Abilities 52 + Skills 16 (32 ranks) + Advantages 8 + Powers 146 + Defenses 13 = 235 / 235

Build Comments: I'm glad the "real" Jean Grey is back in Marvel proper. I haven't read the mini-series chronicling her return nor X-Men Red but I hope they actually let her fulfill her non-Phoenix potential this time around. I did see the first panel where they did a take on the scene from Superman Returns where she's hovering high in the air, taking in thoughts from around the world. It was pretty freakin' awesome and a reminder of what Jean could be.

I statted her at PL13, right above Emma at PL12 and right below Professor X at PL14, but that could change. She always been touted as the most powerful psychic in the world even without the Phoenix Force but I prefer to keep Professor X at the top in my setting. For now.

Secret Origins: Jean's mutant powers of telepathy and telekinesis first manifest when her best friend is hit by a car and killed. Jean mentally links with her friend and nearly dies as well. The event leaves her comatose, and she is brought back to consciousness when her parents seek the help of powerful mutant telepath, Charles Xavier. Xavier blocks her telepathy until she is old enough to be able to control it, leaving her with access only to her telekinetic powers. Xavier later recruits her as a teenager to be part of his X-Men team as "Marvel Girl", the team's sole female member.

The Story so Far: After several missions with the X-Men, Xavier removes Jean's mental blocks and she is able to use and control her telepathic powers. She begins a relationship with teammate Cyclops (Scott Summers), which persists as her main romantic relationship, though she also develops a mutual secret attraction to later addition to the team, Wolverine.

During an emergency mission in space, the X-Men find their shuttle damaged. Jean pilots the shuttle back to Earth, but is exposed to fatal levels of radiation. Dying, but determined to save Cyclops and her friends, Jean calls out for help and is answered by the cosmic entity, the Phoenix Force. The Phoenix Force, the sum of all life in the universe, is moved by Jean's dedication and love and takes the form of a duplicate body to house Jean's psyche. In that instant, the Phoenix Force is overwhelmed and believes itself to be Jean Grey and places Jean's dying body in a healing cocoon. The ship crashes in Jamaica Bay, with the other X-Men unharmed. The Phoenix Force, as Jean Grey, emerges in a new green and gold costume and adopts the new codename "Phoenix", with immense cosmic powers. Meanwhile, the cocoon containing the real Jean Grey sinks to the bottom of the bay, unnoticed. Phoenix continues her life as Jean Grey with the other X-Men, joining them on missions and saving the universe.

During the "The Dark Phoenix Saga", Phoenix becomes overwhelmed and corrupted by her first taste of evil and transforms into a force of total destruction, called "Dark Phoenix", consuming a star, inadvertently killing the inhabitants of the star's planetary system, and jeopardizing the entire universe. However, Jean's personality manages to take control and Phoenix commits suicide to ensure the universe's safety.

Upon its suicide by way of a disintegration ray, the Phoenix Force disperses into its original form and a fragment locates the still-healing Jean at the bottom of Jamaica Bay. In trying to bond with her, Jean senses its memories of death and destruction as Dark Phoenix and rejects it, causing it to bond with and animate a lifeless clone of Jean Grey created by the villain Mister Sinister. Sinister created the clone to mate with Cyclops to create genetically superior mutants. Named "Madelyne Pryor", the unaware clone meets Cyclops in a situation engineered by Sinister and the two fall in love, marry, and have a child, Nathan Christopher Summers. Meanwhile, the cocoon is discovered and retrieved by the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. Jean emerges with no memory of the actions of the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix. The Avengers and Fantastic Four tell her of what happened and that she was believed dead until now. She is reunited with the original X-Men, and convinces them to form the new superhero team X-Factor. Jean learns that Cyclops has romantically moved on with Madelyn, who is angered over his decision to lead X-Factor and neglect his family. Though Jean encourages Cyclops to return to Madelyne, he finds their house abandoned and assumes that Madelyne has left him and taken their infant son; Cyclops returns to X-Factor and he and Jean continue their relationship.

Madelyne eventually resurfaces with powers awakened by a demonic pact, calling herself the "Goblyn Queen". Learning of her true identity and purpose as a clone had driven her completely insane and she plans to sacrifice Nathan Christopher to achieve greater power and unleash Hell on Earth. While attempting to stop her, Jean is reunited with the other X-Men, who are happy to learn that she is alive, particularly Wolverine, reminding Jean of her unaddressed feelings for him. Jean and Madelyne confront each other, and Madelyne attempts to kill them both. Jean manages to survive only by absorbing the remnant of the Phoenix Force housed within Madelyne, giving her both Madelyne's memories and the Phoenix's memories from "The Dark Phoenix Saga".

When X-Factor unites with the X-Men, Jean joins the Gold Team, led by her best friend Storm. During this time, she no longer uses a codename, instead being referred to by her civilian name. After some time, she decides to take control of her life, proposes to Cyclops and the two marry. Soon after, Jean adopts the codename "Phoenix" once again to establish it as a symbol of good after all the bad it had caused. Meanwhile, her psychic and telekinetic abilities begin to grow and she begins using the iconic green and gold Phoenix costume again.

Following Cyclops' possession by the mutant villain Apocalypse and apparent death, Jean continues with the X-Men, but is distraught by the loss of her husband. She later learns that she is an "Omega-level" mutant with unlimited potential. Jean begins to suspect that Cyclops may still be alive and with the help of Nathan Christopher Summers, now the artificially aged superhero Cable is able to locate and free Cyclops of his possession by Apocalypse. The couple return to the X-Men as part of the Xavier Institute's teaching staff to a new generation of mutants. While Jean finds she is slowly able to tap into the powers of the Phoenix Force once again, her marriage to Scott begins to fail.

Jean and Wolverine address their long-unspoken mutual attraction, deciding it is best not to act on their feelings; Cyclops grows further alienated from Jean due to her growing powers and institute responsibilities and seeks consolation from the telepathic Emma Frost to address his disillusionment and his experiences while possessed by Apocalypse. These therapy sessions lead to a "psychic affair" between Scott and Emma. Jean's discovery of the psychic affair results in a confrontation between her and Emma, though ultimately Jean realizes that her marriage to Scott has run its course and that Emma truly loves him.

In a final confrontation with a traitor at the institute (the X-Men's teammate Xorn, posing as Magneto) Jean fully realizes and assumes complete control of the powers of the Phoenix Force, but is killed in a last-ditch lethal attack by Xorn. Jean dies, telling Scott "to live." However, after her funeral, Scott rejects Emma and her offer to run the school together.

What no one else realized is that Jean had becomes the fully realized White Phoenix of the Crown. Seeing a vision of a dystopian future caused by Scott’s decision, she used the abilities of the Phoenix Force to influence Cyclops to accept Emma's love and her offer to run the school together. Jean then reconciles with Cyclops and fully bonds with the Phoenix Force and ascends to a higher plane of existence called the "White Hot Room". Though she had yet to fully return, the Phoenix Force continued to manifest itself, particularly through the red-haired, green-eyed "mutant messiah" Hope Summers, and Jean briefly appeared in a vision to Emma Frost from the White Hot Room, telling the X-Men to "prepare."

When the Phoenix Force returned to Earth and was seemingly destroyed by Hope Summers and the Scarlet Witch, the resulting explosion broke the psychic dimensional walls of the White Hot Room, allowing Jean to return to life. She and The Phoenix Force had a stand off that resulted in The Phoenix Force agreeing to leave her alone. For now...

Characterization: Jean is one of the most polarizing figures on the planet. Some see her as one of the greatest heroes of all time; others see her as one of the most dangerous entities in the universe. Only time will tell which, if either, is true.

Friends and Foes: Jean is close to her X-Men teammates, being particularly close to her “First Class” teammates, Iceman, Beast, Angel and of course, her former lover, Cyclops. She is best friends with Storm and remains close to Wolverine and Professor X. She and Scott are on good terms now, and she even seems to be getting along with Emma Frost, even though she watches her with a very leery eye. And she is not alone in that…

Jean is one I my favorites and I like the PL 13 for her. While I think PL 13 is the perfect level, however, maybe her powers need to go up some.

Hmmmn. I think Jean surpassed Xavier and way surpassed Emma when Jean was last alive, in Morrison's run. When Jean and Emma were in Xavier's mind, Jean went much further and did things Emma only wished she could. Plus all the things Jean did while highly sick with nano-sentinels, bleeding from the nose and eyes, steering 75 people all at once against their wills in order to get them to safety to breaking up Xavier's consciousness into millions of pieces and using Cerebra to distribute them. That was all Jean.

But overall, I love your build and the great new pic you chose. :) I guess since Jean is back, we will begin seeing just how powerful she is today and maybe some new ways she uses her powers.

Build Comments: Ah, the MCUs favorite minions, the Chitauri. They were wonderful fodder for The Avengers in the 2012 movie but they got bumped for the Outriders in Infinity War. They did get a cameo in the slaughter on Gamora’s homeworld and their tech has played a role in many Agents of SHIELD plots and in Spider-Man: Homecoming, of course, so they're still getting lots of mook love from Fiege and Co.

And if any group deserved some mass combat stats, it’s these mooks.

Abilities -34 + Skills 1 (1 ranks) + Advantages 0 + Powers 67 + Defenses 20 = 54 / 54

Build Comments: The big, flying things that the Chitauri use, The Leviathans. I couldn’t get a good read on their size so I just went with 20 ranks of Growth and they didn’t really do much fighting in the movie, so I figured I’d just make them really strong and tough but not accurate and easy to hit.

It takes stones the size of Mogo and Ego the Living Planet to attack Black Bolt when he’s sleeping. If the dude so much as gasps in surprise, he’s going to break your spine. If he’s posture gets disturbed and he starts to snore, he’s going to reduce you to salsa... and not the good chunky kind you get at the good Mexican restaurant, the thin liquidy stuff in the plastic packets from Taco Bell.

BGIII is right on. They've referenced that Blackagar (god, I love Silver Age "real names") trained himself to never utter a sound unintentionally, even when he's sleeping, in pain, etc. from the time he was a little child because of his power. I don't even want to think what would happen if he let his guard down when he and Medusa were...being intimate.

That's weird ... I talk in my sleep and I never considered that.
Hard to talk with your mouthful.

339 - Nebula

Post by Thorpocalypse »

Even though the last couple of items made their brand on Earth, they came from the stars. So I think we're going to spend a little time out in the Cosmic Thorpocaverse! Check out this J-Mart Favorite Item that's hitting the Aisle 2 shelves!

My father would have Gamora and me battle one another in training. Every time, my sister prevailed, my father would replace a piece of me with machinery, claiming he wanted me to be "her equal." But she won. Again, and again, and again, never once refraining. So, after I murder my sister, I will buy a warship with every conceivable instrument of death, I will hunt my father like a dog and I will tear him apart slowly, piece by piece, until he knows some semblance of the profound and unceasing pain I know every single day! - Nebula

Build Comments: So a quick, true story of young love as I explain why I will fight any of you over Karen Gillan... :x

My wife and I were friends in high school, kinda dated and then she got married so I broke it off with her. ;) Anyway, we reconnected in 95' and started dating again in a serious manner. She was living in Columbia, MO and I was in St. Louis so we'd go back and forth on the weekends and such. So one Friday she was coming to my place and I had 3-4 of my good friends over to watch American Gothic, which we were really into when it started.

So this was before cell phones and she was running late (as she always does, as I have learned over the years) so I was getting a little worried. But then there was a knock at my apartment door and I was relieved. When I opened the door, she was wearing the dress that I loved on her and on top of that, she had dyed her hair red.

Now up until that point, I didn't realize I had a thing for redheads. But apparently did I do as I looked her, all I could think was "wow". Then, without real conscious thought, I turned and looked at my friends and said, "EVERYBODY OUT..." They laughed. I wasn't kidding. We finished the episode but I sure didn't want to because, as Deadpool says, it was time to make the chimichangas. ;)

And since that day, I have been a sucker for redheads. Hence, Karen Gillan is mine and the rest of you need to back off!!! I mean, throw out the Ruby Roundhouse stuff from Jumanji even and look at that cuteness. Look at it!

I didn't have Nebula ready when I did my Guardians run before so here she is now. I had never heard of Nebula until I was checking out stuff for the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I never actually read the Infinity Gauntlet so I didn’t know she played a major role for a bit then completely dropped off the face of Marvel Comic Earth. Then she gets some run in the Guardians movies and Infinity War and she's become a B-lister. Again, a little love and good writing can salvage any character.

Except Pym.

I'll get around to updating her bio stuff soon to be more in line with her MCU incarnation but I'd like to keep some of her comic background, too.

Secret Origins: Nothing is known of Nebula’s origins.

The Story so Far: A brutal space pirate and mercenary of the starship Sanctuary III, once the flagship of Thanos' armada. . She and her mercenaries massacred the Xandarians. She has laid claim to be the granddaughter to Thanos. She is also rumored to be the daughter to Zorr. She accomplished what her rumored father could not, she destroyed the remaining planet, Xandar. Later, she would wreak havoc upon the Skrull Empire.

When she denied Thanos' return he blasted her, seemingly killing her, She was rescued by a crew member and taken to be healed in a hidden spot on her ship. Thanos soon discovered her and resurrected her.

Altered by Thanos while he wore the Infinity Gauntlet, she was simply a tactic to impress Thanos' love, mistress Death. She was a rotting body, neither alive nor dead, virtually no strength at all, yet she was still aware of everything that was going on around her. Seeing her opportunity, she snatched the gauntlet off Thanos' hand and gained ultimate power. She trapped Thanos in an unbreakable casing, then made everything as it had been 24 hours before that, and in doing so made a few mistakes, all of which she corrected. First off, she was turned back into a rotting body, then turned herself back into her normal self again. Then she realized that she had released all the cosmic beings that Thanos had trapped. Amazingly enough, she trapped them again, and turned them all into stone. Ultimately she lost the gauntlet when Adam Warlock reached out from Soul World and separated the gauntlet from her and gained it temporarily for himself.

Nebula was then taken to Titan as a prisoner. She was confronted by Firelord, who swore vengeance against her for destroying his homeworld, Xandar. Starfox used his powers to stay his hand. He then used his powers on Nebula, trying to stop her suffering and eventually putting her in a catatonic state. She was then sent to rehabilitation. When her former second in command Geatar was revived by the Titans, they allowed him to continue serving Nebula. He eventually gained their trust. He killed a guard and escaped with her, taking her to someone he believed would help her more than the Titans - Doctor Mandibus. He was able to repair her mind and parts of her were made mechanical, including her entire left arm and half of her head.

Her first action was to get her crew back. She and Geatar travelled to Annoval 14, a prison planet known as the Anvil. She planned to break her crew out of the prison. She tricked Chancellor Stipe into believing that Geatar was turning her over as a prisoner. After being strip searched and harassed, she killed the guards holding her. She is soon met by Geatar with the Chancellor hostage. The Silver Surfer interfered but backs down when they threaten to kill the Chancellor allowing her to escape. He was going to pursue her but other cosmic events demanded his attention. Nebula remains at large.

Characterization: Nebula is driven to become powerful and she also longs to prove that she is indeed the granddaughter of Thanos. He originally denied any progeny but it is now known he was lying and that he sired many children over the millennia so her claim could be true.

Friends and Foes: She has run afoul of several cosmic heroes like Adam Warlock and The Guardians of the Galaxy. She also seems to have a rivalry with her “great aunt” Gamora.

Abilities 84 + Skills 26 (52 ranks) + Advantages 16 + Powers 71 + Defenses 13 = 210 / 210

Build Comments: Since the MCU seems to have corrected its villain issues in the last few films, I am holding out hope that since they’ve announced that Ronan will be in Captain Marvel, that they will rework him enough to be decent this time around. Ronan has become a fave of mine over the years in the Marvel U but they made him pretty one-note and uninteresting in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

As a build, I made him a PL13 on offense since he’s done some major ass kicking with that hammer, but a PL12 on defense since it seems like he takes a bit of ass kicking most of the time before he comes back. Depending on whether he’s the face or the heel in the conflict, he either looks unbeatable then jobs to a bigger name if he’s the heel and if he’s the face, he often times gets beat down before he pulls a victory out with a big swing or blast from the Universal Weapon.

Secret Origins: Upon the completion of his formal education, Ronan was enrolled in the Kree Public Accuser Corps, the main law enforcement body for the empire. Ronan did well and was steadily promoted. In a border incident, he stopped a fleet of Skrull ships from entering Kree space. As a result, he was made Supreme Accuser of the Kree Empire, making him responsible for enforcing the laws and decrees of the Kree, and second only to the Supreme Intelligence, and the Imperial Minister.

The Story so Far: As a proud member of the Kree aristocracy, initially he was not happy taking orders from the Supreme Intelligence. His attempt to cause a civil war was quickly halted, and he quickly returned to service.

Ronan's first encounter with Earth heroes was when the Fantastic Four defeated Kree Sentry #459. Later, Ronan attempted to press the Inhumans into service, as they had been created by the Kree. Although Black Bolt defeated Ronan in a contest, many Inhumans chose to stay on Hala regardless.

Just prior to the Annihilation event, Ronan was framed and stripped of his Accuser Rank by House Fiyero. He sought out the only witness, Tana Nile, who was part of Gamora's Graces.
Unfortunately, Tana Nile was killed by the Annihilation Wave commanded by Annihilus. The ruling Kree seemed ignorant of the threat the Wave posed.

Ronan later joined with the United Front along with Nova on the front lines against the Annihilation Wave. Many rank and file Kree trusted him over the commanders appointed by Fiyero, in the war against Annihilus.

Ronan eventually returned to Hala with his sworn enemy Kl'rt the Super-Skrull and Praxagora to dethrone the House Fiyero who were planning to side with Ravenous and Annihilus. After knocking Ravenous unconscious and killing the House Fiyero, Ronan attempted to locate the Supreme Intelligence, only to find that Fiyero had lobotomized it. Mercifully killing it, Ronan exited its chamber to thunderous cheers of the Kree people, who unanimously called on him to become their new emperor.

When Ravenous later came back to Hala with a stronger force, Ronan led a violent attack on Ravenous' fleet; in which entire building complexes were rocket propelled at Ravenous' forces and decimated the Annihilation forces. After the massive destruction of the Annihilation Wave by Galactus, Ronan was part of the participants in forging a treaty between the United Front and Ravenous that ceded certain Kree territories and all of the former Skrull Empire in order to end the hostilities.

When the Phalanx invaded and assimilated the Kree, Ronan was forced to serve them to protect the Empire. He was freed by the Wraith, whose Exolon symbiotes could drive fear into the Phalanx. Along with Kl'rt, Praxagora and Ra-Venn, Ronan made his way to Kree-Lar, the ceded Kree capital, now under the control of the N-Zone bugs, who were putting up quite a fight with the Phalanx. Ronan called to make an alliance, when he was actually looking to activate the 15,000 Kree Sentries beneath the palace. Originally meant for an eventual strike to take back their territories from the bugs, Ronan was going to use them to annihilate Hala, as a means to free his people from servitude. To that end, he had Praxagora and Wraith render the Sentries immune to the Transmode Virus.

As the Sentries approached Hala, Ra-Venn informed Ronan that Nova, Quasar and Star-Lord have gone head-to-head with the Phalanx and asked that he call off the strike. However, Ronan refused to. Unfortunately, Ultron, who had taken over Praxagora, took control of the sentries to form a new body. Kl'rt barely managed to shield them all before Praxagora self-destructed. Descending to the surface, they helped Quasar defeat Ultron, by having Wraith use his Exolons to trap Ultron. With the Phalanx defeated, Ronan was left to pick up the pieces of the Kree Empire.

When the Inhumans left Earth's Moon to search for and rescue Black Bolt from the Skrulls following their invasion of Earth, Medusa tried to establish an alliance between the Inhumans and the Kree to help find Black Bolt and free him from his Skrull captors. Ronan agreed, but only on the condition that Medusa's sister Crystal become his bride. He provided them with information regarding the Skrull communications network, which the Kree have been trying for years to crack.

Shortly after the Skrull invasion, the Inhumans arrived at the Kree homeland, and after subduing his bodyguards, confronted the Kree ruler, Ronan. Defeated, Ronan kneeled before Black Bolt as the new ruler of the Kree Empire. To bring their two races closer together, Ronan and Crystal's marriage proceeded. However, Crystal saw the marriage as a political affair, to Ronan's disappointment (he had brought her flowers, ostensibly to try and woo her). On the wedding day, he was severely beaten by the Shi'ar Imperial Guard and was hospitalized. He does not fully recover until after the War of Kings is over.

During the war with the cancerverse, Ronan is a member of Nova's main attack force. In an effort to prevent further massive conflicts, Ronan joins the Annihilators. They protected Galador from the Dire Wraiths and opposed the Universal Church of Truth's attempt to revive the Magus.

Ronan is later separated from his wife Crystal under the orders of Black Bolt. This separation is part of a truce that was made between Black Bolt and the revived Supreme Intelligence to ensure peace between Inhumans and the Kree Empire. Crystal and Ronan are deeply saddened by this decision, their at first arranged marriage turning into a truly loving and committed relationship.

Characterization: Ronan is a highly skilled soldier and a military genius, having received Kree military combat training, and possesses extensive knowledge of the legal code of the Kree Empire. He can be curt and hard to talk to at times, but he has a strict code of honor and a dry wit which he rarely reveals but has endeared him to several of his close comrades.

Friends and Foes: Ronan is committed to the Kree and values his code of honor and responsibility to the Kree empire above all else. He is close to his currently estranged wife Crystal.
