Re: Jab's Builds! (Tai Cheetah, Foxy Roxy, Dali Llama! Luke Cage!)

Yeah, it just seems odd how so many Cage villains from the 1970s just somehow have minor super-strength, enough to hang with Luke back in the early days of his career. No explanation given at ALL-Big Ben Donovan, Cottonmouth, Mangler, Boris....like, shouldn't these guys either have had origins for t...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

Yeah, my build of the character made many of the same points- it captured a very solid character from a community you don't see very often in comics, and did it in a way that felt REAL- not flawless, not idealized, but REAL. Kamala was given a BIT of validation by other, established heroes, but it ...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Tai Cheetah, Foxy Roxy, Dali Llama! Luke Cage!)

Why didn't they just have Bushmaster's son acquire powers, instead of doing the weird resurrection via draining his own child's life-force thing, I wonder? And then they killed him all over again in the same story. Seems pointless. Man, Cage has AWFUL villains for most of his solo run. Thank goodnes...

What story is that from? I like it a lot.

Re: Jab's Builds! (Tai Cheetah, Foxy Roxy, Dali Llama! Luke Cage!)

Honestly? Given how slipshod Marvel is about continuity these days-and OK, a villain coming back from seeming death isn't quite the same, but you know the writer/editor just forgot the first Diamondback was long dead-I'd just assume it was an impostor. Especially with the acquired without explanatio...

Re: World of Freedom 3.2 - The Sentinels (updated)! Meta-4! The Algernon Files

I realize it's a coincidence, but I'm struck by the similarities in the origins and powers of Onyx and my Russian villain Eminence, who got covered a bit in this thread earlier. Could be a future plot hook. Your work is really quite good, and while I love seeing it pop up, obviously take whatever ti...

Re: Batgirl III's Character Thread (Rosa Klebb)

The Spy Who Loved Me is my favorite Bond novel, solely for personal reasons. It’s got the least amount of Bond in it, is very different in tone and style from everything else in the series, and is just generally very out of place in the series. But, well, I was an eleven year old girl in the beginn...

Kind of like Doomsday Clock; impressive creative talent, really, really bad concept being executed.

Re: Batgirl III's Character Thread (Rosa Klebb)

The Bond novels/character present a few... issues , I suppose, to modern readers. Aside from the debauchery and substance abuse, chauvinism, and casual racism, J.B. engages in at least one instance of date rape against Pussy Galore (arguably so in the movie version, where Pussy Galore's lesbianism i...

Re: Jab's Builds! (TESS-One! Terminus! Terror! THUNDRA!)

I've always liked Thundra, since she's a goofball, early Bronze-Age, "social relevance" character-but usually a lot of FUN in the hands of Marvel writers. Yeah, she could work on an Avengers team, if the writer(s) would play up the silliness a bit, maybe playing her off against someone like Hercules...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Threnody! TESS-One! Terminus! Terror!)

Just realized Schreck/Terror Inc seems AWFULLY similar to "The Creeper" from the horror films, AND he debuted a LOT earlier. Oddly, Schreck looks pretty frightening and intimidating on the covers, but like a guy in a goofy rubber halloween mask in the interior artwork. Wasn't the character also part...

Re: World of Freedom 3.2 Setting Detail

Does Dracula somehow have the three under his sway? Unlikely, given their nature, but curious because traditionally Vlad has three "brides". Given all three are more powerful than he is, and have either powerful patrons (Oblivion Knight) and/or friends and family (Ultimaid), the old vampire may have...

Re: Jab's Builds! (The Toad! T-Ray! Thundersword! Tuatara! Topaz!)

I was at the Chicago WIzardCon where the announcements were made for those female centric titles- Witches Three, AKA Charmed, Bloodstone the Monster Hunter, alias Buffy the Vampire Slayer , and a Dark Angel rip-off whose name and title character I would have to research which I don't really care to...

Re: Jab's Builds! (The Toad! T-Ray! Thundersword! Tuatara! Topaz!)

And that should have been Buffy the Vampire Slayer, of course. Yeah, I vaguely remember that other book too. I'm not sure Marvel understood the difference between capitalizing on a trend vs. put out shoddy imitation material for a cash grab.
