Re: Jab’s Builds! (Roxy Rocket! Batgirl! Ra's al-Ghul! Batman Beyond!)

Inque was definitely the most memorable of Terry's villains for me; just the simple spin of making her living INK instead of just being elastic or mimicking water or the like. And she was fairly distinct visually as well. Blight really SHOULD have made more of an impression, but...his only motivatio...

Re: Jab’s Builds! (Roxy Rocket! Batgirl! Ra's al-Ghul! Batman Beyond!)

Some series just suffer in comparison; Batman Beyond is a well above average show (owing to the strength of the source material) which just pales next to B:TAS and even against JLU. Those cartoons did SO many things right-they turned otherwise rather silly or forgettable villains into memorable char...

Re: Jab’s Builds! (Foom! Fantomex! Faiza Hussein! Forge!)

Geez, I remember that mini-series,and I likely still have it lying around in a long box somewhere in storage...not a bad concept at all, though the books meandered a bit, and unfortunately having SO many characters meant not one of them got any real attention or character development. There were a c...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

I instead imagine the graphic novels, the YA tie-on, and collected editions sold well, with the comic being a loss-leader. Digital copies likely also made up some of the slack, since the target audience was young teen/tween girls, who are more into reading on devices than going into comic shops. I'm...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

Eh, apparently the title lasted nearly five years, along with an original graphic novel AND a YA tie-in novel. That is not at all a bad run, so it clearly appealed to the demographic.

That said, the above panels are...yeah, the book wasn't for me.

All my best.

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

Heroes in Crisis and Doomsday Clock should both be consigned to Elseworlds status at best; I wouldn't mind if neither were ever finished. There is real talent on those series, but it's being wasted on two horribly conceived stories. Tom King's early run on Batman was pretty solid, though I don't thi...

Re: Crossgen Comics - Anyone remember them?

Enjoyed quite a few of them actually, though I really only read a couple for more than a story arc apiece. Ron Marz recently talked (in the BAMF Podcast) about how proud he was of the CrossGen works, and still sad about how the company ended. And of course, Mark Alessi, the founder, died of a massiv...

Re: Avengers End Game

To my knowledge, the Avengers franchise will be dormant for some time. The success or failure of any future films are difficult to predict, so its unclear if Shang-Chi, Nova (another planned film with a male lead), or even future Dr. Strange or Ant-Man/Giant Man movies will grow into "mainline" heroe...

Re: Avengers End Game

Chris Evans and RDJ chose not to renew their contracts; that's the reason they were written out; Scarlet Johannsen is signed for at least one Black Widow solo movie, so I scarcely think Marvel is writing the character out to avoid "sex appeal", especially as Zoe Saldana will continue on as Gamora (t...

Re: Avengers End Game

When will it be considered appropriate to openly discuss the film? I know the internet review "ban" on spoilers is over, but I don't wish to spoil anyone's enjoyment.

All my best.

Re: Galactus vs Ganthet!

Galacatus is more than a match for Ganthet IF the World-Eater is at full power; the problem for Galactus is his power reserves have repeatedly been shown to be depleted rapidly when facing other cosmic beings. Still, no ordinary Guardian would last more than a few moments-but Ganthet wields two ener...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Madrox! Marada! Maelstrom! Maggott! Mystique!)

Unus' strength got ignored in modern day stories. But yes, according to the few SA X-Men comics I inherited from my father, he is/was strong as the Beast, prior to his transformation into hirsute, ape-man form.

Re: Jab’s Builds (Madcap! Mimic! Man-Killer! Mr. Jip! Jamie Madrox!)

Did the writers ever explain the guy having super-strength (albeit at a low level)? I mean from your build, Michah Synn is stronger than Captain America- he can lift over 1500 lbs! Then again, the Kingpin somehow used to fight Spider-Man on an even basis and shrugged off having a fricking building d...

Re: Avengers End Game

Overall I very much enjoyed it, but definitely opens up some major issues with the continuity due to all the "messing with reality" stuff. And leaves the CMU in an odd place going forward, depending on how much the writers actually deal with rather than paper over. No real emotional payoff for the H...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Morgan Le Fay! Madelyne Pryor! Midnight Sun! Machine Teen!)

Kirby's later Marvel work was...hell, it just wasn't good. I mean, it wasn't as if "The King" hadn't phoned stuff in before (in terms of ideas-his artwork was always his artwork, until impaired by age and infirmity), but there is a clear distinction between material Kirby was genuinely excited to cr...
