This is why, as a comic loving, SF loving, RPG playing nerd, I consider myself to be the Fandom Stranger....

I love a spirited and honest debate. I love having my philosophies, ethics, and opinions challenged. I really, truly do. But, my god, not only do so many people not know how to argue these days, too many of them will instantly rush to censorship and censure when they find their opinions challenged at all.
That's why i miss them having Debate Class/Political Sciences in Schools. There, you learned how to honestly talk to someone whose opinions/belief's were different than yourself. It made all of us in the class(yes, even the titular Jock) realize that everyone had a right to their opinions/belief's and to "Agree to Disagree". That's also another reason i love this site(i haven't been to RA in so long,it's not even funny),as we can have civilized conversation's 'bout this stuff without acting like a Spoiled Child at a Grocery Store....

I don't want to have to constantly updating folks as to the changes RPG.net makes, but I feel this is relevant to make:

As an update to the aforementioned rules, RPG.net has updated their policy again regarding ICE, the Border Patrol and Illegal Immigration.

It is as follows:

There's a new policy announcement in Trouble Tickets regarding GAs on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement department (ICE); specifically, fuck ICE, fuck anybody who doesn't fuck ICE, fuck anybody who doesn't put lights in his window and stay up all night fucking ICE. Border Patrol too, while we're at it.

https://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?83 ... st21953863
After consultation between the staff, we've realized a strong majority of us are no longer willing to mod group attacks against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This is not an open license for revenge porn or personal attacks on specific posters or the like, but we aren't going to pretend any more that they're within the bounds of civility, or that they deserve to be treated as if they were. If you don't understand the basis for this policy, read the news. If you have read the news and still think we need to clarify why we've done this, please find a qualified professional to administer a Voight-Kampff examination at your earliest opportunity.

In conclusion: If you support ICE at this point, you would have called the Gestapo on the people surreptitiously moving into your neighbor's attic and huffed that you were only following the law.

So if you post on RPG.net, regardless of your feelings on the matter, please be aware of this change.

I've moved all of discussion regarding the current border policies to this thread. If you wish to share your thoughts on that topic, please go here. I don't want this topic to become that topic.

And minor update, but apparently if you ever feel the urge to make even a mild joke regarding people's taste in films:

then you should apparently ignore it.

That's an amazing level of moderator power trip. Pax Chi's comment actually acknowledges "[d]ifferent strokes for different folks[,]" and his criticism are clearly directed at the films and not the people.

"there are people who will stick up for The Last Jedi"

that sounds like he's directing criticism at the people, not the film, on a particularly contentious subject prone to regular flamewars across the internet.

it may have just been a joke, but as someone who's been going there for about 12 years, they've had to put up with enough crap that yes, passive-aggressively calling people idiots for liking a movie you don't will get you kicked out of a thread. a REAL mod power trip would be if he'd caught a multi-day ban for it

The problem there is that the person I quoted (*pulls off mask dramatically* For I am Pax Chi!) made a similar comment about people who stick up for Batman v. Superman and Man of Steel and received no warnings or punishment of any kind. So either we both did something wrong and only I was punished, or we both did nothing wrong and the moderator used it as an excuse to ban me from the thread anyway.

This is the problem with nebulous, subjective community standards that have silly shit like “being hostile” as a guideline. One moderator can let something slide, another moderator can come down on you like a ton of bricks for the exact same behavior.

Yeah, yeah, it’s a private service and they’re free to run it however they want. But, well, when a bratty prima donna starts telling the other kids they can’t use the red shovel when playing in her sandbox, only she can... Sooner or later the other kids stop wanting to play in her sandbox.

the difference here is the lack of passive aggressive insult. the other poster didn't give any judgement, they just said

"... I've read some complaints from folks who thought BvS and Man of Steel were the most brilliant pieces of superhero film and all that colorful stuff is dumb and for kids..."

or more simply "people who liked those movies don't like this one"

they then say, "...but I think it's clear which way is going to get you better audience reception at this point.", but that's not actually casting aspersion on those people who liked the Snyder films.

Because I acknowledge that people who like things that I don't like exist and end my statement with a phrase that likewise acknowledges that taste is subjective and different things apply to different people?

Whatever RPG.net's past issues might be, I feel that someone would have to be looking to be offended to be offended by my statement.

"I was surprised to learn that there are people who like vanilla, but then again there are people who like chocolate. Personally, I say strawberry is the best. But to each his own."

"Don't make these kinds of swipes for people liking the flavors you don't like, they go against our attempt to make our forum a rainbow-colored hug box."
