J-Mart OG: Closed for a new location!

Post by Thorpocalypse »

It will take me a while port things over, but you know me, I can't resist an opportunity to expand the J-Mart franchise. 8-)

WELCOME TO J-MART!
(Shirts required for men, not for women. No public restrooms.)

Disclaimer: Subsidiary of The Thorporation. All original characters copyright of The Thorporation, any unauthorized use of said characters is pretty much OK, as long you don’t make any money with them that I don’t get a cut of. ;)

All other builds free for use if you can’t find ones you like better, which if you can’t, you really aren’t looking very hard…

DA RULES

Post by Thorpocalypse »

HOUSE RULES: EARTH T-1

Of course, you can't just use the rules as written, what's the fun in that?! It should go without saying that this is a CONSTANT work in progress as I roll through more tests and new ideas pop into my head.

GAMEPLAY:

ATTACK OF OPPORTUNITY: I’m adding an Attack of Opportunity (AOO) mechanic to close combat. Something still doesn't feel right to me about characters just moving in and out of threatened spaces. Years of D&D programming I guess.

In a fight, everyone is constantly watching for a chance to strike an enemy who is fleeing or passing by. Such a strike is called an Attack of Opportunity. You can make an AOO when an enemy combatant that you can see (or perceive with an accurate enhanced sense) moves out of your reach. To make the AOO, you use your reaction to make one close attack against the provoking opponent. The attack occurs right before the opponent leaves your reach.

With that, there will be a Disengage action added to the Actions list. You can avoid provoking an AOO by taking the Disengage action. If you take the Disengage standard action, your Movement doesn’t provoke Opportunity Attacks for the rest of the turn.

You also don’t provoke an opportunity attack when you Teleport or when someone or something moves you without using your movement, action, or reaction.

You can also avoid an AOO as a move action by succeeding on an opposed Acrobatics vs. Insight or Will (whichever is higher) or an opposed Stealth check against Perception. The Stealth option is only available if the opponent is distracted by Deception, Intimidation or another effect.

COMBAT MANEUVER COMBOS: I'm pretty sure I saw that Jon L confirmed that you are not supposed to use maneuver combos like All-Out/Power Attack at the same time. But I'm allowing their usage up to +2/-2 for non-minions/non-forces with Extra Effort. Characters that have the necessary Advantages for the combos can use them up to the full +5/-5 ranks. I think utilizing the full +5/-5 can be overpowering in a scene, but for certain moments, I think it brings excitement so I decided to allow it in this manner for now.

EXTRA ATTACKS: I didn’t like the Extra Attack power in 2E but I’ve found that when a character is greatly outnumbered by non-minion foes even 3-4 levels below them, they don’t have much of a chance. So I’m testing a rule where if a character is outnumbered by 2 or more non-minion foes they get an additional attack per round. The GM may grant an extra attack per every 3rd additional foe.

Example: Thanos is taking on Thor and Cap. He gets his one attack per round. Iron Man shows up, giving Thanos three foes to deal with. Thanos would get a second attack per round. Then Black Panther, Hawkeye and Captain Marvel enter the fray two rounds later. Thanos now gets a 3rd attack per round. Thanos drops Iron Man with a critical hit the next round. He’s back down to 5 foes so he goes back to two attacks per round.

HERO POINT USAGE – FORCE REROLL: I love the Advantage mechanic in D&D 5E so I am adding an option to Hero Point where you can use an HP to force an opponent to reroll an attack or check roll without having the Luck Control power.

TIME IS IMMUTABLE: There is NO TIME TRAVEL in the Thorpocamultiverse. You can have effects that slow or speed up a personal time field but it's more of a psionic or kinetic effect as opposed to stopping or accelerating actual time. Time travel is just a walking plot hole and it's getting overused in all fantasy/comic/sci-fi mediums right now so I am putting a stop to it here.

Story-wise, the Thorpocamultiverse “Big Bang” started everything untold billions of years ago but as they split out, different universes had their development occur at different rates. So a setting like The Legion of Superheroes timeline is futuristic but in overall multiversal “time”, it’s the same point as the current time. No one can meet their future selves but they can interact with versions of themselves from other universes that could potentially be their past or future selves.

Of course, if I screw something up bad enough, I reserve the right to retcon this, of course. :)

SKILLS:

Nothing yet, but there could be something eventually.

ADVANTAGES:

HOUSE ADVANTAGES: Here is a list of homebrew, swiped, converted 2E and eventual new 3E book Advantages (I hope) that I will be using for my personal setting builds:

Accelerated Acrobatics - You can try to cross a precarious surface faster than normal. If you increase the Difficulty Class by 5, you can move your full speed as a move action instead of -1 rank. Moving twice your speed in a round requires the penalty plus two skill checks, Acrobatics and the usual Athletics.
Accelerated Climb - You can try to climb more quickly than normal, at -1 rank instead of -2. You can accept an addition +5 DC to move at full speed.
Accelerated Stealth - You can move up to your normal speed instead of -1 rank. Moving twice
your speed in a round requires the penalty plus two skill checks, Stealth and the usual Athletics.
Cat's Feet: You can operate without detection by normal hearing.
Clean (ranked) - Checks to connect you with a crime increase by DC5 per rank.
Combat Clarity (ranked) - +2 checks to resist Feints, 2nd rank increases to +5.
Combat Leader - Use a Hero Point or Luck (Inspiration) for you and allies in 60 ft radius to get +2 bonus on Initiative rolls.
Conceal Efforts - Anyone who inspects your bindings during a Sleight of Hand escape check must make a Perception check with a DC equal to your Sleight of Hand result to notice your escape attempt.
Cunning Fighter - Use your Attack Bonus instead of Deception to Feint in combat.
Damaging Escape - When you escape from a grab, you get an unarmed attack against the opponent as a free action. You still have to roll to hit.
Deep Ties (ranked) - Gain extra an hero points when faced with an emotionally important complication. Limited to 3 ranks.
Deadeye – You can Aim as a move action. Cannot be used in conjunction with Improved Aim in same action.
Defensive Strike - +2 circumstance bonus on next attack against opponent that misses you in close combat. The bonus does not count against PL caps.
Durable Lie - The target believes your Deception for an additional round.
Eagle Eyes - Your visual perception range increment is 100 ft.
Escape Death – You can automatically stabilize yourself when dying.
Fighting Climb – You are not vulnerable when climbing.
Forceful Intimidation - You can force your subject to take an action that is against their interests (but not life threatening).
Follow-up Strike - Follow up a critical hit with a free attack action against the same target.
Hide Tampering - You can conceal any tampering with a device. Anyone who inspects the device must make a check against your Technology or Sleight of Hand check result to notice your tampering.
Improved Daze – You can attempt to Daze as a move action without the penalty.
Improved Feint – You may attempt to Feint as a move action without the penalty.
Improved Trick - You may use Deception to bluff or trick as a move action without penalty.
Last Stand - Use Extra Effort to ignore all damage penalties for one round.
Lionheart (ranked) - +2 bonus against Fear and related effects (2nd rank increases bonus to +5). The bonus is limited by PL caps.
Martial Strike (ranked) - +1 unarmed damage per rank. Limited to 4 ranks.
Mobility – +2 parry defense bonus against attacks of opportunity when you move out of a threatened space. 2nd rank increases bonus to +5.
Rallying Cry: As a standard action, you can spend a hero point or use Luck (Inspiration) to grant allies in auditory perception range a new Will save to overcome fear and lasting mental effects.
Rousing Speech (ranked): Choose interaction skill, make DC15 interaction skill check to grant ally +2 bonus to particular check. Additional rank to raise bonus to +5 or select additional interaction skill.
Skill Supremacy (ranked) - When using Hero Point to temporarily increase Skill ranks, instead of +2 the bonus becomes +5.
Speed of Thought - Use Intellect modifier instead of Agility modifier for initiative checks.
Sweeping Strike: If you score a successful unarmed attack, you can make a trip attack as a free action.
Swift: You can add an extra rank of Speed to your additional rank gained with a successful Athletics check.
Tough (ranked) - +1 to Toughness saving throws, limited to 4 ranks.
Unbalancing Strike - When you hit an opponent with a close attack, you can choose to throw them off balance rather than inflicting damage. A success means they are Vulnerable on defense for the next round.
Withstand Damage (ranked) - When using the Defend action, you can reduce your active defenses 2 ranks to increase Toughness bonus by 2 ranks (2nd rank increases to 5 ranks).
Wolf's Ears: Your auditory perception checks have range increment of 100 ft.
Zen Strike - Use your Awareness instead of your Strength for unarmed damage.

LANGUAGES: Too expensive in the RAW for my taste. My rule is that Languages rank 1 gives you 2 languages, 2 ranks gives you 5, 3 ranks gives you 10 and so on up the Progression chart. I don't see giving anymore than 3 ranks, but you never know.

LUCK: Also, I am using the optional Luck Advantage rule from the GM's Guide that allows a character to have ranks at Luck that reflect each separate application of HP usage. So characters can have:

Luck (Edit Scene)
Luck (Force Reroll)
Luck (Heroic Feat)
Luck (Improve Roll)
Luck (Inspiration)
Luck (Instant Counter)
Luck (Recover)

RANKED COMBAT MANEUVER ADVANTAGES: The usage of the Accurate Attack, All-Out Attack, Defensive Attack and Power Attack Advantages works similarly to Improved Critical in that you need to note the effect that you can use them with. Example: Superman takes Power Attack (1) (Unarmed) so he can increase his damage up to +5 for that attack only. His Heat Vision Power Attack increase would be limited +2 per the standard Power Attack maneuver rules.

Multiple ranks in the combat maneuver Advantages an be taken for as many attacks/effects as the player wants.

POWERS:

FLIGHT: I’m adding an option to take a 1 pf Flaw on first rank of Flight to move at 30 fpr/4 mph. Just fits more for slow flying creatures like some of my converted fantasy creatures or the flight of fighting game characters for example.

REGENERATION: I’m bringing back the Regrowth Extra from 2E. I agree with Jab, you should have an Extra to be able to grow back limbs. Makes Deathstroke’s missing eye with his regenerative powers make a lot more sense.

Regeneration Rounds: To clarify, this a chart to show which rounds you recover a -1 to Toughness if you have Regeneration.

Healing Factor: Regeneration 1 (1 every 9 rounds [9, 18, 27]); 1 pt
Healing Factor: Regeneration 2 (1 every 5 rounds [5, 10]); 2 pts
Healing Factor: Regeneration 3 (1 every 3 rounds [3, 6, 9, 12...); 3 pts
Healing Factor: Regeneration 4 (4 every 10 rounds [2, 5, 8, 10]); 4 pts
Healing Factor: Regeneration 5 (1 every other round [2, 4, 6, 8, 10]); 5 pts
Healing Factor: Regeneration 6 (2 every 3 rounds [2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12...]); 6 pts
Healing Factor: Regeneration 7 (3 every 4 rounds [2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12); 7 pts
Healing Factor: Regeneration 8 (4 out of 5 rounds [2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10); 8 pts
Healing Factor: Regeneration 9 (9 every 10 rounds [2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10]); 9 pts
Healing Factor: Regeneration 10 (1 every round); 10 pts

Regeneration 11 on would be one every round, then add a check per the chart, etc.

THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE THORPOCALYPSE

Post by Thorpocalypse »

I thought I should repost this from the ATT so people had an idea of where my setting came from.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Secret History of the Thorpacolypse!

How did I, the CEO of J-Mart rise up from humble beginnings to be the head of a multinational MnM build conglomerate worth $.0000000002? Read on, true believers and find out the true story!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back in the halcyon days of 1981, a 14-year-old, fat, black kid from a small town in Missouri was first introduced to the world of role playing games with the 1st edition of Dungeons and Dragons. He played a hearty fighter called Xander Daytripper because he was really into the Cheap Trick song Dream Police, the band was fronted by Robin Zander, and he also really dug their killer cover of The Beatles’ song Day Tripper. Not very creative, but hey, he was young.

He was trained by master DM Willard (I am only giving parts of the original group’s names to protect the mostly innocent) who taught him the time honored DM principles of:

• Always kill the parties’ mounts
• Make them really earn the cool sh*t
• Always drop heavily armored players in water
• Never take or return calls from your parents, girlfriend, husband, wife, etc. when you are gaming because it will most certain lead to the end of said game
• Everything is better with wings on it (he always liked flying stuff, like winged horses, of course, but he always loved his pet winged worgs and he constantly threw Vrocks at us)
• Always screw over the player that argues with you, especially when they accuse you of cheating when you didn’t
• And cheat, cheat, cheat, and cheat again if it helps you get the game where it needs to go in the end. But still screw over the player that accuses you of cheating. :)

The young Thorpacolypse was joined on his initial quest by the Halfling thief, Pergathon, played by his good friend Kyle and the brash, drunken dwarven fighter Kalen, played by his brash, drunken friend Mitch. The trio was heartily thrashed in their first encounter as they learned a hard lesson about something called “party balance”. So the Thorpacolypse rolled up two more characters, the female cleric Sian, who was quite controversial, being a female character played by a male in a game with all teenage males well before political correctness was even a concept and with Culture Club’s influence still a year away; and the wizard…whose name is lost for all time, but we do know it started with an M…

And now with a healer and a Magic Missile shooter on their side (man, 1st-3rd Magic Missile was the handiest little thing ever for magic users, shame 4th edition nerfed it), the party was triumphant! And onward they went over the next 2 years, slaying many beasts, drinking lots of Mountain Dew, missing out on many dates and becoming legends on pencil and paper gaming. Others joined in with the Great Party from time to time, but the core stayed together through many battles, arguments and groundings. They even vanquished the mighty Demogorgon, even though the great Willard hosed them out of the final kill by cheating. Teaching another lesson that the DM giveth (he had a “double 20” rule where if you rolled two 20’s in a row on attacks, it was an automatic kill and that’s what Xander did against Big D to score the kill) and the DM taketh away (he didn’t think we should have really taken out Big D, so he made up some BS reason why Demogorgon teleported away at the last second or something…30+ years later and I’m still mad about it!!!).

But alas, fate conspired against the heroes, and the party was disbanded due to the DM spending time “away” (kinda got into a little legal thing...), the Halfling thief moving to Iowa and the great dwarven fighter getting…shudder…a girlfriend. And thus was the Great Party disbanded.

But the story doesn’t end there. The Thorpacolypse introduced his friends, Lord Bauman, and Wayne the Great to the game. Lord Bauman’s flagship character was the half-orc assassin Balderron, and he, along with Xander (with last name now changed to Daellion, because of the fun Lord Bauman had calling the character Gayslipper, or something else he found funny at the time), Sian and M.., dang it, I wish I could remember his name…with the occasional assistance of Kalen (when Mitch wasn’t with his girlfriend) and the litany of characters that Wayne the Great created (the dude never stuck with a character, that was his true Greatness ) went on many more adventurers until 1985 when an unavoidable force splintered the group forever:

College.

Yes, the mighty Thorpacolypse graduated high school and now, 40 lbs. lighter and on a different quest in life, he laid down his D&D books and dice and began to walk a different path. Oh, he dabbled in the Gygaxian world on a couple of summer eves, but for all intents and purposes, a chapter of his life had closed in the interest of…sigh…popularity.

And he achieved it. Sorta. He became a well-known figure on campus. Quick with a joke, moderately athletic, a stout drinking fortitude and a 1974 Pontiac Catalina for a steed that carried many a damsel (and knight, for that matter, one time we fit 14 people in it coming home from a party) in distress from parties, he had conquered the realm. Sorta. But it was a hollow victory. For while part of him loved the “normal” life, his true self, his raging geek self, was fighting its way out. He picked up new dice, those that belonged to the Strat-O-Matic series of sports gaming sims. He continued to play them with friends throughout his college days. Sports geekdom became his geekdom of choice. Far handier in the bar scene than fantasy or comic geekdom, but geekdom nonetheless.

But eventually the prodigal son would return to his roots. After marrying Mrs. Thorpacolypse and being blessed with his first Little Thorpacolypse, he moved his family to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul. While his wife’s godson was visiting, he mentioned that some of his friends from school were playing D&D and he wondered what it was all about. And the memories began flooding back as he began to regale the youth with tales of epic adventure from the Reagan Era. Tales of orc bodies strewn across the landscape! Vorpal swords slaying two red dragons in once encounter! Vrocks! Winged Worgs! 8 liters of Mountain Dew drunk at one sitting!

It was time for the revival…

Digging through old boxes, the Thorpacolypse found his dice. He bought the godson the starter 3rd edition set for Christmas and of course, he HAD to play with him and his father, who had also played the game during his military career. A great time was had by all. And the fire for gaming was re-stoked in the bacon fat-clogged heart of our hero.

This led to the discovery of The Source, a gaming shop of great renown in the Twin Cities. As fate would have it, The Source also had a huge selection of comics. The Thorpacolypse’s love of comics even pre-dated his RPG career and within minutes, he was pulled back to that love. So not only had he started gaming again, he started collecting comics again. His two great loves returned to his life. And eventually it led to the introduction of an RPG by Green Ronin known as Mutants and Masterminds that combined his two great loves.

And the rest, as they say, is J-Mart history…

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope some of you got a kick of my tongue in cheek stroll down memory lane for my gaming life. I did it for some self-indulgent fun, but mainly for a little backstory as I begin my fantasy setting stuff. I really did start gaming in 1981, and I really quit for about 15 years until my godson inadvertently awoke my gaming beast. So now for the past 10 years or so, I’ve been making up for lost time, as you can obviously tell from the J-Mart threads. I loved, and still love, D&D, but MnM is my thing now. So I’m trying to set up my fantasy stuff in my fave system.

Looking at my D&D setting stuff that I am converting, I realized from the last save times that a lot of it hadn’t been touched since 2005, which about the time that I got into 2nd edition MnM so that makes a lot of sense. I also realized a lot of it was in paper, like maps and such, so I’m really only going to post the history and few other odds and ends for now until I clean more of it up. As far as the actual monster/NPC builds go, I plan on it being similar to Jab’s Castellia run in that many of the creatures and characters will be pretty close to D&D type, but some will be based on Dresden stuff, LOTR, and whatever else I feel like throwing in there. I figure if my current Thorpacoverse is a combined setting, so should the Fantasy Thorpacoverse follow suit.

For characters, my setting background will refer to The Great Party, based on my original group of characters that are now the “big dogs” of the Gloriant setting. However, instead of building them in their ending versions first, I am building them as starting characters, then eventually leveling them up to their current epic status. Over the years, I toyed with writing up a new starting story for them and making it into a module or adventure novel or something (ah, who among us hasn’t started “their novel” that never panned out...I've done several ) and I’m going to work some of that into their backstory if I can.

As you should expect of me, I will be drifting back and forth between this setting, more comic builds and such, but I hope in a few month’s time that I will have a large fantasy setting to roll with. So on we go...

Relationships: Superman’s closest relationship is with his wife, Lois Lane and his son, Jon Lane Kent. Other important people in his life include his mother and father, Martha and Jonathan Kent, his cousin, Supergirl, his clone Kon-El, and friends and co-workers Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, and Catherine “Cat” Grant and of course, his loyal dog, Krypto. In the superhero community he is close to Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain America and Thor.
Responsibility: Superman feels a strong sense of responsibility to use his powers for the benefit of all.
Secret Identity: Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for the Daily Planet.
Vulnerable: Kryptonians are as vulnerable to magic as anyone else. They lose their ranks of Protection and their Toughness is not Impervious against magical attacks.
Weakness: Kryptonite...Its radiation saps the Strength and powers of Kryptonians, leaving them impaired, disabled, and eventually debilitated in terms of Strength and power effects. Long-term exposure (usually a matter of minutes, less for a large enough amount) imposes the dying condition and may lead to death.

Abilities 128 + Skills 21 (42 ranks) + Advantages 26 + Powers 153 + Defenses 15 = 343 / 343

Build Comments: As requested, the Man of Steel kicks off this new J-Mart. You all know my philosophy. To quote:

For some reason, it always starts with Superman. – Alexander Luthor.

I made a few tweaks to my last run of Superman on the RA boards where I adjusted his strength to 18. It really goes back to the nagging thought that I keep having about 20 ranks in things being “cosmic”. I am trying to reserve 20 rank powers for “cosmic level” effects, like Darkseid’s Omega Effect which to me, is the epitome for the “cosmic level” power. And I wanted Clark's and Thor's top power ranks to be 2 ranks below, since they are the top dogs of my setting. Feels like it will make for a good challenge for them if they get to go up against the Lord of Apokolips or other cosmic level entities.

Secret Origins: Kal-El was born on the doomed planet, Krypton, the only son of reknowned scientist Jor-El and his wife Lara. Jor-El realized that Krypton faced imminent destruction due to its unstable core, the result of years of depleting Krypton's natural resources. The ruling council, pre-occupied by a military coup led by planet's military commander General Zod and his followers, refused to act or advise the general populace.

In order to save his son, and the legacy of his planet, Jor-El infused Kal-El’s cells with a genetic codex of the entire Kryptonian race and sent him on a spaceship to Earth. After a confrontation with Jor-El, Zod and his followers are captured and banished to the Phantom Zone.

Kal-El's ship landed outside Smallville, Kansas, where he is found by Jonathan and Martha Kent who raised the child as their own and named him Clark. During a temper tantrum over his lost security blanket, Clark knocks over a tractor and the Kents realize that Clark's Kryptonian physiology affords him superhuman abilities on Earth. This initially caused him confusion and ostracism, but he gradually learned to harness his powers to help others. On Clark’s 16th birthday, Jonathan revealed to him that he was an alien and advised him not to use his powers publicly, fearing that society will reject him. Clark found the Kryptonian crystal tech that Jor-El sent with him and began to learn his origins and developed a relationship with his birth parents through the interactive holograms contained within the crystals. He made good friends in high school, Lana Lang, Pete Ross, Chloe Sullivan, and for a while, a young Lex Luthor who was “exiled” as he called it, to Smallville for a couple of years.

The Story so Far: After high school, Clark attended Kansas St. University and got his journalism degree in 3 years. He spent a couple of years traveling around the world, doing freelance writing and trying to find his place in the world. He found himself in West Africa, where an ethnic conflict between the Ghuri and Turaaba clans caught his attention and he went to cover the conflict. He met with the Ghuri political leader and human rights activist, Kobe Asuru. Over the course of several days, Clark and Asuru established a rapport and became friends. Asuru emphasized the Ghuri tradition of honoring ancestors through wearing symbolic clothing and working for human rights. While Clark and Kobe establish a quick connection, Kobe Asuru's sister Abena was suspicious of Kent's motives and at one point accused him of cultural imperialism and acting in a condescending "white savior" manner to the Ghuri.

Later, Clark interviewed the Turaaba politician Rep. Kebile who disliked Kobe and oppressed Ghuri rights. While protecting Abena Asuru from a thrown bomb, Clark heard a commotion and flew back to the rally (carrying Abena Asuru on his back) where Kobe had already been fatally stabbed. Enraged, Clark grabbed the fleeing assassin and threw him into a wall, demanding to know who hired him. The terrified killer raised his arm—pointing directly at Kebile, who was incidentally surrounded by media. Kebile was besieged with questions and was later forced to resign. This incident led Clark to don his Kryptonian Battlesuit and honor his fallen friend by making his presence known to the world.

After a number of small public appearances where he became an internet sensation known as The Blur, he lept into the public eye about 19 ½ years ago on December 30th. A plane bound for Metropolis, MO, was going down in a snowstorm. It appeared that the 115 passengers and crew on board were heading for certain doom. Suddenly, a red and blue blur streaked by the window, the plane’s dive was halted and to the astonishment of the captain, was set down gently in a field outside of Metropolis. As the flight crew opened the emergency exit doors and activated the inflatable safety slide, they saw a dark-haired man in a blue costume with a flowing red cape floating outside. He asked if everyone was OK, and once the pilot confirmed as much, he smiled then flew away into the early evening sky. One of the passengers, star reporter for the Daily Planet Lois Lane, chronicled the entire event and within minutes her uploaded cell phone picture and internet headline gave the world the first real glimpse of the man who would become known to the world (and eventually, most of the known universe) by the name she gave him: Superman.

Soon after, it seemed he was everywhere at once. Rescuing trapped miners in Chile, saving people from burning buildings all over the US, catching a jumper off the Eiffel Tower, removing a bomb that was going to blow up Big Ben and even finding time to save a cat stuck in a tree in Smallville, KS, while visiting his parents. His commitment to humanity was proved during a massive attack on his adopted home planet by the Kryptonian General Zod and his allies that he repelled. He became a beloved world figure, and quickly became the most searched for entity on the internet. And his sit down interview with Lois Lane became the most widely viewed event in TV and internet history.

A few weeks after the Daily Planet article, reports of superhuman activity across the globe exploded. Countless other superheroes and villains began to appear and new superhumans, mutants and aliens have continued to emerge ever since. It’s generally considered that Superman’s appearance ushered in the modern superhuman age.

In the years since, Superman has become Earth’s greatest hero, defending his adopted home planet from countless threats, both terrestrial and otherworldly. He’s a founding and current member of the Justice League. After the events of the Superhero Civil War, he’s rededicated himself to mentoring young heroes and maintaining unity in the superheroic community as a whole, being a driving force behind the formation of the Justice League/Avengers/X-Men Alliance (JLAX).

Characterization: Superman of Earth-T1 is the first and greatest hero of his generation. Respected the world over, and a legend in several other galaxies, he’s the standard that all heroes are measured by. The only other hero with his overall level of respect is Captain America.

Friends and Foes: Clark remains close to his parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. He also keeps in contact with Pete and Chloe, who remain in Smallville. He and Lana remain friends, even though Lana’s employment at LexCorp has put a strain on their relationship from time to time. He has a Kryptonian dog, Krypto, who he found and rescued from Warworld during his first encounter with Mongul, that he has a strong bond with.

In his home city of Metropolis, his closest relationship is with his wife, Lois Lane and his son, Jon Lane Kent. He fell in love with Lois practically almost at first site when he started at the Daily Planet and his feelings for her have only strengthened over the years. He retired from superhero work for some time after Jon was born, but has returned to his role as the greatest hero in the world and is showing Jon how to use his powers and, if he chooses, to continue in the "family business". His best friend currently is Jimmy Olsen, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer for the Daily Planet. He is also close to his boss, Perry White and his co-workers Cat Grant and Steve Lombard.

His cousin, Kara, arrived from Krypton a few years ago, even though their ships were launched at about the same time. Now known as Supergirl, she and Clark are now close and have shared a number of adventures. Power Girl, Kara's clone, has also become a part of Clark’s extended family after proving herself to them. After a rough start to their relationship, Clark has become a father figure to his clone, Conner Kent, who goes by his given Kryptonian name by Clark and Kara, Kon-El.

In the superhero community, his closest friends are Batman (Bruce Wayne) and Wonder Woman (Diana Prince). The three of them are generally known as The Trinity and along Captain America, Iron Man, Jenny Sparks and others, are among the top leaders of the superhero community. He is also good friends with Thor and Hyperion. He has a big brother relationship with Invincible and Nightwing and is generally seen as a mentor to the superhero community as a whole.

Superman’s greatest rival is Lex Luthor. Luthor is the world’s richest and smartest man and has an obsession with bringing Superman down. Despite that, Lex and Clark have had moments where Lex has shown that he still values their friendship, none moreso than the fact that Lex knows his secret identity but has never shared it with anyone and has never made a move against Clark’s family. Their relationship is complex to say the least.

Superman has a large rogue’s gallery that includes Brainiac, the Kryptonian artificial intelligence; Doomsday, a Kryptonian monster that killed Superman a few years ago; Metallo, the cyborg with the Kryptonite heart; Mongul, the ruler of Warworld along with his son Mongul II and his sister, Mongal; General Zod and his cohorts, Ursa and Non, who escaped the Phantom Zone during the destruction of Krypton and have done again so on several occasions; and Darkseid, the god of evil and ruler of Apokolips.

Responsibility: Batman sees Gotham as "his city" and protects it fiercely.
Rivalry: It’s more from Ollie’s side than his, but he has a bit of a rivalry with Green Arrow. And he and Hal Jordan and Steve Rogers don’t see eye to eye often, either. But there is always respect.
Secret Identity: He has a secret identity of Bruce Wayne that he protects fiercely.

Abilities 118 + Skills 71 (142 ranks) + Advantages 88 + Powers 17 + Defenses 15 = 309 / 309

Build Comments: It's the gosh darn Batman. This is pretty much a carry over of my last Batman update a few weeks ago. I made the Batsuit a Device instead of Equipment because of the way it's been portrayed recently, in the New 52 and of course, in the Arkham City games.

Secret Origins: At 8 years old, Bruce Wayne watched his parents murdered before his eyes. Thomas and Martha Wayne were walking home from the Monarch Theater one night with their son, when they were held up at gunpoint by a mugger who demanded the pearl necklace that Martha was wearing. When Dr. Wayne refused to surrender it, both he and Martha were shot dead in the streets. The killer was a criminal known as Joe Chill. Fortunately, physician and social worker Leslie Thompkins was making a house call that night, and arrived to give loving comfort to the traumatized Bruce. He was then raised on the Wayne Manor estate by the families’ wise and loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth.

At their gravesite after the funeral, Bruce swore an oath to rid the city of the evil that had taken his parents' lives. A mentally gifted, but sullen child, he had very few friends during his childhood, except for his friend Thomas “Tommy” Elliot, who had also suffered the loss of a parent earlier in life. But Bruce was so focused on his mission, his lack of socialization didn’t bother him at all.

He began his physical and mental conditioning when he was 11 and then intense physical training and weight lifting at age 12. At age 13, he created a strict diet and a biofeedback treatment regimen to enable his body to develop and operate at its most proficient. At age 15, he graduated from high school and shortly thereafter he began his global sojourn, attending courses at Cambridge, the Sorbonne, and other European universities. However, he never stayed long and would often drop out after one semester. By his early-20’s, though, he had earned several degrees, including Criminal Science, Forensic sciences, Computer Sciences, Chemistry and Engineering.

Beyond academia, Bruce successfully acquired various "practical" skills, studying and receiving training in multiple disciplines under various instructors and in different countries. He trained himself to intellectual and physical perfection and acquired a variety of crime-fightings, mathematics, physics, mythology, geography, history, gymnastics, disguise, and escape artistry skills. He learned dozens of martial arts styles, man-hunting, stealth and reconnaissance, hunting under the African Bushman, both traditional and non-traditional healing and even ventriloquism under skilled practitioners. His knowledge of so many varied disciplines has made Bruce Wayne an unconventional and unpredictable individual.

Bruce Wayne returned to Gotham City at 24 ready to fulfill the promise he made to his parents. After a few attempts to apprehend criminals while wearing a ski mask and padded leather jacket met with poor results, he knew he had to reconsider his methods. Despite having all of the skills to fight crime, he still felt that there was something missing. Bruce discovered the answer late one night while sitting in his manor. He recalled his fear of bats as a child after a large one crashed through one of the windows. That inspired him to make his appearance resemble a bat's. Bruce designed himself a costume equipped with experimental technology, set up a secret lair in the caves below Wayne Manor, and set out against the crime and corruption that thrived in Gotham City as Batman.

The Story so Far: Batman's tactics to oppose crime as a vigilante at night proved successful leading him to become an urban legend in Gotham City. He considers his first true foe to be the mentally ill criminal Joe Coyne, who had an obsession with pennies, which earned him his nickname of the Penny Plunderer. Bruce keeps the giant penny he planned to use to crush some rival mobsters as a souvenir in his Batcave to this day.

He would reveal himself to Gotham at a dinner of the most influential and corrupt figures in Gotham City promising them all that their reigns on the city would eventually end. With so many of Gotham’s police on the take, including Commissioner Gillian B. Loeb, most of the Gotham City Police Department was sent in force to capture him.

Batman's first ally is assistant district attorney Harvey Dent, who shared his passion for ending organized crime in Gotham City. He gained his most powerful ally when he met police officer James Gordon, one of the few honest cops on the force. The two developed a working relationship operating outside of the law when they needed to.

Despite losing Dent to his Two-Face persona when Sal Maroni scarred half of his face with acid during his trial, Gordon and Batman end up taking down the old mob empires. Gordon became the new commissioner and set up a Bat-signal on the roof to be able to call his dark ally. The damage done to the mob leads the leaders of the families to hire a mysterious hitman called The Joker to take down the Bat. They also begin to cede territories to another idiosyncratic mobster known as The Penguin. Sofia Falcone called it the beginning of the Reign of the Freaks in Gotham.

In the 20+ years since his arrival as Batman in Gotham, the overall influence of organized crime has ebbed and flowed, but still remains a constant in the city. But the city has seen the number of “freaks” grow exponentially and characters like Black Mask, Killer Croc, Great White Shark, The Calendar Man and Solomon Grundy, just to name a few, are the new status quo of crime in Gotham.

Batman considers himself Gotham’s protector and rarely leaves the city unless he has to. However, he is a founding member of the Justice League and has found himself in global, or even galactic conflicts as a result. Currently, he is a reserve member of the League as the welfare of Gotham remains his priority.

Characterization: What is there left to say about Batman? The dark and grim hero has a personal vendetta against criminals, with a never ending will to fulfill his oath to his parents. He is paranoid and obsessive, which often makes it difficult for him to trust other people that aren't in his inner circle, like Alfred, the Robins, or the Batgirls, and even then he keeps secrets that have often caused friction between them. He keeps files on every villain and every ally so that he knows the best way to defeat them down if need be.

Despite all that, Batman has proved to have a great love for humanity, which was instilled by his parents. His father was a doctor, while his mother was a crusader against child abuse. Batman's oath of vengeance is tempered with the greater ideal of justice and above all and keeping any other children from suffering the same loss he did. He has a strict no-kill code, as he feels this would not make him any better than the criminals he fights.

To protect his secret identity, Batman has constructed a fake persona he can use in his civilian identity. To the world at large, Bruce Wayne is a self-absorbed, superficial, irresponsible playboy and philanthropist. Only his closest allies know that this attitude is just an act.

Friends and Foes: As a young child, Bruce tended to be solitary and withdrawn, a condition only exacerbated by the murder of his parents. This led to his current state as a loner who would prefer to be on his own rather than rely on others. His difficulty in trusting others is a constant issue for him to overcome, and perhaps his only weakness. He has occasionally been arrogant, treating many of his allies with various degrees of disrespect. He often imposes his exacting standards on others as he does himself. He also sometimes overestimates his own abilities, allowing foes to take advantage of that.

In contrast, there is a part of him that longed for a family as a youth and Wonder Woman believes that this is why he surrounds himself with his surrogate family of Alfred, the Robins and Batgirls. His longest and closest relationship is with his butler Alfred, who represents a father figure, confessor, and advisor. Alfred and he have clashed many times in the past, but share a deep and unbreakable bond. Next to Alfred, his closest relationships are with his partners and students, the Robins, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake and his son, Damian Wayne; and the Batgirls, Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown. Although those relationships have not always been harmonious, due to his nature as an often harsh, strict and emotionally withdrawn mentor, it is clear that he views them as his sons and daughters. He has formally adopted Dick, Tim, and Cassandra, and despite Jason Todd’s turbulent past, he has a full split of Bruce’s assets in his will.

To the world at large, Bruce Wayne looks like a rich, good looking, dim-witted playboy. But there are times when Bruce has found love. His longest, and most complex relationship is with Catwoman, Selina Kyle. He has also had relationships with Wonder Woman, Talia al Ghul, Vicki Vale, Sasha Bordeaux, Zatanna, Silver St. Cloud and a few others.

James Gordon remains a close friend and staunch ally, although their relationship has also been challenged by Batman's secretive nature. Still, Gordon remains arguably Batman's best friend.
Among the superhero community outside the Robins and Batgirls, he is closest to Superman and Wonder Woman, having a long established partnership with Superman. These relationships have never been smooth. Superman and Batman have often disagreed with each other over methods and trust. Despite their disagreements, the two hold a deep respect for each other.

Batman has arguably the largest and strangest rogue’s gallery in the superhero community. The list includes Bane (currently reformed), Catwoman (it’s complicated), Killer Croc, Mr. Freeze, Zeiss, Zsasz, Black Mask, Firefly, Clayface, The Penguin, The Riddler and several more than I care to list. He has three particular nemeses that are the most personal to him, though. First, The Joker is his most deadly foe, and considered by most to be his opposite number; the chaotic resistance to the order that Batman strives to bring to Gotham.

Two-Face, the twisted persona of Batman’s former ally Harvey Dent, is a constant reminder to Bruce of one of his greatest fears; his inability to save his friends. He feels personally responsible for not being there to stop Maroni, or to figure out how to bring Harvey’s persona back in control on a permanent basis.

Lastly, Ra’s Al Ghul, the nearly immortal world terrorist, challenges Bruce on an intellectual and personal level. He knows Batman’s secret identity, is the grandfather of Damian and was a mentor of Bruce’s during his training. Ra’s still sees Bruce as his eventual heir and constantly works to bring him to his way of thinking. While his daughter Talia harbors an unrequited, and at times obsessive love for Bruce that often leads her to deadly methods, Ra’s plans never call for Bruce’s demise, but often for those he cares about, in hopes of driving “The Detective” into his fold.

Abilities 136 + Skills 31 (62 ranks) + Advantages 30 + Powers 93 + Defenses 12 = 302 / 302

Build Comments: Not a lot of changes to my Diana in this rebuild. I really felt like I got her order in my last, fairly recent review so it was just a matter of tweaks. She’s a frightening melee combatant, befitting of the “best melee fighter in the world” praise from Batman. Giving several ranks of strength/damage to powerhouses like Superman or Thor really shouldn’t make a lot of difference with her overall ability modify her caps.

I made her Tiara and Amazonian Armor that she sports from time to time optional so they can be thrown in if the story dictates.

Secret Origins: While she had been taught since birth that she was a creation of clay, come to life by the power of her mother's need, it was not so. In reality, her mother had long ago had a tryst with Zeus, and their affair led to Diana's conception. The truth of her divinity was kept secret in order to protect Diana from the wrath of Hera, whose jealousy was notorious. When she discovered the truth, Wonder Woman cast off all other names, and chose never to return to Paradise Island

The Story so Far: Her adventures truly began when the Greek messenger god, Hermes, entrusted Wonder Woman with the protection of Zola, a young woman who was pregnant with the absent Zeus's child. He wanted to protect her from Hera, seething with jealousy and determined to kill the child. It is the goddess Strife, who informs her of lineage, leading Diana to find out that she is the natural-born daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus, who, after a violent clash, became lovers.

Wonder Woman accepted her lineage and rescued Zola from Hades, Ares and The First Born, Zeus and Hera’s first, and possibly most powerful child, that was hidden away by Hera to spare his life. Diana also discovered what happened to the male children who were born of Amazons, a conspiracy in Olympus to steal the throne from Zeus forever, and what being an immortal truly means.

After setting that part of her life in order, Diana became a founding member of the Justice League and has been a regular part of the team for most of its history.

Characterization: Wonder Woman has an unrivaled level of compassion and the ability to give love without discrimination. This can be the source of her greatest strength and a greatest weakness. She can be a headstrong, fierce and wilful person but her heart is always in the right place. While she greatly values human life, she has been shown to perform lethal actions when left with no other alternative. This has put her odds with Superman and Batman at times, but garnered her respect of other heroes like Wolverine and Hal Jordan.

Friends and Foes: Diana is close to her mother, Hippolyta, and her people, The Amazons of Themiscyra. She is strong relationships with her sister, Donna Troy and the current Wonder Girl, Cassie Sandsmark. She had a relationship with Col. Steve Trevor for a while, but it ended badly. The two have remained friends and she has hinted that reconciliation is possible. Among her closest friends in the superhero community are Batman and Superman, with the 3 of them forming The Trinity. She has a great respect for Captain America, Thor, Valkyrie, Wolverine and she and J’onn J’onzz have been close as well, although they had a brief falling out because of him knowing her parentage and not telling her, but they have become friends again.

As she has found them, she also close to most of her many half brothers and sisters from Zeus, most among them Hercules, Zola and Lennox. She has many enemies as well, including several members of the Olympian Pantheon, including Apollo and Demeter. She has tenuous relationshisps with Hades, Poseidon and Hera and her sister Strife and she have battled, but have also worked together when it suits both their needs.

Initially, she her brother Hercules did not see eye-to-eye, but after finding a common enemy in Ares, the two of them joined forces to stop him and since then they have been close. Diana even decided to relocate to Los Angeles where she and Herc now live together, along with Amadeus Cho, and are the cities’ protectors from the machinations of the Olympians.

Abilities 126 + Skills 18 (36 ranks) + Advantages 28 + Powers 151 + Defenses 14 = 337 / 337

Build Comments: At the previous J-Mart, I had decided to get rid of the Multiverse, ala the original Crisis on Infinite Earths. Originally, my plan for Kal-L was to have him stuck on my prime Earth, posing as Clark’s “Uncle Cal Kent”. But when I started thinking about having the Thorpocamultiverse again, I figured I would create an amalgam of Earth-2 and the Ultimate universe. That sets up for shared world with Kal-L and Ultimate Thor, among interesting combinations.

As you would expect, a build of Kal-L is just a slightly tweaked version of Kal-El. Kal-L gets Accurate Attack to be a little more accurate, and he has a few more ranks in some skills because of his experience. But in essence, he’s the same Man of Steel. I haven't really thought much about continuity for my other Earths yet, so there's a lot of Work in Progress notes in their write ups at this point.

Earth-5150 Secret Origins: Superman was born Kal-L of the planet Krypton. His father was the esteemed scientist, Jor-L, and his mother was a librarian named Lora. While Kal-L was still a toddler, his father discovered that the planet Krypton teetered on the brink of absolute destruction. Realizing that there was not enough time to save everyone on the planet, he deposited his son inside of a specially designed rocket ship and launched him into outer space. As Kal-L's rocket broke the atmosphere, the planet Krypton exploded.

After traveling through space for an indeterminate amount of time, his rocket eventually crash-landed in a small farming community named Smallville, on the planet Earth. Though at first placed in an orphanage, Kal-L was soon adopted by the Kents and given the name Clark.

The Story so Far: WORK IN PROGRESS

Characterization: Superman of Earth-5150 is the first and greatest hero of his generation. Respected the world over, and a legend in several other galaxies, he’s the standard that all heroes are measured by. The only other hero with his level of respect is Captain America.

Friends and Foes: WORK IN PROGRESS
