Re: Jab's Builds! (Zarya! D.Va! Mercy! Junkrat! Roadhog! THE THICCNESS!)

Alright, since we're doing the Post Your Overwaifu thing: 1) Mercy. Blondes aren't usually my Thing, but there's something just so sweet about Mercy, y'know? Can't resist. Spice it up a little with that witch costume, and I'm just... gone. 2) Tracer. Leggy brunette with short hair, and an idealist t...

Re: BriarThrone Reviews: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

Except that he wasn't. Nothing about the character we saw Mark Hamill playing was authentically Luke Skywalker, which Hamill openly and publicly declared. They needed to shove the fall of Ben Solo and Luke's retreat to Yoda-like hermitage into the script, so we get this awful mess of a backstory th...

Re: BriarThrone Reviews: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

I think a lot of the fan anger is directed at that bit, actually. Where the guy who is literally Christ the Redeemer, who found the good in a psychotic mass murderer, finds out that his nephew picked up a few naughty ideas from a bad guy and is instantly overcome by his ancestral love of playing wi...

Re: BriarThrone Reviews: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

I'm not bothered by Luke's BSOD because, as others have pointed out, most of the powerful Jedi have reacted to grand mistakes by shutting down and moving somewhere remote. I'm not bothered by Kylo Ren and Rey's power levels and feats because the former was being tutored by someone in the ways of th...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Macbeth! The Banshee! Odin! Oberon! Taserface!)

Re: Demona and Evil The Sunk Cost Fallacy is deeply, deeply ingrained into the human psyche, and motivates way more of our behavior than anyone would really care to admit. It doesn't help that often there are major choices in life that shape a lot of your habits and your socialization. If you start ...

Re: BriarThrone Reviews: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

For all the movie's flaws (and there are a bunch, don't get me wrong), it can't possibly be worse than the one that actually contained dialogue like "I hate SAND" :). At least that was an attempt at creating some character-building dialogue, which we don't get much at all of in the new movies. I me...

Re: BriarThrone Reviews: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

I saw a video yesterday that presented what I found to be a useful dichotomy: a movie can be enjoyable and it can be good, but the two are not the same. I said "meh" at first because there were some enjoyable moments, which have more power with novelty. There was just nothing of good, enduring quali...

Re: J-Mart: Sandman, Mysterio, Paste-Pot Pete

I love how gadget villains jump to "I could totally commit crimes with this!" instead of "hey, this has some interesting commercial applications! I bet a patent would make me tons of money! And that way I never spend a day in prison with the name 'Paste-Pot Pete!'"

Re: BriarThrone Reviews: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

Funny, I actually felt the "Gravitas" was one of the things the movie possessed as a strong point. So much failure; the good guys in such dire straits... Too much cutting the tension with punchlines. They couldn't let tension stand. Not quite the same thing as a depressing arc of suck and failure. ...

Re: The Jabverse: An O.C. Thread (Artemis, Muses, Dawnbringer, Poseidon)

At first I was like, Triton at PL 11? -- the hell? Then I saw "adversary of Athena" and the lightbulb went off. Went back, read more of the background... and he helped raised her but now he's into her? Creep city. That's a lot of levels to an otherwise forgettable god like Triton. Mind you... gods....

Re: Jab's Builds! (Lori Lemaris! Mega Man X! Vile! Mega Man X4! Zero!)

I loved Mega Man X, but for some reason the sequels never even pinged on my radar. I think I read something about a collection coming out for a modern console. I'll have to keep an eye out.

BriarThrone Reviews: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

So, despite the reservations I've had about the franchise for a long time, I thought I'd give The Last Jedi a fair shake, and I thought I'd share my thoughts here. Leading in, the previous movie had failed to thrill me. The Force Awakens was Special Effects Extravaganza, which is a term I use to des...

Re: The Last Jedi, possibly solved

I wish I had an easy answer for that, BriarThrone. Like I said, I liked it a lot but it's definitely a flawed movie and Rian Johnson took a lot of chances. Some of it people are just not going to like. I think a lot of it stems from Luke's portrayal, which is not how he's been portrayed in Episodes...

Re: The Last Jedi, possibly solved

I haven't seen it, but a few of my friends are seriously angry and disappointed. My expectations for the Star Wars franchise are pretty low, so maybe I'll actually be pleasantly surprised instead? Don't know. If anyone here felt that the previous movie was a sloppy disappointment that couldn't manag...
