Re: Harlan Ellison

“Harlan is a giant among men in courage, pugnacity, loquacity, wit, charm, intelligence — indeed in everything but height.” — Isaac Asimov in the introduction to Dangerous Visions (1967) I believe that the height jokes started in one of the early sci-fi conventions. At the time Asimov was one of ne...

Re: Thank you RL.

She got her first surgery today, now she's wearing an Ilizarov apparatus. As soon as she gets better they're going to put a metal plate and two pins in he left ankle. Don't mind me being nosey here, but how in the Wide World Of Sports did she break them bad enough to need a goram Metal Plate ? :shoc...

Thank you RL.

Hi everyone,
This is just a quick update. I know that my posting so far wasn't exactly one of the main features of the site. Unfortunately my mom had an accident last week and she broke both ankles. This is, of course, taking its toll on my free time. :( :?

Finding attractive women attractive is thoughtcrime. Finding unattractive women unattractive is thoughtcrime. Finding attractive women unattractive is misogynistic thoughtcrime, unless you're gay. Finding unattractive women attractive is objectification which is thoughtcrime. Claiming a woman is ne...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

Know what this reminds me of? That Spiderwoman cover debacle a few years ago. Man was THAT insane. I had a girl I knew and had worked with lose her shit on me for not seeing any problem with the cover. I mean just LOST her shit. I'd explain my POV and there'd be accusations that I was being condesc...

Re: Warhammer 40,000 (Fire Dragons)

Mini-Rant: All of the Eldar Aspect Warriors are incredibly specialized, but probably none more so than the Fire Dragons. On the plus side, a gun that can kill the heaviest of tanks is equally capable of killing infantry. I've always wondered why they don't have a flamer-type weapon as an available ...

Re: Jab's Rifts Builds (Dragon & Splugorth Juicers! Burster! Mind Melter! Crazy!)

The Crazy is an interesting concept, but hoo-boy does it depend heavily on having a decent player who won’t quickly devolve into a “LOLZ! I am so wacky!” annoyance. My suggestion? The GM should choose the psychological illness(es) himself, with some input from the player as to what they’d be comfor...

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/f/f4/Uncanny_X-Men_Vol_1_168_001.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080505083405 I have a hazy memory of Kitty and Piotr having a heart to heart conversation on Breakworld where Kitty specifically says her age. I can’t find any scans of that panel onl...

Re: Modern Comics & Relationships Between Heroes

Well, during Acts of Vengeage the Mandarin considered adding Jubilee and Pstlocke to his harem and the overall logic was "They are Asian and have powers" :| Well, it’s not like the Mandarin’s interest in them was being presented as a case of true love. Horny old man has a thing for superpowered Asi...

Re: Warehouse W - Bonelli Comics: Tex, Carson, Tiger Jack, Mephisto, Yama

Very cool bio again, Woodclaw. Sounds to me like this character has a particularly bad case of "Overshadowed by his debut" syndrome, where no follow-up story can match the quality of his debut. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of him, especially if he actually teams up with his father. I'm ...

Re: Castellia- A Fantasy Setting (Fairies! Kender! Skum! Slaad- Red & Blue!)

The slaadi were created by Charles Stross for a series White Dwarf magazine articles which were eventually collected as the TSR book Fiend Folio (1981). Stross has admitted he was running a fever when he created them. I can totally see that. I understand that TSR wanted something of a counter...

They had one long before that Blonde Douchbag was even an idea.He went by the name Hyperion and he was a member of an Alternate Earth's Hero Team called The Squadron Supreme ,so there wasn't even a Need for the guy... The problem is that Hyperion was, still, Superman in terms of personality: a posi...

Re: Modern Comics & Relationships Between Heroes

Did anyone — anyone at all — really believe that T’Challa and Ororo became a couple for any reason other than being Marvel Comics’ two most prominent Black characters? Might as well have had Silver Samurai marry Jubilee. They met once! They’re both Asian! It’s true love! Well, during Acts of Vengea...
