Re: Jab's Builds! (Ultra Boy! Sun Boy! Shrinking Violet! Lightning Lad!)

Yeah, "Big Head" guys in comics almost always look foolish-Sinestro didn't take off as a villain until that elongated forehead depiction got toned way down, and the Leader only got some cred after Peter David altered ole Sam Sterns appearance into something more monstrous. By the bye-from what littl...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Invisible Kids! Ultra Boy! Sun Boy! Shrinking Violet!)

It dawns on me that Chemical King could stop almost any vehicle. What happens when the fuel in one's rocket stops burning? Or, more horribly, burns so fast that the rocket explodes. Chemical batteries suddenly stop holding a charge. Chemical King wasn't so much useless, as the writers didn't unders...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Invisible Kids! Ultra Boy! Sun Boy! Shrinking Violet!)

I keep thinking about how I'd handle some of the Legionnaires if I was writing a revived title, especially as it comes to a few of the members with redundant or seemingly superfluous abilities. Blok: Aside from super-strength and durability, have him be more of an energy-reflector, which was the big...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Shadow Lass! Tyroc! Invisible Kids! Ultra Boy!)

Ugh...Mordru and Time Trapper, otherwise known as "Doesn't-Fit-the-Series-Tone/Ruined-Amethyst and Gemworld-Forever! Lad" and "Most-Confusing-Character History-Ever-Kid"; I don't envy you. (And yes, I realize with respect to Mordru, AKA Game-Breaker, the LSH did feature characters with "mystic" orig...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Shadow Lass! Tyroc! Invisible Kids! Ultra Boy!)

Re your build of Ultra-Boy: I think depending on how much a stickler you are for RAW, the "Ultra-STR" slot of the Array could forego the "Ground Pound" Affliction effect, which could either just be a power stunt or its own alternate slot, just as you separated "Ultra-Speed" and "Ultra-Quickness". I ...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Havok! LOSH- Chameleon Boy! Dream Girl! Star Boy!)

Yeah, there are very few exceptions to the whole Giant-Sized team member gets used a over-sized punching dummy trope...though Colossal Boy usually fared pretty well actually, because every once in awhile the LSH writers didn't want to do another story with Superboy, Supergirl, or Mon-El Ultra Boy wa...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Havok! LOSH- Chameleon Boy! Dream Girl! Star Boy!)

Odd how the X-Men keep coming up in reference to the most popular LSH designs and characters-mainly because Dave Cockrum revamped or introduced both many of the latter day Legionnaires AND the original New X-men; heck, Nightcrawler came directly out of a proposed LSH tie-in title which never came to...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Havok! LOSH- Chameleon Boy! Dream Girl! Star Boy!)

There’s also the issue of the JSA line-up at the time containing multiple medical doctors (Doctor Fate, Doc Mid-Nite, Mr. Terrific, Hourman) and four folks with the Wisdom of Solomon, and they were headquartered in Gotham City (so presumably had an easy time contacting the Batman if needed). All of...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Havok! Legion of Super-Heroes! Chameleon Boy!)

I also hated the "crazy Star Man" from the JSA as well. Why writers think those kinds of guys are a good idea, I'll never know. It's also galling because they had a far better and more accurate depiction of a mentally-ill character at the same time with Cyclone and her more manic-depressive tendenc...

Re: Hellcat

Most recently, Marvel's big "Diversity/Female Character" push led to a very indie-style, humorous Patsy-related book, showing her starting a job agency for super-powered folk. It's VERY emblematic of "this era" of Marvel's comics, in that it's designed to be non-superheroic, non-costumed, non-serio...

Re: Black Panther Movie

In fairness to Chris Brady, continuity wasn't exactly a big thing for DC during the Silver Age or even the early Bronze Age of comics-there well may have been a story or two he read (from reprints, digests, back-issue bins or what have you) that shows Paradise Island just as he remembers; this was e...

Re: Thought Experiment: You're put in charge of the next company wide reboot. What do you do?

1) Firing may be extreme, but so far at Marvel we have: Gladiator of the Imperial Guard (along with Xenith= Supergirl, and Kid Gladiator = Superboy), at least THREE active iterations of Hyperion (the one intro'ed by Johnathan Hicks, the King Hyperion from the Exiles, and the microverse Hyperion) alo...

The estimable Prodigyduck actually included a Hellcow analogue as part of his Super-Power-Legends universe:

Re: World of Freedom 3.2 - Hero High Revised! Blasphemy Beyond Imagination! South Korea's Mekaforce!

Apologies for the belated response, but I managed to sprain two fingers on my hand while rather foolishly demonstrating my push up prowess a couple weeks ago. To address the question-Ms. Wainwright's write-ups in previous FC editions didn't address her physicality, aside from the age and trademark ...

Re: World of Freedom 3.2 - Hero High Revised! Blasphemy Beyond Imagination! South Korea's Mekaforce!

Kind of a Skinny Waller situation? I suspect that crusader's Wainwright isn't Caucasian. Her descriptions in the first two editions left her ethnicity ambiguous, and if she's an ersatz Waller ...
