I will start offrom with saying I am usually the more straight laced type of player. Not to far off the norm. That being said I have one set of characters that were meant for humor only.
In the late 1980s our group was playing Marvel and Gurps most of the time. I was part of a duo that consisted of my best friend playing. Sgt. Spuge (don't ask) and i was Captain Goody. Sgt. Was a martial arts type with a sneaky personality and well just as likely to lift a wallet or to as to punch a bad guy.
Good old Captain Goody was a square Jared paragon type who loved all that was good in the world and extremely oblivious to his partners bad ways...ie pick pocketing, womanizing and all around devious nature. Our last adventure was fighting vampires and Sgt left us to "protect " the civilians. We were at a all girl college at the time. :/ long story short between my characters oblivious nature and We'll Sgt . Being Sgt. We had a good time...the running joke was Captain never did catch on that his kids did not look like him.....

In all my years of gaming,i've only made 2 that stand out(all the other characters I've made were based in one way or another on these 2):

AD&D(2E)=I made a Thief with the name of(I kid you not) Che-Kin. a human of average height&weight with a Thick red Muttonstach, this guy was a perfect second-story artist but he had three problems: he would use ANY small creatures(even babies!) as "Trap detectors" in areas he wasn't sure about; He was so greedy that he'd strip you after he knocked you out; and he was a total Coward, running and/or Hiding from the slightest bit confrontations, unless he had the upper hand

Marvel Super Heroes RPG= The First super hero PC I ever made, The Great Neon-Hornet: Born Jasper Jon Longstreet(I was really big into Civil War History at the time),this unassuming young man was riding his bike past a Nuclear reactor when a Tornado Struck it pulling him up into it as well and granting him the Powers of the Wind!.......As you can tell, this origin had more holes in it than a Backwoods road.

I've PCed a lot of silly characters over the years, and most of them are just embarassing. XD Most of my favourite silly characters that I've played are NPCs from various campaigns, though.

I ran a .Hack inspired campaign years ago in 3e D&D, and I had an NPC that the party would encounter from time to time called The Product Placement Dragon™. He gave out product-themed quests and gave these big Smaug-style speeches that always turned into advertisements. My PCs loved him, and he was fun to play.

Another NPC I had that was meant to be a one-note joke but took on a life of his own was in my long-running 2e M&M game, a guy called Combat Wombat. He was the jobberiest of jobber villains, but the PCs sympathized with him so much that they sort of adopted him into their group.

I can't say that I had a REALLY goofy character, but I did have one 'inspired' creation.

My friends and I played Champions: The Next Millenium (Fuzion). My character was a power-suited/ /Ironman character. His name was MANGA. He obtained his armor from his niece that was a research engineer. He was a comicbook artist. He crafted the armor to match a comicbook character he was trying out. He would use the armor and then write a comic about MANGA. He also would show up at comic-cons to promote his own comic.

It was a quirky character.

I statted up a speedster for Heroes Unlimited one time (just by luck), and gave him an outfit like an OC I'd already created, so I was into him and made him elite with swords. Then I rolled on one of those nine-million Random Tables that Palladium loves so much, and ended up with "no face" as a deformity. So I was running around with a slick onesie, swords, super-speed powers... and a completely featureless, bald head.

Let's see, strange characters I've played and I'll just mention characters that I've done on the various incarnations of the Green Ronin boards..

Jamie, the young person that quite literally got wet the first time they got excited, turning into a puddle of goo. Became intersexual as a result of being able to take any human form. Learned martial arts to master inner strength and control their form.

A cloth-kinetic, worked in the clothing room of the super half way house she lived in. Created a tshirt for Lois Lane with 'I (Heart) Superman' in infrared light reflecting fabric.

A homeless man that was a cross between the movies Falling Down and Rorschach, giving everything in the endless fight against crime.

A beautiful young woman with an aquatic power set and the dolphin boyfriend.

Cold Ethyl, the famous world wide and award winning actress, known for her charity works- that happens to be a corpse. Known for being involved with several musicians over the years.

Not a PC and never actually played, but the son of Dionysus, inspired by the real world found of Girls Gone Wild.

I'm sure that there are more, those are just the ones that really stand out.

I've played (briefly) a Victorian Age Barbara Gordon who was the only woman to survive an attack by Jack the Ripper.

I also played Putty, a detached piece of Clayface that refused to be reabsorbed.

S. E. Bral
A hard boiled detective whose brain lived on past his body due to his latent telekinetic abilities. Once free of his body, he was able to make green lantern type energy constructs, most commonly used to make a body for himself so as to gross people out less.

In a Star Wars campaign one of my players decided to play an Astromech Droid....with levels in the Soldier class. He spent every last credit installing hidden weapons: a blaster rifle, a flamethrower, and pitching machine-esque arm for grenades. He named him R2-H8 or Hate for short. He had one of the highest kill counts out of the entire group, not because of ungodly stats or superior weapons, but because NO ONE expected the fricking R2 unit to be packing heat! By the time the enemies realized their mistake he had usually gotten a full auto blast or flamethrower strike off with the enemies being flat-footed and cleared out the enemy mooks. The best part is he was played my usually mellow friend, so it was great to seem unleash a bit .

Grudge: Bob Barker! Gee thanks! No one asked me if I wanted to be neutered.
He's a dog!: Linus has to make a Will check at -5 to avoid chasing squirrels, thrown sticks etc. whenever someone calls out "squirrel" or "fetch". Similarly, Persuasion and Deception checks against Linus get +5 if they accompany food or belly scratching.
Prejudice: Linus is a dog. There are several social ramifications to this, not the least of which is buildings not letting him in.
Quirk: Linus misses Professor and Mama Newman, and his most preciously guarded posession is the faded aqua-coloured blanket that was his baby-blanket/kennel liner.

Dog, English, Spanish

Defense
Dodge 8, Parry 8, Fortitude 5, Toughness 12, Will 15

Power Points
Abilities 50 + Powers 85 + Advantages 16 + Skills 15 (30 ranks) + Defenses 13 = 179

Background Roy Newman was a retired Nasa scientist who had worked on the Apollo program. When he retired, he, his wife Eunice, and their pet west-higthland white terrier, Linus; moved from Cocoa Beach to the calmer Gulf side of Florida. Linus was among the animals affected by the the Omnisphere after it was unearthed a few years ago. Linus kept his heightened intelligence and powers a secret and continued his responsibility taking care of the Newmans until, recently, when they went the way of all beings.

No longer content to learn from the Newmans' books or the magic box (which he now knows is called 'television'), Linus has decided to see the world and use his super-canine powers to help Dog's Best Friend.

Real World Stuff After the problems that plagued Zero Man in Neil's San Francisco game, he and I made a a concerted effort to find a character idea that actually would fit what Neil wanted to do as a gamemaster in a 'super hero' game. The result was a super-powered, talking dog.

Neil likes weird shit.

Thankfully, my family has had dogs most of my life. And several of them have been West Highland Terriers. Neil's family, conversely, never had dogs, so the dogs Neil has known best, over the years, are likely my family's as well. It was Neil who suggested that Linus be a Westie. And since West Highland Terriers are a Scottish breed, I ended up playing Linus with my attempt at a Scottish accent, which is also my sorry attempt at a Sean Connery impression.
Ken wrote: Mon Mar 13, 2017 5:39 am The thing about playing Alpha Dog that made it challenging is trying to play him like a talking dog, not a dog with a human brain. This has meant things like having him actually be a layabout when not on a case, and having him react positively to having his belly rubbed.

But one of my favourite moments, in keeping to this, was when... well, there was a member of the team who was more member than teammate who, for a bizarre set of reasons, was generally oblivious to the consequences of his actions. And on one particular adventure, his car materialised from his home dimension inside a mall. And, so, rather than exiting the car, he decided to drive to where the problem was. The only reason why he wasn't killing mall patrons was because his pixie sidekick (Neil likes weird shit), was magiking people out of the way.

Well, besides me, as a player, being tired of the "damn the consequences, I'll do what's funny" approach of that character/player, I decided on a course of action for Alpha Dog that was a) in character and b) damn the consequences, he did what I thought was funny.

The nutbag teammate (Harry) had stopped at a Subway sandwich shop to get a sandwich. I'm playing a super-powered dog, who was unhappy with his teammate's disregard for people. He did one of the things that dog's do to indicate displeasure, all over Harry's sandwich. The addition of... a warm, salty condiment... didn't go over well. It very nearly turned into a hero-vs-hero brawl, and would have if Jim's character, Enigma, hadn't intervened.

Which is a good thing, since Linus might have gone for Harry's throat.

Of course, it's nasty, and I can honestly say I never thought I'd ever play a character who would use urine as a tool. But, I've had dogs most of my life. And, when they're unhappy, they pee where they know they oughtn't.

Long ago, in a Champions game : The Beastmaster. His ability allowed him to capture magical creatures from his home dimension into tatoos and summon them to fight on his behalf. a pokemon master-like character.

Also Nephilim : in this game you play spirit beings (Nephilim) who (re)incarnate into humans again and again. This character was incarnated into a housecat.

And in world inspired from Xanth : a tailor whose power was to animate clothes.

In 7th Sea (aged to the 1940's, a pulp style game) - I played Dr. Simon Hatherly who was a meek but smart data analyst for MI-6 but also hypnotically triggered super-spy, weapons expert, and all-around bada$$, Samuel Wraith. (Concept based on Christian Slater's character in My Own Worst Enemy). The GM (and eventually other players) controlled when I shifted.

In oWoD, Werewolf the Apocalypse I play an Uktena Theurge with multiple souls trapped in his body that occasionally manifest as dominant controlling personality.

In M&M some of my more exotic characters have been:
* a hyper-intelligent mouse in a dog-shaped assault vehicle
* a suit of high-tech flight armor - not a guy in armor, just the armor. Other PCs could wear me and I had a bunch of Affects Other Only powers and several levels of interpose.

Several other good ones too. I'm a fan of off-the-wall.

I once played an aasimar cleric possessed by a redeemed balor (personality of American McGee's Alice) in a 3.5 D&D game.
