I just had a thought... I wonder how the United Nations reacted to the Merge? I mean, a lot of new countries would have made it over! Attempts to join it would quite likely be at their highest since the Cold War ended.

I suspect it would be rather confusing as well. Alot of the countries that came over would be monarchies and like New Mechanisburg/Latveria would not want to give that up!

The last I heard, a democratic government is not required for a state to join the UN.

The criteria for admission of new members to the UN as set out in Chapter II, Article 4 of the UN Charter:
Membership in the United Nations is open to all peace-loving states which accept the obligations contained in the present Charter and, in the judgement of the Organization, are able and willing to carry out these obligations.

The admission of any such state to membership in the United Nations will be effected by a decision of the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council.
This does not set any specific system of government as a requirement for a state to join the UN, meaning that it is possible for either New Mechanicsburg or Latveria to join if either of their rulers wanted to.

Then in both Aggie's and Doom's case, I suspect they just didn't want to give up their hard fought autonomy.

Well, Wakanda was a member of the UN in its former universe so they at least did apply.

And I think even Latveria was a UN country as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if Doctor Doom tried to reapply.

Interesting points. Just for my own bookkeeping, I don't see the need for another entry (yet) so I'm just bookmarking for myself that I am up to date.

Should anyone want to detail further on the UN to warrant an entry, please go ahead!

Carry on.

London Borough of Camden:

This borough of London is home to the British Library, British Museum, BT Tower, Great Ormond Street Hospital and London Zoo.

Getting in and out of the borough is easy because you can find Euston, Kings Cross and St. Pancras International railway stations there, allowing for direct services to the Midlands, the North of England and Scotland, with Euston hosting the Caledonian Sleeper to Edinburgh and Inverness. St. Pancras is known for its services to the East Midlands and to Gatwick and Luton Airports as well as for its Eurostar trains serving Lille, Paris, Brussels and even going as far east as Amsterdam.

Camden is also home to the largest concentration of X-Ds living in London. The borough also plays host to the famous Camden Market. Pre-Merge, it was the place to go to find clothes for various subcultures, all sorts of streetfoods and a lot of vintage bric-a-brac. Today, one can also find magical services, elf-made clothes and even forges for weapons, jewellery and other metalwork. (Hand-made melee weapons are legal to buy, sell and own in Britain if you're over 18 years of age. Getting a bag that can hide it after purchase is very well-advised and can also be obtained at the Market).

The BT Tower is being called the BT Candle by locals as fliers are using it as a landmark for nearby Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road.

Great Ormond Street Hospital specialises in the medical treatment of children. The amount of healers there mean that native patients are getting quite used to magic actually existing now with the side benefit of their parents seeing that magic in and of itself is not as dangerous as first thought. On occasion, the stress of being so far away from home has been known to trigger a child's powers, which quickly made GOSH one of the authorities on super-powered biology and psychology. The hospital even has its own chapel, which is a Grade II* listed building. GOSH also owns the copyright for all Peter Pan works, given to it by J.M. Barrie, the playwright and author of the original Peter Pan story.

Highgate Cemetery is notable both for some of the people buried there (including Douglas Adams and Karl Marx) as well as for its de facto status as a nature reserve. The Cemetery is completely off-limits at night without permission from the Council.

London Zoo now exhibits several post-Merge species, and is known for having multiple guard patrols with at least one or two Pokémon. After all, the Zoo doesn't want anyone to try snatching their animals for use in a dark ritual or for (not-so) alternative medicine. Lady Heterodyne has recently donated a breeding pair of Wasp Eaters to the Zoo.

Neo, I was wondering if there are any laws concerning the act of intentionally gaining powers? Is there an international law concerning it or does it vary from place to place?

That’s the current plot of the Agents and Powers game. It’s also playing a pretty big role in a fanfic/ short story I’m writing.

Neo will probably extrapolate on this, but I think they’re currently looking at the processes rather than the end result. According to Dana Scully, there is currently only one known method of creating super beings. I am currently operating under the notion of “that they know of.”

Personally, I would tend toward varying place by place. Some countries will want to breed super beings. Others will want to minimize their number. And even then, if there is a law, there will always be countries that disregard it.

Only one RELIABLE method of creating superpowered beings. However, given the many new possibilities opened up by the Merge, others will surely come to light. But so far, legislation is slow on the uptake and in many places, trying to give a person superpowers is not forbidden per se....however, in most Western countries, it would fall under the general ban on human testing for medical reasons.

The Looking Glass Cyber-café:

This 24/7 cyber-café, located just across the street from the Time in a Bottle in London has the usual internet access and printing services available, and it's known to host affordable lessons in computer literacy, internet usage and online security. The till section has a huge selection of gift cards for various online services as well as Paypoint services (Including Collect+) and a cryptocurrency ATM. It's also known for its discretion. The computers each come with several popular VPNs, Tor, I2P and premium anti-virus software pre-installed so you can access geo-locked and dark web sites, just supply your own usernames and passwords.

Of course, the main reason a lot of London powers go to the Glass is to use the gift cards and Paypoint services to buy what they want online without having to give away something really important: Their real names and addresses. And it really is the only way for some XDs to buy anything online at all! It does help that the Glass has an Amazon Locker available.

That's been added to the Master Document, under the section for the British Isles, just under the time in a Bottle.

(Also saved to PDF but forgot to change date on cover. Next update.)
