Re: Jab's Builds! (Thunder! Brainiac 5! White Witch! Kinetix! Supergirl!)

Nicieza isn't always bad, I enjoyed his work on the Justice League: Midsummer Nightmare mini-series (which reunited the "Big Seven" to set up Morrison's epic JLA run), his run on Thunderbolts , and of course his run on New Warriors at the start of that team's existence. But, well, the during the he...

I swear that all I can think looking at Express is Tracer ... I really need to lay off Overwatch for a while.

Re: Jab's Builds! (Thunder! Brainiac 5! White Witch! Kinetix! Supergirl!)

Anarky -- note the "Xtreme Kool Letterz" trope guys -- was actually a very interesting character in his initial debut story, Detective Comics (Vol 1) #608-609. He was a pretty basic 'serial killer with a theme' that we'd seen plenty of times in the Bronze Age Detective Comics , but it was interesti...

Re: Castellia- A Fantasy Setting (Genies! Achairai! Arrowhawks! Hags!)

Old women, especially very old women who live on their own away from the village and without family, tend to Know Things™️. In a way, Discworld’s Granny Weatherwax might be one of the most realistic depictions of “the old hag” in fiction. She’s a powerful spellcaster, but she mostly gets her way th...

Re: Your first "Cartoon crush"

Oh God, that Legend of Zelda cartoon. Danny of the Game Grumps summed it up perfectly: "Imagine taking this silent protagonist, a hero of two games who saved the world from evil, and when given the opportunity to give him a voice, you make him sound like the most douchey, dude-bro character imagina...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Substitute Heroes! Thunder! Brainiac 5! White Witch!)

As far as the Maxima legacy goes;the character could still be a direct decendant, just not have the same powers. The whole of Maxima’s society revolves around breeding and genetically engineering the “perfect” scion of the Blood Royal. Hence, Maxima’s desire to knock mismatched boots with Kal-El. It...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Substitute Heroes! Thunder! Brainiac 5! White Witch!

What I could never figure out, is that if you wanted to add a cute redhead telekinetic to the team, why not use one of DC’s already established characters as a basis: Maxima of Almerac? Okay, maybe you don’t want to add another Kryptonian-class flying brick to the team. So don’t go the direct heir ...

Re: Jab's Builds! (The Legion of Substitute Heroes! Thunder! Brainiac 5!)

I like the idea of magic in a superhero setting, I hate the application of magic in more superhero stories. Far too often, the writers use the presence of a magic-user in the book to allow for insanely complex no-win scenarios to take a half-dozen issues to set up and then get resolved in the last ...

The junk teachers gave you when they had something going on in their personal life and just didn't have time for a leason plan? That's sortof what i ...

Re: Jab's Builds! (The Legion of Substitute Heroes! Thunder! Brainiac 5!)

Donald P. Bellisario, legendary producer of pretty much everything on television between 1970-1999, once said in response to a fan with very pedantic questions about the way things worked on Quantum Leap replied: “Don’t examine this too closely.” I find this an acceptable explanation for why Reed R...

One of the first that comes to mind is Chrono Trigger, which had such time-travelling mess-up that even as an adult it took me a bit to wrap my head around it.

Re: Builds on the Sun (Airships)

Back in the days of the ATT I did some ship-building of my own and I came up with a "reverse autofire" rule for saturation weapons. Pretty much it meant that characters in a saturation area weapon suffered +1 damage for every 2 points they failed the Reflex Save, up to +5.

Re: J-Mart: LADIES NIGHT! Warrior Woman, Sin, Power Princess

I'm really partial to Gruenwald's 1985 Squadron Supreme characters. The various alternate versions from 2003 onward never really clicked with me.
