Tech: Dot-Com

Inert, a dot-com usually resembles a piece of circular candy-shelled chocolate about the size of a dime. If it has configured so, the dot-com will have the (usually circular) icon of its owner on its side. The tough and slick shell prevents most accidental damage to a dot-com but it can be deliberately crushed with some ease. Its surface resembles a gecko's footpad and thus it can stick to almost anything but the effect seems more magnetic than sticky. If set to, the dot-com's touchscreen surface will adapt to the color and simple patterns of what it touches, such as skin. They are commonly worn near the ear and could easily be mistaken for a bluetooth earpiece (which they are also).

Dot-coms come with their own chargers but can be charged by heat. The amount of heat needed is not large and dot-coms have been slowly charged by sunlight or even rubbing (heating via friction). Powered up, the dot-com has a sophisticated verbal interface that is very good at using and combining its functions as long as the user is precise and clear in their compact instructions. The dot-com's 'voice' is either the organization's default voice or, if given permission, the user's voice which the dot-com can learn quickly. It will take superhuman hearing or a very good perception roll to hear the interface talking to its user.

The dot-com functions as a very sophisticated comm-link and it does this very well. It can also record audio and pickup radio signals. Less-disciplined heroes have used the dot-com for listening to local radio or downloaded songs. The most advanced feature is the ability to translate one preprogrammed audible language. The translation is very simple, obvious and slow, requiring an earnest effort by involved parties to sincerely communicate. As it is a simple alphabetical substitution, the dot-com can also translate Morse code easily.

While it was not the dot-com's intended purpose, some stealthy heroes have noticed how easy it was to secretly place dot-coms on their enemies to record and track them. And so that function was added to the current dot-com models. This strategy is so old now that only the most inexperienced of opponents don't expect this strategy and have easy countermeasures for it (usually crushing the dot-com). The language translation is disabled to allow more recording space and no distortion of the recordings. It is assumed recovered data can be translated later.

A dot-com is usually seamlessly networked to more sophisticated computers and communicators which can give the initial impression that a dot-com is much more capable than it really is. Some teams carry a few extra dot-coms because you never know what allies you might make in your endeavors.

For all of their capabilities, dot-coms come with the warning that they are very easily tracked, eavesdropped and jammed. Heroes are warned not to overly depend on these devices and have strategies for doing without them. At the very least, wise superteams realize that there are no secrets over a dot-com network and to watch what they reveal.

Tech: Unstable Molecule Fabric (UMF)

Unstable Molecule Suits

Costumes made of Unstable Molecule Fabric (UMF) can withstand any powers and alternate forms of their wearer. UMF is damage-resistant, cleans easily and will heal minor damage over time. The UMF will be comfortable within the temperature extremes spanned by human civilization. UMF can be made transparent so it may not be obvious that seemingly 'less-dressed' heroes are actually well protected from the cold.

Some more advanced outfits can change into one or more different outfits and alter their color scheme to blend into the local environment better. UMF costumes are not typically released to the general public as, under very rare and deliberate circumstances, the UMF can be altered to convert nearby matter to more UMF.

UMF, Mark I
A simple outfit that can survive the user's powers and forms, offering no other advantages. This version is free as I feel that a character shouldn't be penalized for having more awkward powers than other heroes.

UMF, Mark II
Protection 5 5ep/1cp
This version offers some non-stacking protection for those fragile heroes whose nature won't allow them to easily wear armor.

UMF, Mark III
Protection 4 4ep
Instant Change (one other preset outfit) 1ep
Total: 5ep/1cp

This version loses some innate protection for the flexibility of offering another outfit.

UMF, Mark IV
Protection 2 2ep
Instant Change (one other preset outfit) 1ep
Cammo Clothing (variable modes; desert, forest, urban, arctic, etc., +1) 2ep
Total: 5ep/1cp

If you wish that character have to buy Immunity to their character's power in their own suits, add 1ep of Immunity and take out a point of other features to any version.
Even the versions that don't have any appearance-altering power can be stored under normal clothes as an apparent bathing suit/underwear either via retraction or transparency.

Retro Jackets

Post by Mutie Scum »

Image

It was at one point stylish for superheroes to wear jackets. These jackets could often stretch over armor and seemingly protect a user against winter cold, even if the jacket proper only covered the torso. The stretchiness of the jackets could be explained by being composed of UMF material. It is a mystery as to how a partial jacket could protect an entire body against cold.

Currently, the jackets seem dated as fashion and are rarely worn. http://www.cbr.com/top-five-jacket-wear ... the-1990s/

Tech: Communicard

Post by Mutie Scum »

Image

A Communicard has all of the capabilities of a cutting-edge smartphone. It also has a radio and acts as ID card and key for many devices. It is difficult to operate a communicard in combat so most are preset for the most combat effective configuration.

Communicards are about the size of a credit or business card and can morph into the appearance of one preset more 'mundane' card to help keep secret identities.

Helescort

The early classes of Helicarrier were much smaller than the current vanguard. Some of these old models are discounted or 'gifted' to promising superteams. The plans for Helescorts (Helicoperted Escorts) have been stolen and some villainous teams have 'liberated' or home-grown helescorts of their own.

There won't be any pictures or stats this post for a Helescort as I am using the Sky Fortress from the MnM Gamemaster Guide (p. 216-219) for inspiration which I am quite charmed by. To run up to the nearest five Equipment Points (so as to use Character Points more effectively), the 16-point stock Sky Fortress can be buffed up to a 20-point Helescort as the team customizes their new base.

Tech: Flying Cars

Post by Mutie Scum »

Image

Flying cars are either custom-designed to be airborne or are regular cars upgrade to the third dimension. Their sizes can range from Large to Gargantuan. The cars are fragile enough that it is recommended they travel on the ground when possible. The cars can swim at a very low movement rate. The cars can be remote controlled but they are flat-footed as the interface is very simple and not designed for combat. The remote control can be manually switched off by a driver/pilot. The flying car can change appearance into its mundane street inspiration.

Flying Car:
Base Size: Large 1ep
Flight 5 10ep
ae Ground 5 1ep
Swimming 1 1ep
Remote Control 1ep
Instant Change (to mundane street car) 1ep

Strength (up to 8)
Toughness (up to 11)
Defense (up to 5 points)
Speed (up to 8)
Extra Features

Size Table added for convenience:

Code: Select all

SIZE	STRENGTH	TOUGHNESS	DEFENSE	COST
LARGE	4 7 -1	1
HUGE	8 9 -2	2
GARG.	12 11 -4	3

Tech: Fantasti-Flare

Post by Mutie Scum »

Image

A Fantasti-Flare is a standard flare gun that through ingenious design, ignites as a flaming '4' symbol. There is an Avengers variant that displays a flaming circled 'A' symbol instead.

The flare is bought as a Change Environment (Light like a sunny day) 1. Each flare is only 1ep but is only good for one use. However, the equipment cost for flares is assumed to be an allowance; the flares are replenished when the user is back at base.

Tech: Quinjet

Post by Mutie Scum »

Image

A Quinjet is a very well-designed VTOL vehicle with a minigun as its weapon.

Again, no stats. I am using the VSTOL Folding Jet stats from the Second Edition book, Agents of Freedom. I've been very impressed by the book enough to bring it forward to the current edition as much as I can. I particularly like the movie version of the Quinjets (usually I'm more impressed by the comic version of the Marvel Universe) and will use that art.
