haha, geez- I had to check who was making the game again, because "Cool Nazi Iconography in a Sympathetic Character" is SUCH a "Japan Thing". Turns out from reading your notes that it's just a fan-art thing, so it wasn't necessarily the fault of the game designers :).

This character really does have the coolest look (that minidress where she's inspecting the troops? Waifu material). I dig the origin story, too- her mother's sacrifice kind of horribly being the thing that unites the world- turning evil and needing to be stopped. Her shared sacrifice is pretty great, too- very tragic and noble.

ahhhh, the pain of "fitting characters into PC points values". Something I know so little about these days, having given up on it years ago. It's a noble attempt at attaining balance, but holy cow, it's just not worth the effort to me anymore :)! You should post up some "so here's the ACTUAL way the character comes off" non-PC builds, just for fun!
I have Parasoul, Painwheel, and Valentine already built and just in need of filling out the complications and writing out the summaries to complete. Mostly I just got bored and wandered off while in the middle of the process.
ah, the "quick burnout" aspect of character building. I mourn the loss of so many former prominent builders, that I find myself always ready to needle the people whose threads I follow. I still bug BSDigitalQ for dropping his own OC-verse thread!

WAIFU WARZ - Disney Edition

Post by squirrelly-sama »

And time for a short intermission from Skullgirls to build up some Disney Princesses. Not faithful recreations at low PL, no that wouldn't do. It's the Modern Day, we need our princesses to be able to kick ass and take names once they run out of chewing gum. We need to power creep that shit, girl power mother fucker!

So now it's time for the Princess of Power block.

Notes:
Snow White the first of the Disney princesses. From the classical tale of the same name Snow White is the star of the first Disney Animated movie, debuting in 1397.

She's the princess, daughter of the late king who was forced into being a Skullery maid by her step mother the wicked queen Grimhilde. After the queen learned that the girl had surpassed her in beauty she hired a woodsman to assassinate her. Unfortunately the woodsman was smitten with her and could not bare to kill her, instead telling her to flee into the woods and providing the queen some butchered game to fool her. In the woods Snow White eventually ran into the Dwarves who took her in. Eventually the queen learned of Snow Whites survival and took the form of a crone to trick the girl into eating a poisoned apple that would kill her, however the girl merely fell into a deep sleep. Eventually she was rescued by the kiss of her Prince and rides off with him.

A pretty simple and basic tale, with Disney presenting it pretty faithfully. The movie was a huge risk for the studio as the feature would be one of the first of it's kind. The studio used new technology, tested through many of their shorter animations before and during the movie's production, in order to make fluid and realisitc motion for the characters. In the end they succeeded and jumpstarted the rise of Disney's massive influence over the entertainment industry.

The movie doesn't hold up too well when looking back on it, compaired to modern films. The appearance of the then amazingly realistic Snow White looks uncanny compaired to modern animation and the story is rather simple short and a bit shallow. The movie isn't bad, far from it, but the passage of time has simply rendered it... less impressive when placed against movies that came after. What was once a ground breaking and breathtaking piece of animation is now more appreciated for it's historical and cultural significance then anything else.

Gameplay Notes:
Snow White here is strange sort of area and ranged fighter. She isn't weak in close range but most of her options work best at range and her Broom/Sweeping attacks let her trip up opponents to escape.

She's a Puppeteer type fighter, using minions to attack but they are mostly taking the form of other effects than summons with her only summon being calling up a random dwarf to defend her as she stands back to try and support him.

She use her animal friends (move object) to trip up opponents or summon them as a swarm of animals that bite and scratch her opponents. There's also a targeted version to attack from random angles as animals throw, bite, or drop objects on the opponent from around the screen, the last of which is able to home in on the target.

Her Fairest Of Them All affliciton lets her act scared and vulnerable to cause her opponents to hesitate to hurt her and even attempt to aid her.

Lastly she has her poison apple, in a fighting game I'd invision this as a finisher. she stops the fight to pull out a basket of apples and then offers one to the opponent. If the oppnent "resists" taking an apple then Sleeping Beauty eats it and suffers the effect instead. It could also be interuptable if used prematurely (without super meter charge). In MnM this would just be a Limit, maybe a complication as well. She's vulnerable to the poison apple and always has it on her, she can be tricked into eating it since she herself doesn't know it's poisoned.

That said about Snow White, the Old Hag is still REALLY FREAKY, and part of why Disney was so good at the horror stuff back in the day- they weren't afraid to terrify small children.

Background: The second Disney Princess, Cinderella is originates from a fairytale of the same name. She made her debut in Disney's Cinderella (1950) which was remade (unnecessarily and much worse) in 2015.

In the wake of her father's untimely demise, Cinderella is left in the unfortunate care of her cruel stepmother and jealous stepsisters, who constantly mistreat her, forcing Cinderella to work as a scullery maid in her own home. Cinderella is kept isolated, her only companions being the mice and birds that live in the walls and garden. When Prince Charming holds a ball, the evil stepmother does not allow her to go. Cinderella, aided by her kind Fairy Godmother and equipped with a beautiful ballgown and a unique pair of glass slippers, attends, only to have to leave at midnight when the Fairy Godmother's spell is broken. The prince goes out looking for her, with only Cinderella's forgotten glass slipper as a clue. The step mother finds out and locks Cinderella away in the attic when the Prince's servants visits their home only for her to break free and prove herself to be the mysterious girl the prince met.

Now here is where Disney starts taking some liberties. Father dies to avoid unfortunate implications about his allowance of the abuse. There's a lot more plot related filler regarding the prince pushed in there. Cinderella is given impossible trials by her step-mom to be allowed to go to the ball. and she visits the prince during his ball 3 times, slipping away later that night. They sanitized both the Stepmother's abuse (though upped the sinister manipulation to more than make up for it) and the karmic punishments faced by the sisters are dropped for being too gruesome and bloody.

Biggest change is probably that they made a Fairy Godmother up on the spot. Yeah, that concept wasn't a thing in fairytales, Disney just pulled that out their ass because apparently they didn't want to just have Cinderella use a wishing tree.

If we go back further to the Albanian source of the folktale it gets even weirder. Cindy's dead mom left her a magic cow, her step mom keeps giving her impossible chores to complete to have an excuse to beat her but the cow magics her some super powers to complete them. Having enough of these shenanigans the step mom convinces the dad to kill the cow but lo, it turns out the cow is now a magic zombie cow and continues to grant Cindy magical girl powers like the worlds creepiest mascot character. The stepmom then decides to have Cindy shove her face in the ash pit because she don't like her being prettier then her own daughters but the zombie cow uses it's undead cow magic to give her a magical girl transformation to let her go to the prince's ball. She goes, comes back, and resumes her normal life as a random peasant girl desperately wishing for prince-senpai to notice her. He does and holds another ball, she goes home, rinse wash and repeat until the prince steals her shoe and uses it to try and find her. From there it's pretty much the same as the Grimm version, the Step-mom forces her daughters to cut up their feet to fit in the slipper but it fails because they notice the blood and Cinderella is saved by a messenger pigeon letting them know about the tied up girl in the closet which then picks out the sisters' eyes.

This movie here was a critical success that the studio desperately needed. While they were doing pretty well their features hadn't been received quite as well as Snow White with their biggest one before Cinderella being Dumbo. This movie was a return to their roots, a princess fairytale and relaunched Disney back into the big leagues after experiencing several flops.

Gameplay Notes:
Cinderella functions similarly to Snow White, the two are ranged attackers with area control however Cinderella here is a more offense oriented version. with less Melee potential.

She's more straightforward, not relying on set up to give opportunity to attack like Snow White. She has weaker but more spamable ranged attacks (multi-attack) along with her Fairy Godmother granted powers letting her debuff at perception range and having several strong area attacks.

Her supers are her self healing, calling on her Fairy Godmother to magic her up a new dress and heal any damage done to her. She has a a Line area attack where she enters a carriage to run over the target and drag them across the screen for continued damage (secondary effect). Her last super is her Glass Slipper, she pretends to trip and loose it prompting her opponent to pick it up and return it to her where in they get surprise combo attacked by Cinderella kicking the shit out of them.

Oh lookie, more Snow White art. ...With lesbians!
Image

Artist goes by Ehryel she's drawn some rather well known yuri fanart of the disney princesses as well as Kim Possible and a few other franchises. Most of her disney work is worksafe but she has some nude stuff too. It's deviant art so it hides those by default so the link is work safe. Mostly the art is good, also lesbians so... it's like 200% more win.

This is fairly true- artistically it doesn't look as good as later films (for obvious reasons), and the characters are REALLY one-dimensional. Snow is just "Generic Good-Natured Person" to the point that Wreck-It Ralph 2 uses her as this total space-case sing-song-y weirdo. She's just so utterly BLAND compared to literally every other Disney Princess. Even Aurora, with 12 minutes of screentime, manages to have more depth and strength of character.

The Evil Queen, too- her entire issue is just... vanity? She's so menacing and evil and she's just out to kill Snow for being pretty? It's so strange, especially compared to later villains.

If you make the movie today, people would crap all over the hero and villain for this stuff. Never mind that the Prince is in it for like 35 seconds, and his "Love's First Kiss" comes after just watching her once before in his life. The movie is easily the straightest example of Disney's Tropes ever, to the point where 20-30 years of subversions has done literally nothing to prevent jokes about it.

That said, of the Face Characters in the Theme Parks, Snow White is nearly ALWAYS the most beautiful one. I don't know why that's a thing, but it's definitely a thing.

Really, the best part of the movie is the bit with the Dwarfs mourning Snow- Grumpy, who'd been nothing but a pain in the ass and decried her "MUSH!", is so despondent and ashamed that he can't even look at the others. The movie earns an eternal "Pass" for being the originator and for being so artistically rare in its day, and even WALT felt that they'd never quite surpassed it, but as a film, you could never release it today.

And YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Ehryel's art is amazing. I used her Meg/Ariel pic for my Disney Builds, even :). Sadly, she's basically stopped producing stuff nearly as much (I guess she's done a few drawings in 2018, but not many), and hasn't done a Disney Yuri pic in ages.
