Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

I first learned about Islam from a first generation Pakistani-American girl I went to high school with. Not too dissimilar to the character Kamala, except, y'know, smart. Very nice girl, too. I learned a lot about the challenges of being raised in a Muslim family while being an American teenage girl...

Re: Woman faces descrimination as police and media refuse to label her crime "rape".

There’s a big difference between putting women and children into the lifeboats first, and letting a woman who tried to strangle a toddler walk with less than a slap on the wrist... The fundamentals are the same. Women are a protected class. On a fundamental level, humanity is wired to protect women...

Re: Jab's Builds! (Power Man! Hardcore! Jessica Jones! Chemistro!)

Hey, look! MinaCream did a non-shittily-drawn version of the new She-Ra, which looks a hundred times better :). https://orig00.deviantart.net/217c/f/2018/200/a/4/sketch_388___she_ra_by_minacream-dcho3rx.jpg This time the character doesn't look like a teenage Fred from Scooby Doo in cheap drag cospl...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

You have a very different definition of “propaganda” than most. Off the top of my head: "An idealized portrayal of a subject that lies about or explicitly avoids examining potential unpleasant aspects." It does occur to me that there is such a thing as negative propaganda too, but in this context.....

Three charges? A prosecutor that can't find ten to twelve serious charges that apply to this series of events isn't even trying. Probably because it's a waste of time when the judge will never properly sentence a woman. She needs to serve the maximum sentence, and the judge needs to serve it too.

Re: Jab's Builds! (Vibraxas! Crusaders! Freedom Ring! BRUTAL!)

My cop friend tells me their vests are "f*cking useless" at stopping knives, and cops actually find that annoying, given how much more likely they are to be stabbed or slashed by something. So that's what I went with for the vests :). Yours aren't bad, though, Beard! Thanks for adding your two bits...

Re: Onyx Path is Not for... Nazis?

Which basically means that the Onyx Path is basically just virtue signalling. Eh, to be fair, in the current political climate, that's "virtue signalling" in the same way as the people who disavowed Communist ties during the McCarthy era. The difference being, of course, that actual Neo-Nazis in th...

Re: What's new with the big two: Marvel and DC Comics discussion thread.

Gail Simone, at a certain point in her career, appears to have decided that her job is not comics writer, but comics celebrity. Writing comics appears to be something she considers a tedious chore between convention appearances and interviews. Her female characters are all basically the same charact...

Re: Interest Thread- The Jabverse

I'm more a fan of biotech than powered armor, most of the time. A lot of armor just makes me feel like "couldn't you put anybody in the suit?" I try not to bother my friends with questions like "What if Tony sat out most missions and instead made power armor for Cap, Hawkeye, and Widow instead? Wou...

Re: Interest Thread- The Jabverse

I'm interested! I'd be the noob that needs coaching, but I'm up for learning how the system actually works.

I love the premise. I'm thinking about an Iron Fist Lite style character, so that shouldn't inconvenience you too much as a GM.

Re: Jab's Builds! (THUNDRA!!!! Swords! Katanas! Nunchucks! Axes!)

For the meteor hammer, Gogo Yubari is a pretty decent go-to for a famous wielder. https://youtu.be/3y8ucwiTe80 Going a few pages back, for staves and nunchaku, their usage in Japanese marital arts are different from what most people think of as the "usual" method. Staves tends to be used a lot like...

Re: Jab's Builds! (THUNDRA!!!! Swords! Katanas! Nunchucks! Axes!)

As evocative as things like the Warhammer 40k chainsword are, chainsaws are tools, not weapons. Being a farm kid, I have ample experience with them. They're highly effective firewood makers, but trying to use one on something that could fight back would be awful. A chainsaw's blade will foul pretty ...
