Re: Captain Marvel MCU

Said by idiots who view politics as a struggle between virtuous and noble communists - consisting of women, people who are racial minorities in America, and their willing vassals - and the vile White Male Fascists. Ahem. https://am23.akamaized.net/tms/cnt/uploads/2018/06/captainamerica-punches-hitl...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Mega Man 11! Triumph! The Ray! The Punisher!)

I think this ties in with one of the biggest problems with most superhero comics: being open-ended. On one hand it makes perfect sense from a narrator perspective not to reinvent the wheel every time by creating a new "main villain" every time, so it stand to reason that the main character doesn't ...

Re: Gene Therapy vs Sickle Cell Anemia

It's definitely got potential for abuse, but that just makes it like any other emerging technology. It'll require a lot of testing (for instance, to make sure the children people treated in this manner don't pass on some new kind of genetic abnormality to their children), and it'll require laws to p...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Mega Man 11! Triumph! The Ray! The Punisher!)

If 'Nam was brought into the Marvel Universe proper, it was definitely a retroactive decision. There was an issue where the soldiers were talking about how easy the war would be if Capt. America, Iron Man and Thor were real and were fighting. We get three imagine spots where the trio of heroes do ma...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Mega Man 11! Triumph! The Ray! The Punisher!)

I've said this before when it comes to Codes Against Killing, but they're something I feel is pretty vital to the superhero genre as a whole. I definitely understand it from a marketing and storytelling perspective, because if Dr. Doom died in the first story, well, we'd have missed out on some grea...

Re: Captain Marvel MCU

Watching the build up for the Captain Marvel film reminds me a great deal of the build up for Ghostbusters 2016 and The Last Jedi. You've got the same mix of people where on one side you've got people trolling the easily offended and the legitimate sexist/racist/homophobes who can't articulate an ar...

Gene Therapy vs Sickle Cell Anemia

I saw a 60 Minutes episode on Could Gene Therapy Cure Sickle Cell Anemia , and thought "This is the kind of science I love", the kind of thing that seems like science fiction brought to life. Essentially, there are certain genetic diseases that scientists know are caused basically by one "flipped" s...

New Forum, Same Rules

Just a heads up about this new part of the forum. I figured we needed a space to talk about news stories, current events and the like, something that might get lost in the General Chat area. While we all come here 99% of the time for RPG talk, I'm curious to see if we can't mix in some other topics ...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Pyro! Professor Xavier! Paradox! Proteus! Paladin!)

Funnily enough, I think Paladin would fit better if he was named Maverick, but well, that name was taken. Then again, Maverick became Agent Zero, so.. It would honestly fit, since Maverick was more of a professional merc from what I remember. I'll admit I always kind of liked Maverick's design and ...

Fun ideas, Ares. I usually find your ideas more interesting than what is actually being produced.

Re: Jab’s Builds (Pyro! Professor Xavier! Paradox! Proteus! Paladin!)

In either case, though, the name doesn't really fit, no matter who you interpret the term "paladin." It could have been used for a much different character. I would imagine Ares agrees with me on this point. You'd be 100% right. Much as I think Paladin is an entertaining, morally ambiguous jackass ...

Re: Captain Marvel trailer(original Captain Marvel)

As you noted it seems like Freddy is acting more like Billy than Billy is. True about that element, in fact you could easily explain the whole mouthy sarcasm-aspect as a orphan-related coping mechanism. That was the excuse Geoff Johns gave in the Curse of Shazam series the movie is based off of: th...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Polaris! Pyro! Post! Professor Xavier!)

Proteus is a good example of a couple of things, first and foremost being why you shouldn't re-visit a concept too often, as the character's menace got diluted the more he was used. It likely would have been better to have people try to re-create Proteus' power than constantly bringing the guy back....

Re: DC Comics - Heroes in Crisis & Doomsday Clock = Why so serious?

The idea that Dr. Manhattan is somehow a threat rivaling Darkseid or the Anti-Monitor is just weird to me. In his own setting, Manhattan basically only came off as a godlike because he was the only superpowered guy on the planet. They even admitted he couldn't stop all of the nukes that could be la...

Re: Captain Marvel trailer(original Captain Marvel)

There's a lot of things wrong with the trailer, but the most obvious one I find myself asking is this: why didn't the Wizard pick FREDDY to wield his power? Freddy is the one who actually knows about superheroing, Freddy is the one showing actual concern for people, Freddy is by far shown to be the ...
