Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

As to the Squirrel Girl and Wasp books...comics NEED to appeal to all sorts of demographics if they're going to continue as an industry; so books targeting teen/tween girls are nothing to discourage. And I actually read a few issues of the "Unstoppable" Wasp's first series, and they weren't bad-not...

Re: Seth Skorkowsky's YouTube Channel

heh we got refresher of that in the New Mythos via rerun fo the MFing Scott Brown incident :D I'm so stealing that whole "Scott Brown Mother F****ER!" bit for my own games at some point. Like, I'm picturing using it in a supers game where every Scott Brown employee either has superpowers or SHIELD ...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

So in recent comic book news: People are finally admitting that the comic industry is in trouble due to store closure and low sales. The first step to fixing a problem is acknowledging it exists, so perhaps there's some hope. Tom King is thankfully being removed from Batman. Now if only they'd retco...

Live Action Dungeon and Dragons to hit TV in an unexpected way . . .

Namely, as part of a series of car commercials in Brazil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF51vmLli14 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuoIY1NIEkQ More commercials are on the way. From what I understand, the old 80s D&D cartoon was a huge hit in Brazil, to the point they kept re-running over and over...

To be fair, T-Shirt and Jeans Superboy spends half his time sulking anyway.

Re: The Living Tribunal

-Which is why it was so shocking to see it KILLED BY THE BEYONDERS in the end of Jon Hickman's insane Avengers run. The Beyonders, hailing from outside the Multiverse, assault all of Marvel's Cosmics, slaughtering them one by one, ending with the Living Tribunal. This probably irked me more than an...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Order & Chaos! In-Betweener! Eternity! Death!)

Of course, everyone else realized how stupid this was, so it was immediately retconned into Hydra Cap being the fake once Spencer was done. How did that happen? I was pretty sure I read all the relevant issues of this, but when does it come out that good Steve Rogers is the "real" Cap? It was my un...

Re: D’Spayre

-D'Spayre was the cooler half of a recurring duo in the comics of the '90s, alongside Nightmare. They tended to manipulate heroes in tandem, but initially, D'Spayre was a solo act, fighting The Giant-Size Man-Thing (hee hee) and Spider-Man. It was a pretty cool story, with D'Spayre repeatedly tortu...

Re: Worldbuilding question

Right. Hercules and Gilgamesh were both legitimate superpowered types, but whether that was due to being actual demigods, superpowers being triggered by magic, being early mutants, or their divine parentage being what triggered their powers, is up to you and whether magic is a thing in your setting ...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Order & Chaos! In-Betweener! Eternity! Death!)

I'm definitely someone who will stick up for Secret Wars I, and for a real fun time, check out the Graphic Audio audiobook. It actually fixes some of the story issues and is a fun listen. The Beyonder is a great concept, and the idea of a godlike being trying to understand humanity isn't a bad one. ...

Re: Worldbuilding question

One idea is that superpowers have always been around in some form or another, we just didn't get proper superheroes until the 20th century. A basic notion with most superpowers is that they need some kind of trigger. Until the 20th century, science wasn't advanced enough to provide such a trigger, s...

Re: Jab’s Builds (Order & Chaos! In-Betweener! Eternity! Death!)

The idea of the Cube being used to make Cap evil would have been simple enough, but that's not what happened. Nick Spencer made it clear that what really happened was that Cap was always and a HYDRA Agent. Originally the Axis forces were going to win WWII because of Steve, so instead of creating the...
