body, stating that was the punishment he deserved.

Characterization: The Lizard is one of Spider-Man’s oldest and deadliest foes while ironically, his alter ego is a close friend and former teacher of Spidey’s alter ego Peter Parker..

Friends and Foes: He retains his dislike of Spider-Man in his Lizard form most of the time and up until recently, he refused to hurt his wife before her death and his son, Billy, but the changes into his Shed form changed that.

Abilities 76 + Skills 18 (36 ranks) + Advantages 4 + Powers 73 + Defenses 6 = 177 / 177

Build Comments: I lovesssss me ssssssome SSSSSStegron. When I was a kid, I loved the SSSSStegron ssssstoriesssss becausssse of the way he talkssssssssss and on top of that, what little boy doesn’t love dinosaursssss?

He’s mainly jusssst a Lizard sssssubssssstitute, but come on, he controlssss dinosaurssssss. He should be a bigger deal.

Secret Origins: Dr. Vincent Stegron was working as an assistant to Dr. Curtis Connors (the human alter-ego of the Lizard) on a project for SHIELD that used dinosaur tissue supplied by Ka-Zar from the Savage Land. Vincent became obsessed with the Lizard experiments and decided to steal (or "sssteal", in Stegron-speak) the dinosaur extract. He fled to the Savage Land and ingested the formula, turning himself into a Dinosaur Man.

The Story so Far: Spider-Man traveled to the Savage Land, teamed up with Ka-Zar and found Stegron in full reptile mode, ruling over the Swamp-Men. When Spidey and Ka-Zar beat up on his Swamp-Men, Stegron escaped to New York on a flying Ark. Stegron then led a stampede of dinosaurs down Broadway. He was stopped by Spider-Man and the Black Panther and tried to escape on a pterodactyl. Instead he was knocked into the water by Spider-Man and sank like a rock.

Stegron reduced his metabolism and eventually drifted to shore. He returned to Manhattan, kidnapped Billy Connors and forced Curt Connors to work for him. He created a "retro-generation ray" that animated the dinosaur skeletons at the Natural History museum. Under the strain of Billy's kidnapping, Curt Connors turned into the Lizard and went after Stegron. Unfortunately, Stegron chose December to start his plan and eventually succumbed to the cold weather. He sliped under the ice on a Central Park lake and disappeared from sight.

Somehow Stegron survived, reverted to human form and became a homeless resident of the park. In the wrong place at the wrong time, he got hit by a stray shot from a Nuclear Blaster wielded by the Vulture and was changed back into the Dinosaur Man. He returned to the Museum of Natural History, with plans to create a race of dinosaur people but ended up in the midst of a struggle between Spider-Man and the "Lethal Foes", Doctor Octopus, the Vulture, the Rhino, the Beetle, Boomerang, the Answer, Swarm, Strikeback, and Hardshell. Stegron tried to steal the Nuclear Blaster to create his dinosaur army but instead got blasted into unconsciousness by Strikeback.

Now, growing more and more bestial, Stegron's only desire was to return to his home in the Savage Land. He stowed away on a supply ship bound for Antarctica and got into a SHIELD observation post where he began killing off scientists. Midnighter, the Black Panther and the Black Widow answered the distress call. Midnighter and the Panther released Stegron to the outside elements. The Dinosaur Man tried to make it to the Savage Land but came up just short, felled by the harsh cold of Antarctica.

Stegron fell into hibernation, frozen inside a glacier. He thawed and joined the Savage Land battle between Spider-Man, Ka-Zar, Shanna the She-Devil, and the Roxxon Oil Company. Stegron opted for fighting on the side of the good guys against Roxxon, and walked off into the sunset at the end vowing, next time, to be everybody's enemy.

Characterization: Stegron is obsessed with bringing about a new age of the dinosaurs.

Friends and Foes: He has had run-ins with several heroes over the years, but his greatest rivalry is with Spider-Man.

Abilities 46 + Skills 20 (40 ranks) + Advantages 5 + Powers 111 + Defenses 17 = 199 / 199

Build Comments: In Spider-Verse, one of the first Spider-Men to be killed by The Inheritors was the Spider-Man of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. They took out Iceman and Firestar, too, just for good measure. So I figure that qualifies my Iceman to be part of this Spider-Verse run. And yes, Firestar is coming next...

Bobby is probably the least interesting of the original X-Men to me. I mean, I like him and I’ve always loved his power set, but I think of all of them he’s had the least character development over his 40+ years of existence in the Marvel U. But be that as a it may, man he does have a wicked power set, full of useful abilities and a ton of power stunting options. And this is a scared down version, IMHO. When he really cuts loose, he’s a more of a PL12, but the writers usually keep him pretty much in check, despite his Omega Level Mutant status. As such, he came out to be a balanced PL10.

Secret Origins: Robert Louis Drake was born in Floral Park, Long Island, New York to William Robert Drake and Madeline Beatrice Bass-Drake. Bobby is Jewish on his mother's side and Irish Catholic on his father's. Bobby first discovered his mutant abilities at a young age when he found himself unable to stop feeling cold and shivering. A school bully named Rocky Beasely convinced his gang to attack Bobby and Judy Harmon, his girlfriend at the time. Bobby panicked and encased Rocky in ice, saving Judy, but revealing his abilities to his peers. Believing Bobby to be a dangerous mutant, the people of his town, Fort Washington, organized a lynch mob. The mob broke into the Drake household and overpowered them. The local sheriff noticed that things were getting out of hand and took Bobby into custody for his own protection. The story made its way to Professor Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men.

Xavier sent Scott Summers, Cyclops, to recruit Bobby. After Bobby turned him down the two mutants got into a brief scuffle before the mob caught up with them. The mob was stringing Scott and Bobby up to be hanged when Professor X used his telepathic abilities to erase their memories. Grateful for saving his life and yearning to be like Scott, Bobby enrolled in Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and become the second member of the X-Men. There, the X-Men were tutored by Professor X and trained in the use of their powers in the Danger Room. As 'Iceman' Bobby learned to control his abilities in order to protect a world that feared and hated him for being different alongside Cyclops, Angel, Beast, and Marvel Girl.

Iceman quickly befriended Beast, however, he remained self-conscious regarding the fact that he was the youngest member of the group. Iceman's lighthearted approach to disaster marked him as the comedian of the group, and eased tension among his teammates. Bobby's rudimentary control of his abilities caused his appearance to be snowman-like at first, rather than the almost transparent ice version of his later years. Alongside the X-Men, he battled many foes including Magneto and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. In time Bobby learned to cover himself in ice instead of his original snow man appearance.

The Story so Far: Bobby was among the original X-Men captured by Krakoa, which led to the formation of a new incarnation of X-Men. Bobby decided not to remain the second generation of the team and left along with all of the original members except for Cyclops.

Bobby went-off to college at UCLA, where he eventually earned his CPA accreditation. Bobby and Warren Worthington III were attacked by harpies who were trying to locate Venus. The two young heroes were joined by Ghost Rider, Black Widow, and Hercules. After defeating Pluto, they decided to stick together as a team, the self-styled "Champions of Los Angeles". Bobby worked with the team for a year or so, but noticed that his powers changing and growing, which caused him great anxiety.

After the team disbanded, Bobby learned that he didn't need to fear the evolution of his abilities and returned to the X-Men to explore his untapped potential to the fullest. It was during this time that Bobby suffered a chest injury from Black Tom that triggered his Secondary Mutation, slowly encasing his body in ice and preventing him from reverting into his human form. During a mission to rescue Nightcrawler, Iceman's entire body was shattered in his ice-form, leaving only his head. Bobby later reformed himself using the moisture from the body of an enemy. These changes caused him to become bitter towards everyone, but with Beast’s and Kitty Pryde’s friendship, he became his old self in short order.

After the disagreement between Cyclops and Wolverine over the direction of mutant race, Wolverine decided to relocate the majority of the students back to the Xavier grounds and Bobby was the first person he asked to help him. Bobby agreed and the two began to recruit staff members for the "Jean Grey School for Higher Learning". Bobby served as the school's bookkeeper for a while, but has passed that duty on to Doop. He did so because Scott Summers asked him to join the Justice League with him, along with Beast as he knew they would be there to keep him on track and call him out if they felt he was making decisions that were not in the best interest of the team or the mutant race.

Characterization: Bobby is a Certified Practicing Accountant, a skilled ice skater, and can speak Spanish fluently. His lighthearted nature is a source of great comfort to the team at times, and a source of frustration at others, especially to Cyclops and Wolverine who feel he doesn’t take his role as a hero seriously enough. They also think it’s why he doesn’t always use his Omega-level powers to their fullest extent.

Friends and Foes: Bobby’s best friends are the original X-Men, especially Beast and Angel. He is good friends with The Human Torch and occasionally teams up with Spider-Man and Firestar for adventures outside of The X-Men.

yeah, Iceman's lack of proper characterization is a real shame given that he's BY FAR the most famous ice-wielder in comic book history, and how much Frozen made that power-set seem amazingly-cool and flashy. It's part of why I don't give a crap that he's gay now- it finally, FINALLY gives him a story arc other than "NOW I'm gonna take my job seriously and become a real super-hero!" :).

Bobby Drake is the Beast-Boy of the X-Men. If I may be so gauche as to quote myself:
“Batgirl III” wrote:Beast Boy seems to have a similar, but not quite identical, problem to that of Jean Grey and his fellow Titan Raven: instead of constantly repeating and retelling one big event in his life, the writers just kinda forget that major things have happened to him. This isn't too terrible, as being the team's general purpose, happy-go-lucky, snarky guy is something he's always been. Thus it isn't out of character for him to act like that —even in the face of great tragedy. (And really good writers will use it as fuel for scenes or stories where Garfield lets his facade slip and we see that his past has impacted him.)
Iceman suffers from this exact same condition. He was the “kid brother” to the original X-Men squad, the jokester and the happy go lucky guy. After the original five for punted off into X-Factor and Wolverine and the rest of the All New All Different squad pushed the originals into the background... Well, later writers just kinda forgot to do anything with Bobby. Every five to ten years a new writer would come on board, ignore everything that had happened to the guy other than his initial characterization and decide to have a story where Iceman declares “It’s time I got serious!” and/or the writer would decide to show how powerful Iceman “really” was.

Accident: When upset, Angelica's powers can go out of control.
Prejudice: Mutant.
Relationships: She was a long term relationship with Vance Astrovik (Justice) and still has residual feelings for him. She is also good friends with many of her former New Warriors teammates and has become fast friends with Iceman and Spider-Man.

Abilities 38 + Skills 16 (32 ranks) + Advantages 4 + Powers 76 + Defenses 16 = 150 / 150

Build Comments: Angelica Jones was created for the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends show on NBC back in the olden times when there were only cartoons on Saturday mornings. Being a comic kid, I watched that show a lot and I loved Iceman and Spidey, of course, I remember seeing Angelica then, and I didn’t think she was much to talk about. Apparently she was a fill-in for the Human Torch, one because they were afraid kids would try to light themselves on fire (really? First off, that wasn’t going to happen and second, if they did, they deserve to burn and if they die, that just means the human gene pool got a little stronger) and also for a little diversity.

I didn’t see her for years then all of sudden I start seeing her in X-books and it hit me that she was a mutant and I had forgotten. When they were running that series again on Disney XD or something a couple of years ago, I watched a couple of episodes and sure enough in her origin episode, they showed her at Xavier’s school.

I guess she also had a stint in the Avengers and was dating Justice for a good while but I missed all that. I picked up a couple of issues of Young Allies and it was decent, although I liked the Bastards of Evil more than the heroes, really. As a build, she was easy enough to whip up as a Microwave wielding glass cannon and I could see her being good in a team setting but not great shakes on her own.

Secret Origins: A lonely girl raised by her single father Bartholomew and paternal grandmother, Angelica Jones discovered that she possessed mutant powers. After her grandmother's death by heart failure and her revelation that she was a mutant, her father sent Angelica to the Massachusetts Academy. The Hellfire Club's original White Queen Emma Frost began training Angelica in the use of her powers for the Hellfire Club's team of young mutants. She was never sent on field missions with the other Hellions, however, because of her lack of control over her lethal powers and because the White Queen wished to instill cruelty and callousness in Firestar's personality, and befriending other young mutants would work against that goal. The White Queen manipulated Angelica into perceiving Frost as a loving mother figure, unaware that Frost was secretly grooming her to be a potential assassin and bodyguard. Angelica did meet the New Mutants at an Academy dance and, with the White Queen's telepathic prompting, formed a crush on Cannonball.

Firestar was later emotionally manipulated by Empath, and accompanied the Hellions Thunderbird, Empath and Roulette on a mission against the X-Men, in which Thunderbird sought revenge on Xavier, thinking him responsible for his brother's death.

While a student of the Massachusetts Academy, Angelica had Hellfire mercenary Randall Chase assigned to her as a bodyguard. Growing close to Angelica, Randall eventually began to suspect the White Queen's true motives and was to be terminated. He escaped, mortally wounded, and managed to warn Angelica of Frost's duplicity just before he died. In retaliation, Jones attacked and defeated the White Queen, and decimated the hidden training complex beneath Frost's Massachusetts Academy. Afterwards, she returned to living with her father (as she was still a minor at the time) but kept the unique costume and identity of Firestar given to her by Frost.

The Story so Far: Firestar was later to become one of the few surviving original Hellions after most members were murdered by Trevor Fitzroy. She, Warpath and Empath were the only members of the team not present during the massacre. Firestar and Warpath (accompanied by Warpath's X-Force teammate and Firestar's former love interest Cannonball), travelled to Nova Roma in Brazil to inform Empath and former New Mutant Magma of their teammates' deaths. The trio then went to the Massachusetts Academy where they removed the few remaining files on record of the Hellions' existence.

Shortly after her resignation from the Massachusetts Academy, Firestar became a founding member of the New Warriors when she was invited (or rather blackmailed) by Night Thrasher into joining, and helped them battle Terrax. She also aided Night Thrasher against Midnight's Fire. She remained with the group for some time.

Eventually, she fell in love and became engaged to teammate Vance Astrovik (also known as Justice, formerly Marvel Boy). She later discovered that using her microwave powers could eventually render her infertile.

Firestar also provided vital assistance in helping Spider-Man tackle Carnage during "Maximum Carnage", when he was also forced to ally himself with Venom, Black Cat and Morbius to stop Carnage's reign of slaughter. Her microwave power proved the only weapon truly effective against Carnage following his 'upgrade'- his vulnerability to sonics having been weakened - but she still refused to kill Carnage, even to stop his murders.

Firestar and Justice eventually left the New Warriors together. Some time later the two joined the Avengers after an alternate-universe adventure and a struggle against Morgan le Fay. During this period, Henry Pym determined that the cause of her potential infertility was her natural immunity to the effects of her own powers (which all mutants possess) had never fully developed. He designed a costume for her that would siphon off the excess radiation, give her natural immunity the opportunity to manifest fully and heal the damage already done. After a distinguished tenure with the Avengers, she and Justice left the Avengers. She also made a tentative peace with Emma Frost during this time.

Angelica started college and enjoyed a "normal life", but she abandoned wedding preparations, leaving Vance with all of the responsibility. When Vance confronted her about this, she confessed that she needed more life experience before settling into married life. Vance left in anger and presumably ended their engagement.

Firestar responded to the Superhuman Registration Act by effectively retiring from her career as a costumed hero. She was seen as part of a New Warriors reunion of sorts with Nova and Justice, with whom she seems to be on good terms again. When the Bastards of Evil attack at the World Trade Center Ground Zero, she is the first of New York's heroes to respond. Shortly after, she is joined by Gravity, Nomad, Spider Girl and Toro. The five heroes unite to defeat the menace, but are not taken seriously by the established teams (the Fantastic Four and Avengers) to arrive after the battle.

The group worked to track down the Bastards of Evil, Firestar partnering with Gravity while the others pursued independent leads. In addition to tracking the Bastards, Firestar and Gravity begin to patrol the city at night fighting street level crime. When Nomad and Spider Girl are captured by the Bastards on their way to meet Gravity and Firestar, Angelica is able to use her microwave powers to track the Bastards and is able to drain the radiation that empowers them. With Gravity's help, she is able to expel the energy harmlessly into space. Nomad suggests that they remain together as the Young Allies, which everyone objects to and they appear to go their separate ways.

Firestar joined the X-Men as a new teacher in the Jean Grey School assigned to teaching Physics. After being dragged to Hell with other members of the X-Men, she was pulled into a quest to search for the deceased Nightcrawler, at one point setting Hell itself on fire to stop a wave of demons attacking her and Iceman, an action that notably impressed Nightcrawler.

Later on, after returning to Earth, Firestar and Iceman encountered Spider-Man. The three of them immediately hit it off and have become adventuring partners from time to time.

Characterization: Anjelica is a gifted hero, although reluctant at times.

Friends and Foes: She is friends with a lot of her former New Warriors teammates. She is particularly close to her long time love Justice and has become fast friends with Iceman and Spider-Man.

Build Comments: Can’t go wrong with one of Marvel’s queens of fanservice, Felicia Hardy, the Black Cat. I didn’t really think much of her other than being a Selina Kyle rip-off until the Kevin Smith written Spider-Man arc, The Evil that Men Do. It was really good and dealt with a really tough subject extremely well and showed her as more than a sex kitten anti-hero.

And one of the best things to come out of the Superior Spider-Man arc was her becoming a villain again. After Otto/Pete laid the smackdown on her as he didn’t know of her and the real Pete’s relationship, she was devastated and turned heel. She’s popped up in a lot of books since so I’m keeping her off the straight and narrow, too. She’s more fun as the real bad girl.

Secret Origins: Felicia Hardy grew up as "daddy's little girl," idolizing her father. When Walter Hardy suddenly disappeared, Felicia's mother, Lydia, told her that he had died in a plane crash; in reality, he had been incarcerated for his crimes as a notorious cat burglar. Upon discovering the truth about her father, Felicia became inspired to follow in his footsteps. However, another tragic event more strongly influenced a redirection in her life. As a college freshman at Empire State University, Felicia was date-raped by her boyfriend, Ryan. She turned her grief and shame into rage, channeling her feelings for revenge towards intensifying her training regime in martial arts and acrobatics. However, she was robbed of a chance for vengeance, as Ryan was killed in a drunk driving accident.

Learning safe cracking, lock picking, and other techniques of thieves, Felicia set out stealing from others to compensate psychologically for what was stolen from her. The first night she took on the persona of the Black Cat she tried to break her father, Walter Hardy out of prison before he died. In the process, she met Spider-Man. After her father's death, she set out to become New York's premier cat burglar.

The Story so Far: However, over time, flirtations led to romance with Spider-Man, as Felicia promised to abandon her criminal activities. Spider-Man and the Black Cat often patrolled the city together, with Felicia in love with Spider-Man, the hero. She was reluctant to see Spider-Man unmasked, for fear the excitement of the mysterious romance would be lost.

When Spider-Man finally revealed his face and his modest apartment, Felicia was disillusioned. But, she still cared for him and after almost being killed by Doctor Octopus and the Owl, she felt that she was a burden on her boyfriend and a liability when fighting crime. While Spider-Man was away during the Secret Wars, Felicia made a deal with the Kingpin to gain superpowers - an actual bad luck aura. But the deal soon proved to be a bad move, as she had been "jinxing" Spider-Man by being in his close proximity, just as the Kingpin planned. Spider-Man, frustrated with the relationship, angered that Felicia made the deal with the Kingpin, and tired of her loving Spider-Man more than Peter Parker, broke up with her, right before she was about to selflessly break up with him so that she wouldn't be hurting him anymore by her aura.

Spider-Man went to Doctor Strange to remove her "jinx". Strange eliminated the hex at the source, causing Felicia to lose her bad luck powers but and also gave her more cat-like powers and abilities. She eventually settled into a life of her own, while still trying to maintain a friendship with Spider-Man. Soon she found out that Peter Parker had married Mary Jane Watson, which had angered her to the point that she grabbed and threatened Mary Jane. To spite Peter, she dated Flash Thompson intent on breaking Peter's friend's heart. Over time, she developed genuine feelings for him, but the two broke up. The Black Cat came to Spider-Man's aid when the Chameleon tricked Spider-Man into losing his powers to lead a normal life. Attacked by the Femme Fatales, the Scorpion, and the Tarantula, the Black Cat enabled Spider-Man to reverse the machine that suppressed his powers - at the cost of losing her own.

She has now relies on equipment she purchased from the Tinkerer to replace her lost powers. During Carnage's mass slaughter through the streets of Manhattan, the Black Cat teamed with Spider-Man again and other heroes to stop the killers. Recently she helped Spider-Man break Norman Osborn out of jail in order to rescue a kidnapped Aunt May. She remains one of Spider-Man's closest confidants and allies.

Recently, she and Spider-Man took on a drug dealer named Mr. Brownstone, Garrison Klum, a low-level mutant teleporter and persuader who used his talents to discreetly transfer illegal narcotics into the bloodstream of his clients. When the Black Cat attempted to confront Mr. Brownstone, he incapacitated her with a dose of heroin and attempted to rape her. Garrison's subservient brother and partner, Francis Klum, killed Garrison first. Felicia was arrested and imprisoned for a murder she didn't commit. Francis teleported her out from prison where he shared his story of abuse. His trust was shattered when Spider-Man and Daredevil attempted to apprehend Francis, making Francis believe Felicia had tricked him. Francis escaped, though severely injured and seeking revenge against Spider-Man.

Later, Felicia aided Spider-Man against the menace of Stegron the Dinosaur Man who attempted to de-evolve the city using the Rock of Life. After that adventure, Felicia and Thomas Fireheart, The Puma, began a somewhat superficial romance. After that dissolved, she continued towing the line between criminal and hero, getting involved several adventures, helping out Spider-Man from time to time and taking thievery jobs to keep herself in the lifestyle to which she has become accustomed.

Eventually, Felicia grew tired of her superhero and criminal activities and started to save money to retire. As Otto Octavius, in the guise of Spider-Man, was about to head for a date with Anna Maria Marconi, he bumped into Felicia, who was in the act of a robbery. Felicia tried to flirt with him, not realizing who he really was, and got a tooth punched out for her trouble, leaving Felicia totally shocked and angry, swearing revenge after Otto wrapped her in webbing. Felicia was soon found by the police and sent to the Conway Penitentiary. Humiliated, Felicia's stolen treasures were repossessed and her criminal contacts broke all ties with her. After escaping when Electro destroyed the penitentiary, Felicia got a new costume and vowed to make Spider-Man pay for what happened to her, without knowing at this time the real Peter Parker was behind the mask once again.

Having become heartless and revengeful, Felicia set out to become a crime boss rather than a simple cat burglar. She formed an alliance with Electro, another villain who suffered by Spider-Man's hand when Octavius was possessing his body, and used him as an enforcer to establish some dominance over the underworld. Felicia then set her sights on Parker Industries, Peter's own company which began developing a project for a new super-prison. Felicia and Electro interrupted a Parker Industries press conference, drawing Spider-Man's attention and almost unmasking him in the ensuing confrontation; however, he was saved by his newest ally Silk. Black Cat and Electro then attacked a demonstration of a device developed to depower the latter, during which the device ended up fulfilling its task. After cutting ties with Electro, Felicia consolidated her role as a crime boss by assembling her own gang of super-powered villains

Characterization: Felicia Hardy is often seen as a woman obsessed with Spider-Man always trying to keep his affection. For example, she once set up Spider-Man to be caught red-handed so he could become an outlaw and live forever with her. She is also superficial, asking Parker to put his mask back on as she couldn't live with the thought of Spider-Man being an average guy. This is due to her greedy personality, from stealing many precious items as they get the better of her and she becomes reckless in her relationships. Even so, her obsession with Spider-Man shows that she is determined and has a strong will and shows that nothing will get in her way.

Friends and Foes: She remains close to her mother. She was still close to Peter Parker until the Superior Spider-Man (Otto Octavious in Peter’s body, having wiped his memories from Peter away had no recollection of her), beat her up and nearly got her arrested, and she has not forgotten that, no matter how much Pete apologies.

Felicia Hardy: Master Criminal is such an odd character arc that I'm still now sure how I feel about it. Granted... the way she was before wasn't doing the stories any favors- especially once Pete was single (grrrrrr...), they had to decide that capricious ol' Felicia was back off of crushing on him.

You don't have to ask, Smythe. Killing the Spider's always been my idea of fun. But after what he did to me--to us--we won't leave enough of him to bury. - Scorpion

SCORPION (MAC GARGAN)
PL10

The idea of making the Scorpion's outfit look more like armor is alright, but the claws on the hands just screams "trying too hard". The guy is almost as fast and agile as Peter, and is suppose to be stronger and tougher than Peter by a noticable degree in a straight up contest, but giving him powered armor and claws just kind of undermines that. Plus I'm pretty sure that much armor would interfere with his wall-crawling power (which writers never seem certain if he has or not). Giving him armor for a little added protection and to justify the tail is fine, but the big claws is just overkill.

Though one thing everyone forgets about the Scorpion is that he use to be a detective. I'd always thought if I was going to add someone to the Thunderbolts, Scorpion would have been a good choice (my other one being Shocker), with some work being done to help control his temper (which is supposedly at least partially caused by his powers), and he would actually act as the group's detective when calm, but when he gets mad he starts fighting like the classic Scorpion.

STEGRON

How this guy is not a bigger deal is a mystery to me. Then again, a dinosaur man should be some Avengers level threat that can at the very least hang with someone like Ben Grimm.

Build Comments: In Spider-Verse, one of the first Spider-Men to be killed by The Inheritors was the Spider-Man of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. They took out Iceman and Firestar, too, just for good measure.
Maybe it's just because I grew up with the show, but that seemed INCREDIBLY mean spirited. But then again, it's Dan Slott.
