Re: Jab’s Builds! (Oni! Pupa & Pepe! Abubo! Johann! Mario Builds!)

I've got to admit, I'm just an old-schooler, but to me, my favorite Mario games will always be a tie between Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World, followed shortly after by Super Mario RPG. I've played some of the newer Mario games, but the old school ones will always be number one for me. Now that I...

Superman vs the Elite - Review by SFDebris

Not sure if anyone else here follows him, but there's a reviewer of science fiction that goes by SFDebris. He recently reviewed the animated adaptation of Superman vs the Elite, which can be viewed here.

I enjoyed it immensely, and recommend anyone who enjoys a critical review to check it out.

Re: Marvel bows to poltical correctness and censors celebrated writer.

Okay folks, this topic has gotten to the point where anything resembling a reasonable debate as died. You're both trying to insult each other without directly insulting each other, so this is going to stop. The thread is locked and if I see any iteration of this argument continue outside of the thr...

Re: Marvel bows to poltical correctness and censors celebrated writer.

I figured the subject matter and debate potential warranted it's own topic separate from the general Marvel/DC news, so here you go.

Re: Jab's Rifts Builds (Dragon Ray! Zomba! Stidjron! Underseas Gear!)

It sounds like these guys are suppose to be more of a "ROLEplaying" class where you play a charismatic type who supports other heroes, but for the life of me I can't imagine why you'd play that in a game like RIFTS. I mean, if you want to play the smooth talker, con-man, fixer or what have...

Re: The Boys

It's a result of the medium I suspect. The more sexually explicit stuff poodle mentioned probably wouldn't make it past Amazon's filter. If they are indicative of other events in the comic it makes sense why it's not a straight up adaptation. Yeah, the comic was essentially Ennis making very shallo...

Re: J-Mart: Invincible, Reanimen

I kinda liked how they found ways to keep re-using the Reanimen concept as time went on- one of the few things that wasn't totally swept under the rug. Yeah, it was pretty clever when they started using the remains of the dead Invincibles from that one invasion of evil Invincibles storyline as a wa...

Re: The Boys

I wouldn't describe it as juvenile and it did get rid of some horrible scenes. I'd describe most Garth Ennis written stuff as fairly juvenile, whereas this series seems to be playing things straight. The comic reads like some dark superhero parody, whereas this feels more like a deconstruction you ...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

Yeah, Perpetua is not a good name for someone who is supposedly a cosmic titan that creates multiverses. It somehow sounds worse than names like "Eternity", "The Living Tribunal" and "The Anti-Monitor". Morrison was a very hit or miss Justice League writer, but his good...

Re: The Boys

Credit where credit is due, everything I've read about the show on TV Tropes indicates that it is, in fact, a big step up from the comic. Much in the same way the Netflix Daredevil show made the rooftop scene between Matt and Frank much better than the Ennis written comic, this show is apparently a ...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

It also doesn't help that this is clearly building towards DC's next big crisis. I remember as far back as 2005 DC actually had a handle on this whole "branding" concept where books would be allowed to do their own thing, but would have tie-in-issues specifically to lead up to events, or ...

Re: Jab’s Builds! (Rebecca! Duke! Koga Shuko! Double Dragon V!)

These re-designs of Billy and Jimmy are based off of the Double Dragon animated series. In that show, the pilot episode was a quasi-faithful adaptation of the game (including Abobo and Willy) , but had Billy and Jimmy separated at birth, one raised by a good, wise martial arts master, the other by t...

Re: "Guardians" Russian Superhero Flick

I bought this when it came out on DVD a while back, and I thought it was an okay low-budget superhero film. It's always interesting to see how other countries play with the superhero formula, and this wasn't bad. Not fantastic, but not bad either. I'd say the worst aspects were the special effects, ...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

I checked it out, and those two issues along with the wedding of Ben and Alicia have me seriously considering picking up this book regularly. At the very least, Slott "gets" Ben and Alicia. Spoilers . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . What's funny is that it's fairly close to what I said I'd d...
