Re: The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Lindsay Ellis has a really good video essay about the movie, and the adaptations that have followed Victor Hugo's work for years. His original story is very grim, and VERY inappropriate for Disney, which right away should have been a warning sign. In the original, Esmeralda isn't actually a Gyspy- ...

Re: Roxanne

About the Performer: I have no idea who Kellie Martin is, and have never seen any of her stuff. She played a lot of minor roles in the '80s, I guess, and even got her own series in 1994, called Christy (??). She was on ER for a couple of years, but her career has mostly been bit parts and, currentl...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Beauty and the Beast! Belle! The Beast!)

Annoyingly, they've never given him a real name, even in post-film stories like the Descendants. Head canon? Jean, after Cocteau. Or possibly Robert, after Mr. Benson.

Thank you! Still engaged in that other project, which leaves me with no time to put together character builds and backgrounds, unfortunately.

THE FOX AND THE HOUND (1981):
Written by:
Daniel P. Mannix (original novel), Ted Berman, Larry Clemmons, David Michener, Peter Young & Burny Mattinson
Either this or an early 80s re-release of Song of the South was the first Disney movie I ever saw in the theatre.

Re: Jab's Builds! (Baloo! Shere Khan! Kaa! Robin Hood! The Sheriff!)

I'm fairly sure that Disney's Prince John is intended to reference the portrayal of him in the play and later film The Lion in Winter.

Re: Doc Savage

This is the 2e build for Doc that I came up with more than a decade ago. I see a lot of things I would do differently today, but the skeleton would be much the same, I think.

Re: Batgirl III's Character Thread (Largo)

The name Largo, though not much else, was also used for a major villain in the 1980s anime Bubblegum Crisis, one of a couple of James Bond references therein.

Re: Batgirl III's Character Thread (Pussy Galore)

Or you could just watch Sneakers (1992) which manages to be neither Martini Flavored nor Stale Beer while still being very much a story about spies and spying.

Re: Delvers

-Delvers debuted in 3rd Edition, so don't have the justification for "WTF?" like other Abberations do- they're just a bizarre mish-mash of traits with an appearance that makes no sense (what's with the giant lips in front, and the top-mouth thing?). They're distinctly odd enough that this becomes t...

Under the Hood
Hyperboreans and vril I totally stole from Hellboy, although I think Mike Mignola got those from Madame Blavatsky or some other theosophist.
Not quite, vril was the invention of author Edward Bulwer-Lytton, who died before theosophy really got going.

Re: World of Freedom 3.2 - The Sentinels (updated)! Meta-4! The Algernon Files

Okay, as you may have noticed I'm not exactly putting these out as quickly as I'd like, and I'm thinking that once I get done the last three in this series I'm going to be taking a sabbatical away from this thread to work on some other stuff. I'll still be updating the setting thread every month or ...
