Re: The Great Mouse Detective

"Sherlock the Brilliant Asshole" seems to be a recurring element of the character throughout fiction, being more pronounced as our society appreciates Asshole Heroes all the more with each passing generation. A trend I absolutely despise since it basically encourages people to act like assholes whi...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Black Cauldron! Tron! Great Mouse Detective! Ratigan!)

The most annoying thing about TRON was it convinced so many people to this day netspace/the cloud/whatever is somehow another freaking dimension. Which makes no more sense than people thinking there's another dimension associated with printers or cable TVs or arcade games (yeah, Wreck It Ralph , bu...

Re: The Great Mouse Detective

His best moment is when Basil calls him a "Sewer Rat" while Ratigan is smirking and holding a watch, and Ratigan just stops dead, holds the smile while his eyes narrow, and SNAPS the watch's lid shut without moving any other part of his body. Neat little character work there. http://gifimage.net/wp...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Prince John! The Rescuers! Tod & Copper! Black Cauldron!)

I've always wondered if the name Basil was a reference to Basil Rathbone who played Sherlock in film and on the radio in the 1940's. I'm pretty confidant the "Watson is a bumbling idiot" idea in popular culture is due to the character's portrayal in that same series by Nigel Bruce ... who looks sur...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Robin Hood! The Sheriff! Prince John! The Rescuers!)

I remember Batgirl III being annoyed that Princess Eilonwy never gets to be in "Disney Princess" group pics. I had to tell her that Disney's pretty strict on that- even the Frozen sisters aren't technically members (though of course they're in Wreck It Ralph 2 , and ain't THAT gonna piss people off...

Re: Question about a Strength Feat

I'm not asking how to replicate the feat mechanically. There's nothing there that can't really be covered with Extra Effort, a Hero Point or a decent dice roll. My question is more where people would peg the characters strength rating based on said feat, or what kind of heroes they'd feel would have...

Question about a Strength Feat

Wanted to get an idea where everyone would place a strength feat, either in Mutants and Masterminds terms or in a general superhero comic/film/tv series comparison. This comes from a Kamen Rider TV film, so the budget isn't huge and you need to use your imagination. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Robin Hood! The Sheriff! Prince John! The Rescuers!)

The Black Cauldron is interesting to me, because I've only watched it a couple of times, while The Chronicles of Prydain where books I read more of as a younger kid. It's actually kind of interesting, because those books are kind of a deconstruction of a lot of fantasy tropes. Very little magic is u...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

A minor note, but I'm still annoyed at the last thing I read regarding Wonder Woman and Donna Troy. Up until 2011, Diana's origin was that she had been molded from clay and given life by the gods, but she was still considered a human being, just one with a very Greek Myth inspired origin. While you ...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

So over on RPG.net, Kreuzritter recently completed a Where I Read thread, namely "Where I Read "The Death and Return of Superman" . First and foremost, give it a read, it's very entertaining. Secondly, and this more personal to me, it makes me wish Roger Stern had gotten a chance to write Captain Ma...
