The Xanth books work best if you're not fully an adult, yet. That and the older Xanth books are clearly written for a more adult audience than the later ones, which are progressively more Young Adult-aimed. A Spell for Chameleon has a muuuuch more adult tone than, say, Ogre, Ogre , let alone later ...
